  1. I have a thousand points of fear. They come from every direction. For years, I used to drink them away. It was an easy solution to a complex problem. As I became sober, I worked on peeling away the onion with the help of others. One by one, I worked on those fears with the help from a new faith. Those fears still exist but I try to tackle them differently now. As soon as I recognize I'm in a fearful state, I contact others around me to help me get through it. Loved ones, my girl, my dog and a set of instructions provided from groups that deal with this thing called, "Life". I've become happy, joyous and free for the most part as a result. Couch

  3. Michigan ducks will mate only after they’ve been together for at least 2 years and the union is sanctified in a house of the Lord. They only mate after they find a very private place to share their love and only do it for procreation. Once Michigan ducks mate they are monogamous for life. Michigan ducks are nothing like the Whore Ducks of Texas.

  4. True, but I don't have the deep pockets of Bicycling. This software cost money to purchase, plus a fee every 6 months, then there is a server to rent... I'm not complaining at all, but it has to be paid for somehow. Plus I gave you a way out of the ads, to simply make 100 posts. That's pretty easy for anyone who stays a while. If you don't plan to stay a few ads shouldn't bother you much. And lastly, pop-up ads will never be displayed here. I hate those the most.

  8. I'm with Nate, Beanz. Don't let anyone talk your Tele down! It's classic and killer! Mine is a little more traditional. My brother custom built mine based on an early 60's standard. It's got a nice twang to it!

  11. It's so personal. I know most of the people jockeying for positions. We all laugh about it. Sometimes, it leads to great stories and healthy competition. Like, we built this new section of trail. It wasn't even 1/2 done, but it was flagged out, and there were KOMs and QOMs up there within a week. I almost posted on their Strava "Hey A holes! Big Sky isn't even complete yet!"

  12. In the women's ranking it is not common to have so many people on segments in my area. Heck, you show up at an OBRA sanctioned race and you are lucky to race against 10 women. There just isn't as many people. If I raced at the Sea Otter, sure, lots of women. Small population density in some towns. I noticed the same thing about segments in Helena, MT. Like, 13 women on the leader boards. Still fun to race 13, than none.

  13. Are you calling me out? haha And, Oh, living in a small town does have it's benefits. Small pond. There are a few girls that ride here, and I know most of them. My proudest QOM is 1st out of 13 on a climbing segment at Brown Mountain. I had a fast day. Yay! I do look at where I stack up with overall ranking. Usually, I am mid pack with the guys. Sometimes, I get into the top 1/3 of the guy times. Of course, the leaderboard is shorter than big city leaderboards.

  14. Around here, many fairly well traveled segments usually have a hundred riders or so listed and out of that bunch, a segment might have been ridden 3 or 4 times that number by those riders. It definitely does put things in perspective when a segment in a popular area gets things down to the point that you have 4 or 5 way ties for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. I hold a 4 way tie for a KOM near me.... The rough part is hitting a segment so often, and so close to your best time, that it still doesn't even register as a 2nd or 3rd best time, because you consistently keep hitting the same thing....Veloviewer.com is a great site to see your attempt history on some segments.

  15. I use Strava as a mileage log. Much better than bikejournal, plug in and all data is loaded while producing elevation graphs and all the goodies. I quit paying Bikejournal a couple years back after 6 years. Server is slow and always having problems. Nothing in the way of graphs and terrible loading time. I might use Strava as a motivation tool to pick up my pace but knowing one day on the same course can be different from another due to wind etc, it's not totally accurate. But I'm not in competitive mode right now so it's no biggie. I only get competitive one out of every few years. I wouldn't say Strava is destroying cycling, I say it is destroying riders. I myself have discontinued riding with a couple of partners because they were to concerned about Strava times. One partner asked me to ride with him. He sucked wheel for 35 miles and would not take the front several times that I waved him on. The final 5 miles he sprinted around and dropped me! I caught him 3 miles later. He faded big time and couldn't hold my pace at the time. I rolled up and asked "what was that all about?". He said he was trying to beat me back so he would have a better time on Strava than I on the ride. I hammered him after that! So someone who sucks wheel for 35 miles, won't pull then takes off because he wants to beat me on Strava is a little B!**h Boy and I don't care for ride partners like that. He's asked me a few more times to ride but I pass on the offers. I really don't pay much attention to KOM's either. Some forum members have mentioned having 3 or 4 KOM's. I'd look at their segment links only to find there are only 10-20 riders. Heck, our climb segments have nearly 3000 and many of them are pro riders. Some racing the Amgen Tour of California. I can't even begin to compete for a KOM.

  16. there are plenty of people who will want to cheat themselves.. for whatever reason. I have not even wore my Solvang Double Century tee shirt, because I abandoned 29 miles before the finish. Not many would know, but I know

  17. Yeah, it can be a problem if you can't get the car to AZ. Even with the computers today, it's still an inexact science. Especially when it's a malfunctioning sensor, it's hard to know if the sensor is faulty unless you change it out (or in this case, hooking it to a gas analyzer should have told them that there was no misfire). An experience mech should have thought of the sensor before recommending a $2500 rebuild, though.

  18. I believe that to be true but having videos is just another channel and tool that many viewers need. Some people need to hear and see in order to learn or understand. It's just another channel available to those who choose it. I've taught many people how to use calipers, mics, height gauges etc. If I had given them pictures, half of them would still be sitting there trying to figure them out. If I show them and explain (much like a video), it makes a huge difference to many of them. Not everybody is as educated as you. BTW, It's "too long" not "to long".......see what I mean.

  19. I believe they do here too. But my truck was not running and when it was, all the mechanics I asked said I needed to rebuild the engine. If I had not put faith in the mechanics, I could have fixed it long ago.

  34. You are fortunate that you are able to change the cps without practically disassembling the whole engine. In my car, it's located behind the timing belt, so you have to remove everything from that end of the engine to get at it. An all day job, if not two. I replaced mine at the same time as I did the timing belt, just to be sure I wouldn't have to do that job again.

  36. There's a V6 Nissan engine from back in the 90s which they and other manufacturers used. The knock sensor code was VERY common and it was about $800 to change the knock sensor. The kicker was that the knock sensor code meant that something, like poor gasoline, was causing the engine to knock or ping. In other words, the knock sensor was doing its job and did not need changing. There were a lot of pissed people who paid $800 for nothing. Any good mechanic knows that the OBDII codes are a place to start the troubleshooting and NOT to start pulling apart things based just on the code. BTW: I have a code reader in my car: a ScanGauge II.

  37. I use laundry detergent, the cheap kind, and throw them in the dryer on low. Wash gloves and everything after every ride. my stuff lasts for several seasons and I ride 3000 - 5000 miles a year. If regular laundry soap and putting stuff in the dryer hurt anything, I'd tell you, but after more than 30 years on the road, I can say...just wash that sweaty, stinking crap and throw it in the dryer

  41. If we are talking straps, I would be remiss to fail to mention this one. I found it in Hawaii, when I was stationed there 25 years ago It took a long time to find the perfect axe to wear it, but the 5 string banjo actually fits it like a glove. Its backed by leather and stitched in thread with neon green yarn for a fringe. Its longer than a rope, presumably to accomadate Samoan flatpickers, and the reason it works for a long neck banjo is that you can tie a loop with some string and use that around the end pin to hold the banjo it might be a rig, but it works and there is nothing that can out loud a 5 string banjo even if it has neon green yarn for a fringe
