  2. I would like to lost about 4-5 lbs. I know to do that I need to quit snacking in the evening. as for food not tasting right, with me it becomes what do I want ..... what sounds good. right now that is a tough question to answer. No, I dont want to go out for food, at least not very often
  3. I've never had it. At least, not that I remember.
  4. My sister and I grew up in very poor households where we were ashamed at our poverty compared to our friends and we found the best way to prove ourselves and gain respect was to get good educations, jobs that generated respect, and work hard to earn that respect. Later in our working career and in retirement, we had reached the point where we were fine with our accomplishments - which surpassed almost all our childhood friends - and we reached the point where we didn't worry about respect anymore. I can see that now, where I know people who won't be caught dead in discount stores and call store brands "welfare food" and "welfare clothes." If people we know sees me or my sister coming out of Aldi, etc., the only thing we expect them to say to each other is, "See? That's why he/she has more than a couple pennies to rub together!" So I'm much more content niw with my status and what I've accomplished than I was earlier in life.

  6. Try adding a little cayenne pepper to the oats. I do a few shakes from the jar before cooking the oats.
  7. It wants me to pay $22.75 to read the article, can you copy and paste?

  12. very cool, I could watch the video
  13. Whew, I was wondering if you had a dog in that fight! It would have been pretty weird if you didn't.
  14. It was a surprisingly good movie. I remember going into it and thinking it was probably gonna suck, but once again, I was wrong.
  15. My high school's marching band was the joke of the school - and the county. Later, when teaching high school, our band was nationally ranked and led by a teacher who wrote some of the background music for Hollywood movies. including Hairspray. One day, my sister, BiL and I were in the faculty parking lot after school - we came to the school after visiting our mother who was recovering from ear surgery in a nearby hospital - and the marching band marched through the lot. They were playing John Phillip Sousa's Washington Post March and it sounded fantastic. My sister's mouth fell open in amazement. "There are high school bands that can play like that?" I've thought of her saying that when I try to comprehend why people have an unusual perspective about things in our society. People's perspectives often come from their experiences and often those experiences aren't normal - like my high school's awful band. Later, my sister's son - the one that's now a UAL flight attendant - studied Alto Sax in the Prep Program of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins Univ. (I paid for the lessons) and became lead sax in his middle school and high school band. I don't think my sister would have supported all that if she hadn't been in that parking lot that day and the band hadn't marched through. Here's Ryan (top right) in a multi-state middle school competition in Virginia, where his school's orchestra came in 2nd and the awards were given the next day at Kings Dominion amusement park. Ryan, the same day with his mother and with our engineering cousin Stanley, who had retired from the Navy after serving in Brussels with NATO where he was on the team that refined countries weapon designs so the ammo, etc. from one country fit the weapons from the other countries.
  16. Yup. After I saw the movie, I listened to the whole album that song was from, and...the rest was pretty bad. I read an interview where the band pretty said the same, that the album was a hastily put-together piece of crap partially in response to what the Beatles did on their recent album. They agreed that it mostly just wasn't them, they weren't so into making it.
  17. I am trying to lose weight by not eating anywhere near as much as I used to, but now I am finding that most things that I had been eating regularly just don't taste as good now. Does this mean that I was mostly eating out of pure habit? Maybe it means my body is seeking a lower set point and is saying I don't need so much food, I dunno. Right now I am eating steel cut oatmeal with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, and I added a little honey, walnuts, and blueberries, and it is just falling flat and maybe even tastes a little metallic. What gives?
  18. I had never even heard that song before I saw Cruella. If was perfect for that scene, too, and now it is on my iphone.
  19. I was gonna say just that. They will have to play the undefeated Browns, though, and we know it isn't possible to beat the undefeated Browns in the imaginary superbowl.
  20. If there is one thing the right to lifers have taught me, it is that any one future life is worth far more than the already living billions.
  21. No way, plenty of other stuff I can do something about! I know the sky is falling, though, but all this stuff is for future RG to worry about.
