  1. I volunteered at one today. I don't know what my fascination with bike racing is lately, but I'm moderately obsessed. And I'm also sunburned now because I'm an idiot.

  3. when local businesses make an effort. This local estate agent (realtor) changes its window display about once a month and it's always interesting and creative. They've won awards.

  4. I had just topped a long, steep hill and was coasting over the top, slowly picking up speed as the hill went from up to down. A guy had pack of Chihuahua's out in the yard, well it was probably parents and a litter, at rate there were a lot of little dogs. As I slowly rolled past they all went into pack mode and attacked. I picked up speed as the hill dropped, the chihuahua's went from a pack to a string, and a rather portly fella brought up the rear, yelling at the dogs to come back.

  7. When living in WI, there was a park a few of liked riding to. There was a huge hill that was paved for walking that went all but 100 feet from the water. Every tuesday we all would do a 25 mile ride to the beach and play the game "No brakes, and farthest gets beer for free at the bar" The hill was a beast to ride up, 800 feet gain in about 1/4 mile with a few slight turns. Everyone that normally goes to that beach knows about us nutty cyclists, and do not campout near the walking trail because of us playing this game. One day I was hauling ass down the hill and beat my record at top speed. I come around the last turn to the short path before hitting the sand dune and basically almost lost control. Two FIBS were lounging out in our area we ride through and I basically bunny hopped over their cooler since it was in my way. Needless to say they freaked out and screamed some profanities in my direction. The guy got up and started heading my direction as the sand was catching my tires and really starting to slow me down. St that point the rest of my group was getting there one by one and almost running this A-hole over. He starts more of a screaming hissy fit at all of us.. We laugh it off as the other beach goers start taking our side and yelling back at him. One beach goer that is always there made the couple pack up their stuff and leave the beach. He was going to walk them to their car to make sure they left the park. The FIB was so pissed that he called the cops. The cops came and talked to us.. Basically the cop blamed him for parking their asses too close to the path, He told us that we were not in the wrong. After that day the city (which is awesome) posted a sign that says "Stay 100ft off the trail on the beach, bicycle will run you over".

  8. Too cold and rainy for a bike ride, so this guy found something else to ride... ...probably because this was bolted to the wall:

  9. This is what I posted as my Mind the Ducks race report. Top woman did 65 miles. Top man did 78. It is always a great event. Too long race report--Thank you to everyone who made it so easy for me to step back into the world of covering distance----Egils Robs, all the volunteers, my dear friends who welcomed me back like I had never been gone. Vicki Waller, who proved that if she could do some laps with broken ribs, I could certainly do some too. Rosemary Z Ball and her crew of Sherpa Angels made it easy for us all. Patty Kaiser who is always game for a crazy adventure was an amazing support. I showed up with the thought in my head I would do one lap and then cheer. I was already a bit sad knowing I would not do the 50K I did at Candlelight 12. What is inside my head is a great challenge. Over the past 12 months I have had countess MRIs, CAT scans, hospital visits and tests. All of them basically said, "yep there is something wrong with you but we can't figure it out." There were days I could barely walk due to joint pain, severe migraines, and high fevers. Two weeks ago, I ended up in the hospital with an orbital abscess that made it appear I had had a stroke. I have since learned that it is pretty durn serious. Got that cleared up with much drama and I was physically present for Mind the Ducks 2017. I was there but all of you got my head there. I am proud of my half marathon yesterday---- and certainly more tired today than anything else I have ever done. Could I have done one more lap?? Maybe but sometimes caution is a wise choice.

  10. I flew to a Portland Oregon to begin my cross country bike trip. Roadfrog was violently opposed because she thought I was abandoning my 15 year old daughter. Random Guy thought I should go because I'd score with all manner of campground women. (I didn't).

  13. Only 15 on the Madone...but I wore the camelbak and spent a lot of time trying my cleats since they changed them (reversed them) for me.... I need to ride more often and more miles...but it was a good ride! Certain muscles are sore..so far the shoulder seems ok.

  16. I came home from work yesterday and I asked if I was cute or something like that (make jokes in posting places below) She gave me a weird look and told me that I am extremely attractive and then question why I asked her this. I had to go through the long story that went like this: At work I was helping a few of the stockers out and a little girl came up to me. She asked me my name and in return I asked her. Since I was crouched down close to her height, She told me I was lucky. I asked her why she said that and in return she whispered to me "Because my mom thinks you are cute". Before I could say anything, I quickly scanned the group of women in the general area and said to point out your mom. As fait would not be with me that day, the little girl giggled and took off running through the store before pointing out her mom... This made me sad! I hope one day they both show back up because I would love to know if she is cute also.

  17. Rainy morning then 8.5 hours at the LBS. crazy busy at one point. We did $25k in sales. Next closest store did $11k. Manager said my name came up at the weekly managers meeting. My numbers on Saturday are on fire. went to a graduation party after work. A couple beers and some smoked brisket and ribs with the usual sides. Good stuff and caught up with some people I hadn't seen in several years.

  22. Put the fat bike away. Walked and jogged another 5 miles this evening. Garmin says I burned over 4500 calories today. I ate about 2000. Lost 16 lbs in the last 4 weeks. Soon there will be nothing left. Now down to 177. Dr wants me under 160.

  23. 52.5 miles in a little over 3 hours. Perfect weather. Let me say that again. Perfect weather. The first 25 miles were as flat as can be. The last 27 miles were very hilly. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1731356859

  25. Sometimes you go simply because it's expected. Womaxx loves these things. I have noticed though that the crowds are too large and loud. The food, although all right, has no signature event that would compel you to go back on a regular evening. The wait staff is far too busy to give you the proper attention, to the point that you don't want to leave an extra tip. On the other hand, where else can you have a bit of scrambled egg next to some shrimp mixed with Mediterranean vegitables, next to an Italian quiche adjacent to a spoonful of sausage and peppers topped by a piece of swordfish. The blend of tastes is something you usually don't get to try. Ah well, at least I know that on Fathers Day we will be eating on the dock of a burger place down on the shore.

  28. My husband said it is just the tubing. He said he might just chop it and re-assemble. It's the flex tubing that has separated from itself on the handheld suction wand. That man can fix anything. I need to stop panicking. It seems it will be a simple fix now.

  33. When the subject of our motorcycles comes up, our daughter in law (a registered nurse) pulls no punches. The grizzly tales of road rash and organ donors start. And dont get me started when people find out we have snowmobiles. "Why would any sane person spend time outside in the winter on purpose?"

  36. I managed to reset my fitbit...actually opened a new account for it...It gave me credit for 39 flights of stairs (on my ride)...then I did laundry and ran up to Margaret's...LOL 59 flights of steps. It catches the difference in altitude when riding but It doesn't add much in the way of steps...I think I had 3000 when I finished the ride..and I did walk across a couple of intersections... Anyway ended up with over 10,000 steps today...I should sleep well
