  2. G raced in Indy yesterday. Course was closed, in a state park. He got lucky and caught some dry weather. It was a lot warmer than what he was used to racing in. He hung with the pack (all juniors from 9-16) for about 3 laps. (This is about 2.5 laps longer than normal). He and another rider got spit out the back of the pack. They worked together to stay close to the pack but G was doing more of the work than I would have liked. They pulled through with about 4 laps to go and the kid attached G. He quickly caught onto the kid’s wheel. Then the kid sat up and grabbed his leg (cramp?). G recognized this and immediately countered. Dropping the kid instantly. G rode the last 4 solo pushing the whole way. We thought G was the only one from our team in the 13-14 AG but George showed up at the last min. Even though George is 11, he raced 13-14 because no one else was registered in the 11-12. George finished slightly ahead of G. He managed to stay in the pack longer but he got spit out as well and had to finish solo like Griffin. Griffin managed a 7th overall in the juniors and a second place in the 13-14 AG. It was the best racing I’ve seen him do yet.

  4. Not quite sure what happened there, but at least it' a nice song. Here's the post. Working with this guy today, always showing off his strength. At lunch we were both gripping about being sore. He gave me that earnest look such people have, and told me that 50 was taking a toll on him I told him that 50 wasn't so bad. At 60 things started to get tough. His eyes actually came alive, he looked at me and asked ' how old are you?' '62' 'damn, I didn't think you were that old' I guess it's a compliment. And it shut him up.

  7. Church was fun today. I was planning on partnering with my 16 year old Autism boy but they were short handed and ask me to partner with Houston a four year old Autism boy instead. He’s a sweet kid’ nonverbal as well I had him in the regular four year old class and chapel. He did well, I made a new friend today.

  8. Our yard was birdie central today. We had lovebirds, quail, doves, finches. grackles, sparrows, flycatchers, curve-billed thrashers, starlings, and a few others I haven't identified yet. They emptied the feeder in less than a day.

  10. The wife told me she wanted the address numbers and door to be repainted. Guess she is finding more things for me to do to make the house more ours then the last residents that lived here. The fence is finally up and done.. about 10k later and more then I wanted to spend.. I do have to say it makes a great improvement over the 6foot fence that was being held together with duct tape and wratchet straps. Here are a few pics so you can marvel at it's beauty. and now for the front door. The wife wanted a color like no one on the street had, so she picked teal.. (no y'all know my address. I expect lots of wonderful gifts!)

  17. A local church has a 25 year history of sponsoring a Concert Series. Last evening was the chamber music ensemble of the Orlando Philharmonic playing Mozart and Dvorak, with the conductor also the pianist, typical of Mozart. The church gives the local photo club phenomenal access as we support their program. The last photo from the balcony shows an empty chair in the isle, reserved for the photographer...which is where I sat for the Mozart portion. Not my normal genre of photography, but excellent practice. While I processed 71 photos, here is a small sampling. Enjoy.

  19. Sometimes we hear the dogs and we look out the window and see them going with their nose to the ground on the trail and then we look up ahead and see the bunny putting down more tracks for them to smell. He seems like he’s in on the game.

  32. Making chocolate even better... Yesterday, one of those 'click bait' articles on losing belly fat, chocolate was one of the noted foods supporting loss of fat. It did have to be dark chocolate, 70% or higher. That is consistent with what I have noticed over the years and jokingly referred to as my "Swiss Chocolate Diet". I would consistently lose 10 lbs (regained later in the US) every time during my 2 week visits. Granted, I did walk everywhere due to not having a car, but still. I have tried to replicate it here in the States, periodically getting the dark German chocolate (Mosher) from Aldi.

  36. ...everyone I meet here is the heart and soul of kindness and civility. Why, just yesterday in the gym steam room I pointed out to some kid that wearing street shoes in there was a bad deal and against the rules for health code reasons. I point to the clearly printed sign on the door which says exactly that. It's not even an entire sentence in English, so it's not hard to read it. So he gives me lip, and points to my shower shoes. I ask him, "Do you want me to report it ?" And then he says, "Yes, why don't you just do that !" So I go out, tell the manager what's going on, go back in, sit down, and wait three minutes for the manager to show up and throw him out. Here's the thing, on his way out the door, he says to me, "I hope you enjoyed that. I was just having a nice steam. But you had to be a jerk about it." I think it must be you.

  38. I got into running because it was the only way to take the starch out of the damned dog. Ten years later, he’s too old to run anymore, and I’m still going. I’ve never developed a love for it, like I have cycling, it’s more of a grudging respect. I can’t deny it’s positive impact on my cycling and it’s a lot easier to pack a good workout into a half hour/hour by running, rather than riding. I guess I’ve never found that “zen” state that so many claim to find when running -even though I’ve run as far as 15 miles. It’s boring, it takes forever to actually get anywhere and there is no “fun” factor - where’s the running equivalent of riding wheelies, just for shit & giggles? If you’re thinking of trying it, I’d suggest a Couch-to-5k type thing. It’s supposed to take you from being a non runner to running a 5k in 9 weeks. While you have a good base of fitness from cycling and some of it crosses over, some doesn’t, so it’s best to ramp up slowly. If time is crunched, I run. If I have more time, screw that running shit.
