What hurricane? ? Water was rougher and a lot higher along the shoreline, but nice. At Canaveral National Seashore - notice undeveloped and natural shoreline/dunes. Surfers liked it. It is adjacent to the launch sites (fence to water and guard shack) and tall building is the Vehicle Assembly Building.9 points

After much higher than the desired 7 or under A1c long-term blood sugar tests (they can tell your 8-12 week avg. by the avg. number of sugar molecules stored in your red blood cells) with 11.3 six months ago and 11.7 three months ago, my doctor got me into a University of Maryland Hospital Type-II Diabetes Program (Medicare pays it!) where you take courses on your medications, what they do, and when to take them; your diet and how to adjust it; and the good effects of exercise. Yesterday I got the results of last Friday's blood test: A1c = 6.8. I'm pleased, especially since the U. of MD. diabetes specialist I'm now seeing reduced one of my medications!8 points

I had a doctor appointment with my PCP to go over my blood work. She said my cholesterol is up. We’re going to give the diet and exercise thing one more shot. My blood work they always run for my leukemia tested almost normal. She checked me all over and said I was in excellent health except for the cholesterol.4 points

I remember when my wife went shopping for our daughters' weddings, and I thought I had a day free. I was wrong, because it turned out I had a day expensive. This morning I squeegeed a coating of roof sealer on the porch roof of my daughter's house. This afternoon Mrs. TK and I are going to another daughter's house, and our son-in-law and I are going to put our grandson in a bike trailer and tow him around the neighborhood.4 points

Today I took my bike to a mechanic 'cause after a day and a half if ripping apart my bike I couldn't find the problem. I woke up at 5am to head to work and the headlights were no turning on.. no high beam, no parking lights, but all the rest of the lights worked for braking, turning and so on.. I was pissed I had to take the inlaws car.. I just doing like being trapped inside a vehicle anymore. Anywho.. I put the bike back together this morning, and took it in for them to hook a power meter to in a few spots to see what's going on. Wouldn't you know.. as soon as I handed the mechanic the keys the F'ing light is on.. we talk a little about general maintenance and what I should be doing, and the things I need not worry about and bring to them to do. He decided to turn it on again and the lights didn't come on.. Hell ya.. I wasn't making this shit up! He jumps on the bike and tears off to the back of the shop and calls me over after 15 min to tell me the issue and the prices. He looks at me and says it will be about $30 for finding the issue I couldnt. No worries.. thats going to be the cheap part I figured.. Somewhere in the wiring harness I have a short in the grounding wire. He showed me the section that over heated and started to burn.. Summary will be 300 to rewire the bike, or as he said "you are not scared to take things apart, and buy the looks of your hands you might know what your doing with tools". If you would like we can fix it, or you can go home, splice the line here and hear and put a jumper line in, and while you at it, Put a jumper line here and ground the line to here. I told him I'll do the work, and then I payed the bill while he put the bike back together. I came home and did what he said.. all three lights in the headlight are working awesome now. I also changed the oil, and the brakes while I was at it.. why just do one thing when you can tinker more. I looked at the paperwork after I got home.. the mechanic wrote his personal number on the paper, and told me to call sometime.. he would like me to hang with the StayBroke crew he rides with.. I have been wanting to go out and play with them for a while now.. it's one of those things you have to have an invite to.. yay3 points

One of my sisters who isn't diabetic was diacnosed as prediabetic in her 60's and with proper diet and weight loss isn't considered prediabetic anymore. At a family gathering she went on to tell me and my diabetic siblings how it was a lack of discipline on our part why we are diabetic. Just eat better and lose weight like I did and you too can kick it... We had to educate her that although her efforts are commendable, she just doesn't have the gene that we do that made us diabetic. She was 20lbs over weight and was diagnosed prediabetic at 62. We were fit and diagnosed prediabetic at 35... If you looked at my middle brother and I and were asked to guess which one of us was diabetic you would probably guess my brother. He's 5'8 and 230 where I'm 5'11 205 lbs. I have the gene, he doesn't...3 points

