  3. 27 miles, club tuesday night ride. Horrific winds, then rain for the last 6 miles. I did get to ride behind bike club chick I told her it was nice riding behind her, and she said "I bet it was"

  4. Haha, about fifteen miles on the road bike. Wholly cow does that thing handle different than my touring bike. I'm going to switch out the road pedals and put some SPDs on there with pedal spacers. I've had that road bike on the trainer for five years and never noticed how different it handled. My road shoes were always marginally tight on my feet but they felt horrible today. I have lots of mountain bike shoes with SPD cleats that fit me well. I think after a few changes I will like the road bike again. The new tires are nice. I'll give my new seat a few more miles but it's probably going to be switched out. I had a wicked headwind for part of the ride and the aero bars really seemed to make a difference. I rode just long enough to get helmet hair. Edit: I just noticed in this picture you can see the lump on my left shoulder from all the tendons that pulled loose on the crash this spring. I still find it hard to believe they are going to leave it like that.

  8. 3.5 miles average pace.17 minutes per mile 7357 steps puts me just shy of 13,000 for the day...I need more days like this! However...I have a blister from pushing the pace...a common issue for me when I start working this kind of pace.

  11. As dry as that is, it looks like straw and not hay, plus what would be the point in spreading hay in a pasture full of green grass to eat. So I have no clue what they are doing or why they are doing it, but the doggie sure is having fun. We always go this route instead of throwing it everywhere and making a mess.

  17. 32 @ 18.7 temp had dropped to 93 by the start of the ride. Just enough of a wind that a few riders overheated and turned back early. Average would have been closer to 20, but we had to re-route when a stopped train blocked our usual path near the end of the ride.

  18. Happy Wednesday! Spectacular weather here. Umm LongJohn, unless you're terminology is different in PA, I would remind you she's not actually riding in that picture, she's pushing her bike. (Something I did many, many times on my cross country trip 8 years ago.)

  24. I think people like to hear about the journey, what it takes, how it goes, what went right, what went wrong, how coaching has helped, etc. This is a once a year thing (or twice if you actually ride a bike up), and is a big-ass challenge that I think most of us would like to have a go at at some point, or at least to think we would have done it in a past life. Hearing about what you do and the details you post forge a connection that we all share in, so there is that to consider. I say share away, people can always go to a different post if that isn't their cup of tea. Plus, we get to razz you about if you post, but miss out if you don't.

  28. Looks like spotty showers coming up...Hope I can get a little walk in...nothing big today due to the hot spot on my foot..by Thursday or Friday I should be good to go.. Hate this weather pattern with the showers moving in for the weekend....that is my best ride time option!!

  31. Listening to The Tubes Radio on Pandora. Very eclectic mix of 70s and 80s pop/punk stuff. Started with The Tubes Tip of My Tongue, had some Cars, Cheap Trick and just played Ballroom Blitz by Sweet. Sweet made my think of Matthew Sweet, so I just changed channels to Matthew Sweet Radio.

  32. Yeah, both of mine would occasionally flip out like this, for no reason. Once in a while there would be fruit flies in the house and The Idiot Cat would chase them. ("Oh, look - the Fruit Loop is chasing Fruit Flies"). If you were a few feet away, you couldn't see the fruit fly and it looked pretty random. But, every so often you could tell they were getting alien transmissions when the ears went back and the eyes got wide - you knew shit was about to go down.

  35. They are so sad, especially when it seems like the person's life ended prematurely. However, I remember reading an essay called "Always Go to the Funeral" (link below) which expressed in words both the discomfort and sometimes the importance of attending. I know my Mom can still recall the people who showed up to her Mother's wake or funeral decades ago. You did a good thing, Petite, even if it was hard. http://thisibelieve.org/essay/8/

  39. This is it in a nutshell. Please post away, SW. I was just poking you with a stick. That is what we do here, or at least that was what we used to do here before everyone got so sensitive and all. Your correct response to this thread should have been a deluge of Mt Washington threads and posts.
