  2. Hello all, Wanted to make a post a week or so ago but got dragged away. Sorry, I haven't been here for a bit, have missed partaking in the not-so-witty banter. Life's been a bit hectic as of late. Here's a small play-by-play if you're interested: (TL;DR at the bottom) MIL has been visiting us from Turkey since November, she leaves this Friday. It's been nice having her around, as much as any elderly mother can be. She's gotten to teach Lyra a bunch of Turkish and they've done a pretty good job bonding. My freezer is literally bursting with complex Turkish dishes that she prepped en masse. Lyra has been doing pretty OK in 1st grade. We got her tested and we are not surprised she's ADHD. We're working with a therapist specializing in ADHD young children. She, and us, have been improving. She "retired" from competitive gymnastics, much to the sorrow of a few gyms that were courting her last year. Although she was extremely talented, some drama at her gym caused her to have a sour taste for the sport. She switched to figure skating and we took it easy, hoping she wouldn't immediately gravitate to a competitive level. And now, 3 months later she's ranked Excel beginner and has a coach working with her. Oof, my wallet. WoGolden started a new role where she's now doing data quality analysis in big HR systems. She's been in HR for her career but always gravitated to reporting and processes rather than employee-facing roles. She's challenged, but happy. As for myself, work has kept me head down on a few massive projects that are technically awesome, but forum boring. Work has also kinda pissed me off so I'm slowly putting the feelers out for a new position. We'll see what we'll see there. As for sport, I focused last year mostly on distance for running and ran two half marathons. Almost bonked the last one due to a mess up by the organizers not having water at the mile 7/9 station. Lesson learned, bring my hydration belt. Now that the halfathon distances have dried up in my area for the season, I'm gonna focus mostly on 10k. The goal by the end of summer is to break 48 minutes. TL;DR Busy as hell but happy and hale. Missed you guys and will try and make a better effort in dropping and being engaged.

  3. When I was admitted to the hospital a couple weeks back, my eGFR was at 18. The eGFR indicates the percentage of your kidney that is functioning. An eGFR of 18 meant that my kidney was functioning at 18%. That is Stage 4 kidney disease. Stage 5 is at 15% and dialisys is required. My kidney doctor said it had improved to 23% when I was released which is still stage 4. She expected I might see additional improvement but not to expect my kidneys to fuction at much more than 30% I took a renal function panel last week. The tests showed my eGFR is at 89. That put me at the very top of Stage 2 near Stage 1. All she cautioned against was to watch my salt and to drink lotsa water. I am doing cartwheels! 🤸‍♀️

  5. I can honestly say no regerts. I like the lower CG for handling. The 2.5 is more athletic than the 2.0 in the CX5 and I’m getting better gas mileage. I was getting 27 most of the time with the CX5. I’ve been getting around 32 with the CX30. CarPlay is a huge step forward over the old Bluetooth connection. The seats are more supportive. Plus there is just that new car feel and let’s not forget the Soul Red! Really liking it!

  8. A couple of years ago, I saw a video about someone who ran a marathon, one mile each hour for 24 hours. I think he did 3 the first mile, then 1 each other mile. I tried it in 2022 and it was hard, but I did it. Fast forward to yesterday and I gave it another shot. I wasn't ready. I had not exercised much last year. I had Covid in Jan and Dec last year. I think it's still affecting me. I have stepped up my exercising in Feb, but clearly not enough to do 24 miles. I live in a gated community, and currently, the gate is not working; there aren't many houses here yet, so there are not enough roads inside the gate. I took the opportunity to try yesterday. I pooped out at mile 14. Maybe next year.

  9. Youngest son had something go wrong with his foot for an unknown reason. Lots of pain and lots of black and blue around the ankle. Nothing broken on the xray's so soft tissue injury from an unknown cause. Back home with a boot, lots of Advil and keep it elevated. I hope that was #3 cause I don't want any more.

There value on the trade was in the range I thought it should be plus we got 2 k off asking price plus a free hitch. Will pick up the 24 Outback Tuesday.

  12. Want to see what a lunch looks like on my program? Beef stock I made from beef neck bones, 4 oz of picked neck meet, three leaves of Napa cabbage shredded like noodles, one shiitake mushroom, one stalk of celery, 1/4 onion & one bundle of bok choy. I drizzled sriracha on it. I had a two egg omelette with a handful of spinach, a slice of Swiss & a slice of ham for breakfast, 3.5 oz protein. 7.5 oz of protein so far, I’ll load up with dinner to hit 15 oz goal and lots of veg. And no bread, pasta, starchy vegetables. Feeling really good eating this way and my glucose is really down.

  17. My wife has decided it's in the best interest of her cat to put it down after nearly 19 years of life. It was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease almost 4 years ago and we have done everything in our power to maker her last years on the planet as comfortable as she can be. She really has declined the last couple of weeks and particularly the last couple of days. She is like our only child. I'm not enjoying it and WoDottles is taking it hard. Vet is scheduled to show up at 3 p.m. PST to put her down. It's a weird day.

