  3. I think if I had a shop and people came in looking for a "standard hanger" I would keep one of these around to bring out.

  5. I'm back to work at the hobby shop on mondays and tuesdays at the end of the month. All the summer help is gone and the full time RC manager of the RC department works wednesday through sunday. The store leaves the 5 day a week summer hours and returns to the 7 day a week grind. I can use the extra money to cover some of the last 12 months medical bills by rebuilding my cash reserves.

  6. In the last three days I've mixed and poured 80+ bags of concrete and laid 60+ 12" blocks in my dad's basement. Being there's only 5 1/2 feet of head room down there the two lumps from whacking my head are a minimal price to pay for getting the project done. Working like that reminds me i'm not 25 anymore.

  7. I just heard from the Pew Charitable Trust. They had a lot of applicants for the Senior Associate, Compliance position and selected someone with better qualifications. I thanked them for the notice and they said they would keep my resume in case something else came up. I streamlined my resume yesterday and added an objective statement which I think will help. I will try some other opportunities tonight. I am also packing in preparation for a move one day,it pays to be optimistic.

  13. I checked out the post over on the Maintenance & Repair but thought I'd give my $.02 over here... Does you bike have external BB cups and is the frame Al? I've seen this happen not only to my bike but to several others in that the BB cups will creak something fierce, especially after getting wet. The bearings are fine, it's the threads creaking as you apply pressure to the cranks. The fix is some grease on the threads and viola creak is gone.

  16. I went easy on him. He is a newly minted middle school teacher, an avid cyclist and he wants to build a wooden kayak so how bad can he be? I figured he had a rough life growing up in San Mateo so I let them take my truck, 3 kayaks and 3 MTB and all my camping gear. I did trip him with my 12 guage when he came in the house though. He has to know the possibility exists after all.

  18. I was doing my yardwork yesterday. WofTy leaves a pie plate with some dry cat food in it under the house where I park the mower. Every now and then a box turtle will wander up to the pie plate to eat some cat food. If there isn't any, I give him a handful and he munches on that and then heads back into the bushes. He was enjoying his meal as I moved the vehicles out of the way in the driveway. When I looked back towards the house, the turtle is facing toward me with his neck stretched out as far as he could get it, and he was up on his toes to get a better view, of a pine cone that had fallen in the driveway just over the 'speed bump'; it's there to keep water from accumulating under the house and the turtle could barely see over it. From a distance the pine cone looked to me like a smaller turtle, and I guess the box turtle thought so also. He seemed most interested in the pine cone. I picked the pine cone up and said tough luck little one and threw it away. At which point the turtle lowered his head and stalked off to the bushes, I guess to bemoan his loss of a possible mate. Wish I had a picture.

  19. He really wanted to stay. I try not to talk about my faith much, but I felt this week at camp could be one of those life changing events. Wade really had to step out of his comfort zone here to serve these kids. His youth group leader is a stud. One of his brothers is part of dude perfect and the boys really seem to look up to him and relate to him. He is a great mentor to Wade. Wade has always struggled with his faith but he came home from camp and said after having to get through this, he really learned to trust in God and one night, after sitting around and talking to Chase, who stayed by Wade's side in the ER and afterwards, Wade accepted Christ. This is still sinking in for me. As I reread that title of this thread, it's meaning totally transformed.

  21. I'm actually liking some of it. I watched a little cycling, beach volleyball, swimming, diving and gymnastics. We DVR'd it and can skip all of the stories and commercials, that leaves about 15 minutes of actual sporting events.

  22. So, I was in the bike shop the other day. A customer comes in. They need a shifter. They say to one of the shop people, "I need a new shifter for my bike. It is the round ring shifter type." More questions from shop employee. Grip shift quickly ruled out. Customer then says "Its shifts by turning a ring. It's a standard shifter." Someone should ask them if they need any standard tubes with that shifter.

  26. It's nothing I swear.....I'm his mentor and have always been there for him when times were tough. Can't stop myself......he stands there wearing his fireman's waterproof trousers with the suspenders and with that little boy's expression on his face.....and my heart goes out to him. It's just how I am.

He played on the O-line at McDevitt and converted the judo training into a divison I scholarship to play football He works on Wall Street now and can buy and sell me

  31. I totally get what you and DH are saying and that's what makes this particular shop different. For women by women. The weekend group rides are women only but they do allow spouses and significant others on some rides. But it's the welcoming non threatening environment that makes the group successful. I've ridden with numerous clubs & groups and most are pretty casual and welcoming for everyone but they take it to another level. Plus not having the ego's and macho BS seems to put the ladies at ease. My wife really enjoys riding with them but prefers to ride with me as we are more flexible and ride harder/faster so she can get her hammer on.

  34. I posted about it on the maintenance forum but I'm not sure how many people saw it over there. If I'm seated, I hear the creak once per crank cycle, always at the same point, on both the large or small ring. Not a derailleur trim issue. I certainly feared it was something in the crank/BB, until I realized that the creak goes away when I stand on the pedals. So the easy fix is to remove the saddle! The plan is for the mechanic to give it a once-over and then call me to discuss. We'll see what happens. While it's there I'm going to have them take care of a few little things that I could do myself, but what the hell.

  39. Nope, I'm keeping it. People keep telling me for next year, I keep saying there won't be a next year. Well, there will likely be a year next year, it's unlikely going to include me riding up Mt. Washington. I will run up it again. It's the small part of a double. It came with a 24, but for $11 extra dollars he was able to squeeze a 22 on it. I'm really excited now, because I've been really worried.
