  1. I thought it was going to be an easy thing to do but it wasn't. I have a ton of respect for the manager I called yesterday. His character inspires me; he's a really good man. But, he doesn't run the company. He doesn't make staffing decisions and I'm certain he has a directive to bleed out the last of the blood of every employee (this might sound dramatic but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true). I have three co-workers I adore and love; which also made this decision to leave a hard one. Anyway, I'm moving on to a place where my schedule allows me to go back to school. The new company knows a new degree is my final goal. I'll work a night shift and eventually move to a 1st shift with the agreement I can take day classes as needed. From everything I've heard from the inside, you generally work 40 hours a week; something I have not done in a very very very long time. I generally work 50 to70 hours a week, depending on the week (most weeks lately have been around 70). The new job is more money and I'm hoping to use the extra cash to eventually buy Ming a house and pay for school out of pocket. Sorry if this is a boring post but this is the only place I have to write this stuff down in a public forum. Facebook isn't an option for things like this. Thanks for reading my drivel. Couch

  2. Took Dad to dialysis then went to the hospital. Mom is thinking and speaking much more clearly. She is still a little shaky and weak when she walks. Dr thinks viral meningitis. They are doing EEG and another MRI today to be sure. They will send her home tonight or tomorrow depending on when she can get her legs back under her. Thank you everyone for the thoughts, prayers and vibes!

  11. Yes, New Scotland. I must say that dinner at Lombardo's was one of the very best meals that I have ever had anywhere...period. As good as many meals I had in Italy. You can just see the ghosts of mobsters and politicians in there in the 20's. Of course tonight they place had plenty of mobster politicians in the flesh. I love that they have not done one thing to update it.

  12. Three hour workout at the fitness and aquatics center. The swim went well, I was winding down by the time I got to the run. Did two miles on the dreadmill at about a ten minute pace.

  13. Maybe about 1/2 mile out and back through fresh snow with the snowshoes. And I did it without my knee brace! Scary, but it worked out ok! And the woodland creatures got seeds and stuff.

  15. I am way the hell relieved. Doing sales with an electronic component distributor. Nice office, and I liked everybody I met with. They seemed like very decent people, straight shooters, which was nice. The interview lasted three hours, btw, so I figured they liked me lots. Here is the view from the office: They need to get guys outside to wash the windows.

  17. The CEO of USA Gymnastics has already resigned over this. The new CEO was the one who said the NDA wouldn't be enforced if Mckayla Maroney wanted to give a victim statement, but only after Chrissy Teigen offered to pay the fine. It's sad to see so many of the top gymnasts come forward as victims and you know they are only the tip of the iceberg. MSU also has to examine its internal policies and why the early investigations found in Nasser's favor.

  18. NO, not NJ! I will be in NYC, the Paris of New York. Of course a visit would be mandatory! We can go to Grant's tomb and make Cheese jealous, unless he joins us.

  21. I just got off a meeting with one of my coworkers. Let's call him buck20. Since I'm on call, he told me I had to do some of his work that should be scheduled during the week. I told him 'no' and explained the policy. I have roughly 20 hours of work scheduled this weekend. I'm just not going to do it. I'm sure management will call me soon. I'll tell them I no longer have a desire to do his work. He often pawns off work to other co-workers and he makes a considerable amount more than the rest of our team. It's time he starts earning his keep. DK

  25. Oh...I also commented on the "challenge" of putting a 25lb weight on my hips for the hip thrusts....I got better or the 2 weeks...but the first 2 or 3 times it was comical....he showed me how he did it....he said when he does them he uses 75lb.... I like how it is going...much better than what I would get at Planet Fitness...

  34. ...I'm happy for you. One of the happiest days of my life was the day I gave my two weeks notice at the Social Security Administration. That one worked out pretty well for me, personally. And the agency itself has continued in a downward slide as I envisioned at the time. Job loyalty is one thing. Working damage control on the Titanic is quite another. I can still recall how draining it was to work for those people.

  41. ...Australia. It's called the Sidney Oprah house. Obviously, she married some guy named Sidney. Anyway, you can see that Oprah and Sidney paid close attention to the very steep roof line, such that snow cannot accumulate. This is odd, however, as the temperature at the house, in the height of winter (2 weeks ago) was 117 degrees. Snow cannot accumulate at that temperature. Oprah shows the house to anyone who is interested. So I stopped by. As far as I can tell, there isn't a kitchen in the place...which really isn't a surprise since someone with as much money as Oprah probably eats out all the time.
