  1. Today I got to sleep in as late as I wanted and I didn't have to set an alarm. This made me feel very rested. Once I woke up I decided to bring some old sheets to a nearby animal shelter. When I got there one part of the gate was open but the other part was closed and there was a sign that said closed. I decided that the open gate controlled, so I drove in and dropped off the sheets. This made me feel a bit adventurous and happy that I could help the animals. On the way home I saw a grocery store that was from the same chain of stores that I usually go to, but a new location. I decided to try it rather than drive 15 minutes to my regular store. The store was smaller than my regular one, and more crowded. This made me feel a bit claustrophobic, but I got my groceries and that made me feel accomplished. I also felt glad that my usual store isn't so hectic. As I was driving home, I passed a local park that was having their first farmers' market of the season. I decided to stop and see if the guy who sells yummy fruit tartes was there. He hadn't been the last few times I went to the farmers' market, so I was hopeful but not overly optimistic. But there he was and I got nice fruit tartes to bring to my Mom's and into work on Tuesday. This made me feel very pleased. This park also has a farm area where they have some animals and nice flowers. It was sort of a rainy day but that meant the park wasn't too crowded. There were some fun goats, cows, horses and a giant pig. But best of all in one of the barns they had a variety of different types of sheep, each of which had lambs within the last week or so. Two of the lambs were only two days old and still struggling to walk. Such cuteness made me very happy. Then one of the volunteers at the park asked if I'd like to pet one of the lambs and this made me feel very sheep-herdery. Then I came home and had lunch and a nice nap. The End

  4. Today I got to sleep in as late as I wanted and I didn't have to set an alarm. This made me feel very rested. Of course, as a retiree I do that almost every day, but it still feels good. Once I woke up I decided to go for a bike ride on the American River MUP. I selected a very fast bicycle, because I knew it would be crowded due to the holiday. When I got there, it was even more crowded than I had anticipated. This made me feel a bit adventurous and happy that I could ride with the animals. On the way upriver, I saw a poor confused looking white egret, that I usually go see, but a new location. It looked terrified due to all the people. I continued riding along up to the bridge, my usual turnaround. The bridge was a freak show of joggers, cyclists, electric cyclists, dog walkers, and more crowded. This made me feel a bit claustrophobic, but I did my usual yoga stretching and tai chi at the bridge, and that made me feel accomplished. I also felt glad that my usual ride isn't so hectic. As I was riding home, I passed a paceline of gravel riders who dropped down off the levee in front of me and took my line. I decided they were idiots, and said out loud in my impolite voice, "Seriously ? Jesus fucking Christ, guys !!" This made me feel very pleased. This MUP also has many other idiots on bicycles on weekends and holidays. It was sort of a hot day but that meant the idiots were in even more of a hurry. But best of all on one of the blind curves, this idiot woman who reminded me of the guy in @AirwickWithCheese's Trophy Club photo, shouts out "On your left", and then has to impinge my line when someone coming around the blind curve in the opposite direction appears. I catch her and pass when it straightens out after the curve, and say to her "That's probably not the best place to pass." She gets cute and gives me some lip, then finishes with, "You know you're supposed to hug the right side of the lane out here." Which is bullshit to the fifth power, and made me feel judged. So I pulled alongside here again and said, "I'm glad we had this little chat, from which you have learned absolutely nothing." Then I engaged the warp drive and dropped her like the angry sack of resentment and unhappiness that she is, came home, took a shower, cut myself a slice of rhubarb pie, and ate it with some hot cocoa. The End (p.s. I might have yelled "Bite me !!" right before I dropped her.)

  8. ...good luck. It's so popular now that the tickets are sold by lottery. We get a lot of people coming through here on their way who fly in from other countries. Big airport here. The only sure way to get in is to work one of the regular venues, or volunteer as staff for the setup, take down, and run of the festival. Not sure you would dig the uber-hippie, ultra-vegan rave vibe. I think I might be too old for that stuff now. The idea of dropping multiple tabs of MDMA and dancing all night to techno beats while sucking on a pacifier leaves me feeling a little bit nauseous.

  9. Haha, I rode with the old ladies. 3.4 miles total. My SIL hasn’t been on a bike in two years. It took me longer to fix her flat tire and load the bikes than we spent riding. I had a lot of things I would have rather been doing but I kept quiet. I came home and mowed and worked in the garden.

  11. I haven't been feeling so great lately, not "sick" but not myself either. I passed on several opportunities to ride the past week as I "just wasn't feeling it". Decided to do a beach ride today. 25 miles no hard efforts and a nice long cruise up the boardwalk. Stopped for a coffee too! Just what the Dr ordered.