  18. Well you were right. It was about 3 weeks. He initially thought just the one week but he was way off. He just texted us that he passed his driving test and now has a class A CDL with air brake and trailer endorsement and no manual transmission restriction.

  23. I won tickets to the Phoenix Rising soccer home opener Saturday evening. Last weekend was also the Tempe Festival of the Arts. We did a quick Costco run then went up to the Art Festival. It was a beautiful afternoon. We walked among the crowd checking out the artists displays. Some brilliant artists around here! All we bought was some locally made salsas. The crowd had lots of dogs with them. We went to have a drink and listen to a Latin Band on the plaza. As we sat, several dogs came up to me at various times to say hi. I’m not sure what vibe I was giving off, but it was pretty cool! One lady even said her Dutch Shepherd typically didn’t trust men. She could believe he liked me so much! Really made me want a dog again….

  25. That's what my company is paying out on our bonuses this year. Apparently it was another good year for them -- for us -- for me. The month of March in my home is always a good month and it just so happens this year, March is also a three paycheck month. It's like hitting the reset button and filling the pantry. So I got nothing to bitch about for the next couple months until all this wears off. Then I'll prep my resume and hope to mow lawns for Kazoo.

  26. G started his course today. I think it is one week long. He already has his CDL permit and has been driving the trucks with other linemen with him. He is seeking a class A with air brake endorsement, trailers and no manual restriction.

  27. Last year was a miserable year for my modelling hobby. There were many failed kits and some put away to come back to later if ever. I made it my New Years resolution to do better 2 years in a row and last year was a bust. Now in 2024 I finally finished a project and it's ok. As usual, as soon as I'm done I know I could have done better but OK is a good start on the year. I present an M-51 Super Sherman of the Israeli Ariel Sharon "Bison" division that fought in the battles of Um-Katef and Abu-Ageila to take control of the Sinai Peninsula from the Egyptian Army in 1967. The lighting in these pics from my phone doesn't show the dirt and texture well but it is what it is.

  30. Everything looks good. I have been cooking a lot too. Today, chicken soup too. It will be our dinner for the next few days Tomorrow falafel. I am doing so well with that recipe. I found I like the cast iron trick better than the air fryer. I can cook it in a cast iron with very little oil. On my homemade naan bread it's like a falafel soft taco. Shredded carrot, avocado, and shredded lettuce is great with this. Some creamy tzatziki finishes the dish. I am home for a week and I have been making alll kinds of good food. Chicken was a bogo deal so I butchered a couple up, saved the meat for the freezer and cooked down the rest for soup. Bulbs are coming up here. All the effort I have put in is now paying off. I found a bumblebee nest on the property and mason bees or leaf cutters have encased themselves in my mason bee house. It is really a bee haven here. There are so many flowers. I hope for the best for them. Hope you and the family are well.

  32. While have been to the Wetlands many times with and without a local photoclub, today was a first. While 11 of us met, it was the maximum seating for an hour and half tram ride operated by volunteers. Our driver also happened to be a photographer and know of sites outside normal hiking range and where to stop. Afterwards we did our normal dock/loop hike.

  36. You referring to my MIL? She caught the widow two timing her (maybe three timing her) so she ended it with him. Funny in that she was also casually seeing someone else in the side but couldn’t accept the fact that he was too. So that’s done with. She’s been having both mental & physical health issues so isn’t currently dating. WOChrisL has her hands full with her right now. She recently told WOChrisL that she’s moving in with us when her lease is up in Aug. WoChrisL told her no but we also know there may not be other viable options and don’t want to go broke paying her rent in SoCal. Her sons basically avoid her as much as possible as she doesn’t get along with either of their wife so she wants to be near family… She also is asking we rent a house and all get together for her 80’th in June. My family is pretty much on board with it, her two sons are dragging their feet so that will likely fall through. I’m not liking the fact that the financial & care is falling on WOChrisL/us but as much as I can’t stand her, I don’t expect WOChrisL to kick her mom to the curb either…

  41. There is a city road headed to the wife's job when I leave mine. It is a 2-way city street that has a stoplight at a major one way street headed to an expressway entrance ramp. If I turned right at the light I head to the expressway. Strait takes me to the wife's work. So naturally the traffic across from me has to turn left onto the one-way (in front of me) to get to the expressway ramp. The BMW/Tesla/Audi crowd like to sit there across from me at the red light with their left turn signals on and hammer the throttle as soon as the light turns green to jump out in front of the crowd going straight. It usually pisses off whoever is going straight across because they have to jam their brakes to avoid the cars cutting you off. My favorite thing is when I am first at the light. I watch the other light like a hawk and get a good jump just as the light turns green. So far the past 2 weeks I have made 2 BMW's and Lexus jam on their brakes that were trying to cut me off. It makes my heart happy.
