As told by Bailey the Airedale--- he is a friend of Lindy's and his human family members are friends of mine too! Michelle is their lovely, lovely daughter who just graduated college, secured a job, and her first apartment. She has renters insurance but it doesn't cover flooding. "Dad made it within a few blocks of her apt. Then he started swimmin'. The water he thought was about 7 feet but he wasn't going under to see. He is 6'3" and couldn't touch the bottom. Two strangers in a canoe saw him swimmin' an' paddled along side of him thinkin' he needed rescuin'. He told them about M'shelle an' where she was. They said for him to hop in, & "let's go get her!". An' they did. She heard 'em hollarin' at her window. An' she had everythin' already packed, 'cause dad had called her before he started his swim. They weren't that far from her roof line, so she was a...ble to lower everythin' she had packed...an' Jupiter in his crate down to them. Then she simply slid down to them an' the canoe. It was a small canoe..so, the two guys got out an' wadded beside the canoe that has holdin' dad, M'shelle an' Jupiter. She said area was full of people needin' rescuein'...an' there were other people w/small boats pickin' people up. Then dad an' M'shelle headed home......it took 'em a long time because of all the roads closed due to high water....but they made it. Both of 'em have had showers an' dry clothes...an' more importantly....food. Lexie an' I have been banned from the stairs.....an' Jupiter has taken over my tower. We're not too happy w/that...but I guess we're have to compromise...'cause our M'shelle is safe an' home! We want to thank everybody for their prayers an' tryin' to help. Mom doesn't believe in coincidences...."circumstance" is caused by energy, prayer, a "plan" ......it's all a force....an' we believe you all helped with that. An' on a side note....all the turmoil an' conflict that's been in the news media....well, from first hand experience....it's not happenin' down here in Texas.....all you have to do is witness some of the people from all walks of life comin' from all over....to help...just because they are people...an' like mom says, "all walk the same earth". First picture was Sunday afternoon when things looked pretty good and there was minimal risk. Second picture Michelle took as she was floating by in the canoe that rescued her. Same car, brand new to go with her first real job. Most of the water seems to have come from having to let water out of the levy to save the dam. So very sad.4 points

My work is set for this winter in the secret lab as I just finished ordering my new truck. Here you go wheels. Not an all out race truck but a combination race truck rock crawler. It's an Axial brand Yeti Score kit which with full options will have lights, 2 speed transmission and various mod parts like chassis skid plates. It's a 4 link rear, independent front suspension 4wd sort of scale version of the Score Trophy trucks used for Baja racing. Wut? you expected a full size one?3 points

16.8@13.1. Crushed limestone converted rail to trail. The State Fair traffic patterns make our local group rides a little sketchy. Some of us went about 25 miles east to check out a new trail we heard about. Trail is still new enough that my non suspension MTB was about the perfect ride! Beautiful weather and my favorites from our cycling group. A very fun night. Wish I had photos to share.3 points

Quad Espresso post ride. donating blood at 10:00 to the Red Cross. Blood drive at work today. completed paperwork for a volunteer opportunity work has with a local elementary school. Reading to kindergarteners every other Friday morning. I think this will be fun. more roast chicken with mango habanero salsa for lunch.2 points

Nancy, my cousin in Montgomery, has been sleeping in the barn. They have had much rain but so far she only has a little water in the barn. She doubled up a couple horses in drier stalls and is working to channel water away. She feels very lucky and blessed. She is offering space to others in worse condition and was able to help move some horses to safer locations. She is a strong, confident woman but I still worry.2 points

I once did a track stand at the stop sign at the guard booth, just to be a wiseass. The lady inside laughed and I told her I was going to wear my parking pass on my helmet next time.2 points

I once had a school bus driver laughing out loud when I stopped in the approaching lane on my bike. Wut? Aren't we supposed to have the rights and responsibilities of all the other vehicles on the road?2 points

Many of you are aware that I have volunteered at Chain Reaction Bicycle Project. CRBP is a non-profit bike shop that repairs and sells donated bikes. Bikes are sold for a small amount or if the purchaser is unable to pay they can be worked off. Most of the cost of running CRBP comes from donations. We are having a fundraiser for the month of September. I'm offering to match donations up to the $100 goal that I have set so i I get friends to donate and reach the $100 it will cost me another 100 to match it. Link to fund raising page.1 point

Of water has been dumped on Texas. That is an amazing figure. I am sure they are the inferior US gallon but it is still a lot of water.1 point

No we weren't poor and neither was my father. My father was a pharmacist, having gotten an education instead of the farm and my mother a teacher. I was middle-class, my father's people were big farmers by Irish standards, my mother was a townie (from a rural town) who did well in school, qualified as a teacher, travelled in Europe before WWII (including Germany) and counted every penny. I was very fortunate.1 point

nice ride LJ. I got nothing. Rained here all day. I went by Wegmans for eggs, chips and mangoes and saw that the Hatch chile peppers were in. I picked up a pound of those to blister, peel and freeze. I made LGBT sammiches for dinner (Ambrosia stopped by). Lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato make a good sammich. After Ambrosia left, I made more mango habanero salsa. The Hatch chiles are in the freezer and my feet are up waiting for laundry.1 point