  13. 60 hot, hilly, and humid miles at around 14.3 mph avg. It was in the low-90°F. I set a couple of PR's on Strava plus set a record for climbing in one day. Trailnet/BFC Great Pizza Bicycle Ride 2018 long route out of Millstadt, Illinois. Double the hills! Climbed up the bluffs on both Hanover Road and Cherry St (AKA Cemetery Hill). Both are over 13% in places. https://www.strava.com/activities/1601980751

  17. My co-worker is getting giraffe tomorrow. It's a long story, but there was this giraffe painting that we mocked. It went away, but before that happened...I made a photocopy of it. Randomly, I will send people official mailers, but when they open it, they will find the giraffe. Well, the photo copy is getting old. So, I re-painted the pic. Now, I just intend to randomly place art in people's offices. Starting with my giraffe. @Randomguy

  18. I actually tried to do a good deed in my ride. Passed up a guy in regular clothes pushing a hybrid. I noticed it had 700c wheels so pulled up next to him and asked if he needed help. Yeah have a flat... I stopped, said no worries buddy I gotcha and... oh ohh.... I left my tool bag on my crosser as I rode that bike last. Damn dude I'm sorry I don't gotcha... I told him I'd be doing the same if I flat... He was grateful I pulled over and thanked me anyway.

  26. ...I intend soon to start a poll on this topic. Teh people will speak, and their voice shall be heard. ...like a bad habit. Like she was standing still. Like MomCheese dropped you on your little pumpkin headbone when you were a baby. The red Ron Cooper bike with custom built wheels by Page is so fast, it's all I can do to hang onto it. I would say that even you could be fast on this bike, but we both know that would be lying.

  27. OK - translations Both are back woods southern country. At'll git ya - We still laugh about it, traveling in the backwood between Tallahassee and Apalachicola stopped at a country store. My SIL speaks French and speaks English as a second language. Good comprehension but slang will throw him. He brought drinks and snacks up to the cashier and she goes "at'll git ya". The look of bewilderment on his face was priceless! Several years later he still talks about it and will let the phrase rip in a conversation. Dopes - as in "git me sum dopes" A phrase referenceing the original Coca Cola which is where the phrase started. That was the original recipe before the government required them to remove the cocaine. What a great business model to ensure repeat business!

  32. Yeah, they get flooded like that so often I'm amazed anyone can get flood insurance. I remember that after the June '72 Hurricane Agnes floods - where the winds weren't much but the rain was on top of 26 days of rain in the previous 29 days - the National Guard was guarding Ellicott City for weeks and keeping sightseers out after everyone else in the Mid-Atlantic was back to normal or repairing the damage. Ellicott City was originally a water-wheels mill town on the Patapsco River (which feeds through Baltimore then to the Chesapeake Bay) and it is located right where the river's path begins to snake left then right then left, etc. - maybe that helped keep the water high in drought periods for the mills. But today, those bends in the river mean the river runs into a wall and backs up, and Ellicott City gets whacked every so often. I'd never live or build a business there, but there must be a reason people do! Ellicott City is personally famous for the only place I ever went parking in a car with three teenage girls all to myself - we were all Seniors in same high school. Actually, only one was my actual date and we crossed paths with the other two at a sub shop. When we told them we were going parking near a famous haunted building in Ellicott City, they jumped in my car. Unfortunately, we spent a lot more time looking for ghosts than kissing! But it sure helped build my esteem among the guys who saw us!

  37. Our pool party was held 20 minutes away from Ellicott City. We were EXTREMELY fortunate that no one at the party lived in one of several flooded areas around Baltimore. We got 9.5" of rain Sunday afternoon/evening but it was so intensely concentrated that there was no rain or thunder from 2-4 pm, 5-5:30 pm, and 8-9 pm when the pool was in use. When the rain and thunder returned, a couple dozen would scamper from the pool to the house and my sister-in-law wondered how she was ever going to dry out her wall-to-wall carpet. We had a few big tents set up, the food and drink being under one and many of us partiers under another. Every so often, some brave soul would make a beer run to the food tent that was 20 feet away, coming back as soaked as if he/she just went swimming. It was after scampering indoors after the 5:30 pm rain that we learned about Ellicott City from the TV news.

  41. OK worth a shot... What size is each foot? I'm a 12 left foot 11.5 right. I always have an unhappy foot. In order for my left foot to be happy my right foot swims in the shoe. If my right foot is happy my left foot is cramped. So no they won't be perfect from the get go. However.... My pink Empires fit so well my left foot is happy and my right foot doesn't swim.

  42. You should use tubeless ready rims and tires with sealant. It can be done without tubeless ready parts, but's a bit trickier. Some tires are finicky, others are not. I've struggled with Kenda Small block 8s. Schwalbe RRs were a snap. Specialized Purgatory Grids sealed nicely, but the sidewalls seep sealant which is just weird and now dirt sticks to it. Throw some salt over your shoulder. Have a beer in hand. Be patient if it doesn't go well the first time.
