  1. Bad news... TV went out. Good news... TV went out. 70" of 4k splendor with a sound bar is on it's way to our house.

  3. Whew! Not too bad. Only a few “patrons” and the disinterested employees kept their distance. I survived the experience, only to almost not survive the ride home. “Someone” dropped a bomb in the truck while he was waiting in the parking lot.

  4. I have worked with SAE threads - coarse, fine, extra fine, left hand.....pipe threads.....metric threads....hell, I even made left hand pipe threads once. I have never used or seen a #12-24 thread. Guess what size the good folks at Weber grills use to hold their burner tubes in place? ? Of course I butchered the heads up a bit getting them out - they’ve been in the grill through thousands of heat/cool cycles. Of course Blowes has no #12 screws whatsoever. Well, they’re 1/4-20 now. ?

  5. Mainly just lack of traffic for me. I tried bike forums briefly but felt lost in the crowd there. This is like Cheers. Yes, I am old.

  8. Weird weekend. I plan to squeeze in at least 2-3 hrs. per day, of cycling and pure outdoors. Then rest of time I have to focus on a written assignment as part of a job competition for a job I applied awhile ago. It's all part of shortlisting candidates. So It will be probably something that is a report..given the nature of the job ad. But at least I'm going to pancakes on Bike to Work Day tomorrow in celebration, then off to bike to Italian deli for lunch and shopping before returning to....this assignment which right now I have no clue what it will be until tomorrow when I get home. Thankfully a day off for me. I'll be lucky I cycle a total of 80 km. next 3 days.. Normally it could be over 100 kms over same time period.

  12. I was lucky to be able to reuse my screws for the Weber a couple of weeks ago. While I was bundling up all the packing material for the trash a shiny plastic ziploc bag fell out with new screws.

  13. Today is a day off to do laundry and house work. I'll post a couple of pics of yesterday's ride however. The first obligatory pic of the bike and another of the Jeremy River with a good spring water flow.

  17. Take care of critters, take photos at high school track meet on Saturday, watch a bit of the Kentucky Derby, and attend a 65th wedding anniversary celebration for some folks in the evening. On Sunday, we'll take care of critters, but not sure about other activities, like going south and/or going east to check out a different rookery.

  18. 10 on the bike, still slow but faster than the last two days. This was my first ride on the gravel Airline Trail in almost a year. The day began with a 2 mile walk. I think the 10 was a bit of an over reach for my 3rd day back. I was really struggling when I got back to the trail head. It's like preseason camp and two a days. It hurts like hell but you get back into shape eventually.

  19. I went to vocational training (carpentry) my Junior and Senior year. When we got back to school, the guidance counselor and ASSistant principal got on the bus. They let everyone except the back two rows off. Then they started going off on us about smoking on the bus. They couldn’t have been more wrong if they tried. None of the eight of us they kept on, smoked. Then they let the other seven guys go and started in on me about smoking weed on the bus. Again, completely wrong. They kept saying “Well, we’re going to find out who it is...” Through clenched teeth I said “Good! And when you do, I expect an apology!” Worst part is, the bus driver was right behind them going “....its not him....”. I was so angry when I got off the bus, I think I was bleeding from my eyeballs. Word must have gotten around the school that if I found out who ratted me out, I was going to kill them. Apparently whoever the rat(s) were (I think I know) went and set the story straight because the guidance counselor kissed my ass for the rest of the school year. I egged his house anyway.

  22. I got a late start but rolled out before 9:00. Temp was in the low 30s but warmed to mid 50s. I saw elk, bison, sandhill cranes, and deer. Around mile 40 I saw about a dozen cars on the shoulder so I slowed my roll. There she was. 399 and two cubs about 50 yards off the road and moving. I took a couple of quick pics and rolled on. I stopped for lunch not long after, then decided to push on. At mile 53 I was a the north end of the park at John D. Rockefeller Memorial highway. Just 8 miles south of Yellowstone. If I went for it, I'd be over 120 for the ride and late getting home. So I turned around and headed for home. Near Pilgrim creek, I saw at least 30 cars on the shoulder. Lots of big lenses on those cameras, rangers, orange cones, and there she was again. This time about a quarter of a mile away. 399 and her cubs. My route: I started at the green mark at the bottom of the map. I rode to the red mark at the top. Turned around and rode back. On the way north, I took the road on the left along the lakes. On the way south, I took the road on the right further away from the lakes.

  31. Bought Lad a sack of dog food in WalMart yesterday. Decided it was time, as the dog food in the trash can container was getting so low, that I was afraid my wife might fall in when filling his container and not be able to get out on her on. Puppy Chow is $5 cheaper at WalMart than at the grocery store across the street. I thought of you folks yesterday when waiting in line to check out with my one item. I may start a new thread about my 'eventful' trip to town yesterday.

  34. Yes. That's a WSB from Nashbar that I grabbed up for the frame for less than $300 after all the closeouts and discounts. The frame is a very good fit for how I ride in my 70's. I took everything off except the stem and bars and mounted Shimano wheels w 32 mm tires, a complete Shimano Sora 8sp drive train (including flat bar road brifters) from my old flat bar road bike with Avid mechanical road brakes. 50/34 compact front and now 12/34 rears. The 8sp is in my experience bullet proof. The new Sora 9sp deraileur is advertised to take up to a 32 cassette and handles the 34 without complaint. I normally ride with the rear rack and bag to carry cameras, tools, stuff as necessary. I've sold all the other bikes and this is my general all purpose rider for road and gravel. Why that frame.............well I'm 6' tall with a 30 inch inseam and I've always had to find frames that are smallish for my height but with longer top tubes. This one lets me ride a bit more upright at my age and still has room for stem adjustments to even add to that when necessary.

  36. @maddmaxx is that the bike you bought to customize to you? Looks like a great day for a ride! @Longjohn do you n+1 kayaks like some of us n+1 bikes? I don't kayak, so I don't know how that works. And May the Fourth be with you.... (My Mr. Potato Head collection; Darth Tater, Spud Trooper, and R2Potato2)

  39. I did, when I egged his house. It was cathartic. He hasn’t lived there for years now, but I still laugh when I drive by. (His house had a faux 1890’s portico thingie on the front with a cast eagle on the glable end and I laid an egg right on that eagle).

  40. Yes, I read earlier about the folks that were stranded. I have a hard time understanding how folks can justify driving around road closed signs, because their GPS indicated that was the way to go. I mentioned here before about getting semis traveling on our gravel roads, because the drivers were following their GPS for the shortest way to the interstate. Sometimes they've gotten stuck going around some sharp corners and some in town have wrecked their trailers trying to go though the underpass.
