  1. Just had a phone interview, was supposed to be a screening interview with the hiring manager so she could decide who she wants to bring in for an in-person interview with the entire team. By the end of the call we were discussing when I can come in and she wants to do it quickly. At the start of call she was talking about getting back to me in a week or so to setup an in-person. Best part, this is the first interview I've had for a job I actually want. Keep your fingers crossed.

  3. Over the last couple of months, people have really been judgy with me about my diet and choice to take meds. Not sure what is in the air, but I've had several occurrences here and there of people trying to be "helpful." What they should realize is that everyone's life is to be lead their own way. A few weeks back I lashed out @Square Wheels in a pharmaceutical thread. It was wrongly directed. I am sorry that I lashed out, but it was like that last additional straw for my week. I'm sorry. That wasn't nice. When I was diagnosed with MS, I did a ton of research into diet, meds, natural remedies, etc. I did not blindly just start taking meds. It was a thoughtful choice to go on disease modifying behavior. My diet was decent but not great, before diagnosis. I did change my life and diet tremendously. After the denial and anger phase, my fighter mentality took over. I did my research. I chose the best option for me. Recently, I have had several people try to "help" me, by suggesting that I change my diet. There are lots of different diets. Many of them are even contradictory of each other. Paleo, Vegan, Vegetarian, the Swank diet, and others. From what I am studied on the matter, these diets work on some but not others. There is no magic bullet for this disease. Right before I had lashed out at SW in a pharma thread, this came on the heels of two very rude and inconsiderate comments about diet to me. One person was pushing vegan to me. Another one was pushing Paleo. I swear there was something in the air, recently. The comments that were made really angered me. One person suggested that I go vegan. I pushed back and basically said that I was not interested in that. In a snotty way they said "it's your choice to be well or not." Another person was pushing Paleo on me. I explained that I did not agree completely with that diet and that really strict diets cause me stress. Stress is worse for me than cheating on a diet here and there. The Paleo person said to me "Meds are always easier than changing your diet." Both of these comments were so rude, invalidating and insulting. They said these things, as if I don't care about my health, when the opposite is actually truth. I care a great deal. Not to mention the fact that I have not had a major attack in over ten years with my current plan and actions. I looked in to nature remedies as well. I've seen a naturopath, a chiropracter, an acupuncturist and the like. The studies I have seen have mixed reviews. It works for some and not others. Studies come up short with this disease. So much is unknown. I don't love the idea of being on meds. I do it, because there is much to lose to not go this route. The meds seem to work for me. My doctor has seen people go off meds and some of the results were very sad stories. He tells me I am doing great and not to change a thing. There is also lots of snake oil out there. People try and push things, maybe to sell you or in a way they want to help. I have wasted so much cash on snake oil. These days I am very skeptical, when people try to sell me on things like that. Three months ago an aquaintance tried to push this machine on me that costs thousands of dollars that works with electro magnetic or something. I read about it and it made no sense at all to me. It will heal you and you can get off meds they said. <eye roll> Sorry, I just had to get this off my chest and give some background about why I may have lashed out the way I did. It really had a lot to do with timing.

  6. tl:dr Pick up trash the longer version started a construction clean up service 28 years ago. First 2 years I drove a truck to pay the bills. It was originally just to pick up some vacay money. After 2 years I figured out I could make a business of it. So I quit the night job .....and broke my ankle the first week after quitting. Was able to grow the business to the largest in the area. Used to get a few requests to talk at conferences and stuff. Currently 11 trucks and about 13-14 on payroll. It's been fun and I have learned a lot. I love being around construction people. They are mostly can do people. And mostly positive. Currently shopping the company to a few select people to purchase. I've had a good run

  8. Retired after 42 years in trust banking. I now spend time volunteering - Capital Development Committee of the local public library, treasurer of the local arts foundation, on the board of an organization that provides services to folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities and several roles in my church - and doing a bunch of outdoor stuff. I also occasionally help out a friend who builds custom furniture and cabinets. Always wanted a wood shop in my home but never had one. This occasional side job gives me the opportunity to do some of that stuff.

  12. ...do you ever wonder how it will play out ? Which of your life's bad dates will first out you on social media ? Which will then lead to a pile on in the pages of the Greenville Weekly, and accusations of impropriety from women you have no recollection of ever meeting, let alone dating. Then, a few months down the road, a story by Stormy Daniels about your seedy liaison during her recent trip to Greenville, and the huge sum your attorney settled on her to keep the whole thing quiet from Mom Cheese and the family. But it all starts with that first accusation. Which one will it be ?

  14. No, try the blue diet. Everyone knows blue is faster... On the serious side, you know your own body better than anyone else. Do what you know works for you and ignore the naysayers.

  15. I don't mean well. I am selfish and self centered - honest. If I find something that I think is good and works, I "suggest" everyone try it. I don't take into consideration what others may be suffering with and may have already tried to alleviate their suffering. I am very judgy, I should not be, but like most, I am human and have faults. In all honesty, I sincerely apologize for any offense.

  16. Please don't folks. I have been hit by cars four times in my cycling career and the last (and most damaging) was due to a distracted driver. Driving requires full attention. We do it every day so we dismiss the that fact. Leave the texting and talking while driving to those who receive training to do so, like police and fire responders.

  17. ...kid, people in general are just dreadfully stupid about poorly researched and mysterious human illnesses. It's just a fact of life as we know it, and you need to work on letting it go. I say this as a person once laid flat in my early 50's for approximately five years by an illness that was variously diagnosed as CFIDS, asthma, psychological illness, and "beats me I can't help you." So if you've got a doctor and a program that seems to be working, you need be neither angry nor apologetic. You quickly figure out that your illness is your illness, and forgive the trespasses of the ignoramuses who "read something on the internet". They mean well. Also, a big plus one on the Vegan thing. Paleo-vegan maybe, with some exceptions for essential food groups like bacon.

  18. I work in a lame soap opera drama. Yesterday I took a personal day. When I came in this morning they were all waiting for me. "What have you been telling the customers?" Apparently a couple of customers called asking for me, when they found out I wasn't there, they said something to the effect that I must have finally got smart and found another job. LOL, awesome! Wish I thought of that myself.

  21. I showed 2 videos. One from the person I got my sled kit from. 7 minute video on how to train a dog to pull a sled. This one was used to answer the question "how do you train a sled dog?" The other was a 2 minute video of racing in Alaska. Also when the videos weren't on the screen this picture of my first and second grade granddaughters was there.

  24. And you do excellent work-- I am a satisfied customer who gets no compensation for this endorsement. I am a school superintendent who never likes to call a snow day. Basically, I try to stay out of the way of the people who do the work that matters. Oh, and I make sure they have the things they need. I wanted to hire Hillary as a principal and I think that is why he left.

  30. So today was gym day after work so I made a quick & easy dinner some might call meatless chilli: Can of kidney beans, white beans, garbanzo beans, chili beans and black eyed peas, can of chopped tomatoes, small can of green chillies, 3 packages McCormicks chilli seasoning and 1/2 an onion chopped. Crooked on low and then left for work. Came home to a tasty meatless dinner after the gym.