Mmm, Saturday! Gotta load up the van with the killer weeds I sawed down yesterday and take them to the recycling center - they pick up ones smaller than 1/2" diameter, these are like *(&^%$ small trees! I left some leaves and hit them with roundup. Then I gotta attack the sump pump replacement project, and hopefully get in some patio reading, a Ruby walk, and bike ride. Thinking of trying to approximate WIlbur's Israeli breakfast dish that I can never remember the name of, but I think I can google it up. Bam! Shakshuka - invented by Shaquille O'Neill? :D Hmm - all I have is a La Creuset enameled pan, and that should be oven safe. I hope so, for my sake - I would be in big trouble if I rooned it! https://www.themediterraneandish.com/shakshuka-recipe/ Oh, this recipe didn't use the oven anyways. The video was excellent! Oven would have been better though because it is taking forever for the eggz to cook. Man, I sure wish I had me some good crusty bread to go wit' this! Looks good! Easy and spicy - nice. Next time I poach eggs though I'll try the RG method - sounds like more fun. Mmm , this was excellent! The eggs complement the spiciness of the "chili" very nicely would be good with beans in it! Garbanzos. Thanks, WIlbur! I did make a rookie mistake though, overpoached the egg yolks in an effort to make sure the eggz were cooked. Would have been even more excellent with runny yolks, folks! And that is no yolk! PS - I know I suck at photography - I can't even figure oot how to turn on the flash on my eye phone. Hey, it HAD a picture of a lightning bolt on it, thought that meant it was on.3 points

You mean like this from last year? On a related note, the nearby Blackpoint Drive was closed. Several years ago it became fee based on honor system. Was going to drive through on was back. While too hot for wildlife mid afternoon, too early to eat at our favorite Mex/Cuban restaurant in Titusville. Drove by the exit road and noted it had gate closed. When arrived at the entry, closed with workcrew doing major reconstruction of the entrance including some roofed structure, perhaps a gatehouse for fee collection. Ended up driving on US 1 to downtown Cocoa where had dinner.3 points

Six chicken legs, grilled with salt and pepper. They were fantastic! Three last night and three tonight. Mrs. Mooseworth is OOT, and she is not a fan of chicken legs but I sure am. Ruby agrees.2 points

Great job Mick! It’s not the lunch meat. Though it’s not the healthiest, you can eat lunch meat and fat all day long and it won’t raise your blood sugar. I agree with SW to a point. Too many carbs can cause and definitely will exacerbate Type 2 diabetes. But there are many different patterns to type 2. And if you don’t have the wrong genetics you can eat all the carbs you want and you’ll never get it.2 points

What is on your agenda? Goodness of people strikes again. Volunteers coming to help move Mr Aires share of the boxes. Up the stairs to the pod. Down the stairs to the pod. Over And over. Then if it doesn't rain we are going to go try to shoot things.1 point

Up early doing chores. Fixed the plugged drain on the fridge so we don’t get little puddles of water on the floor anymore. Cleaned the chimney for the wood stove, now spending time with grand baby.1 point

Tried to go to Orange Theory Fitness. They are in one of the exploding towns. All the ramps were blocked from the highway, tried to go back roads, would have been 20 minutes late to class. We called and cancelled. Sitting here sipping tea.1 point

Haircuts today is the first thing on our schedule, then off to the chiropractor. My wife is getting nervous about her radiation treatments in Pittsburgh. She is trying to figure out how to get three trips to Pittsburgh a week and still work 40 hours. I was told that the other people that work with Zane are all out of commission except me so I’ll have him every week for awhile until they can get clearances on a couple new volunteers. It’s hard to tell if they get there clearance if they will be able to handle Zane. I’m still believing for a breakthrough with him.1 point

Sorry...my 76 year old co-worker doesn't know how to forward an e-mail to me...and gets stuck on details that are not her business...and doesn't do her own work...wish someone would figure out she needs to be gone instead of selling memberships in the cooperative to people who need to be in assisted living..Oh yeah...she won't tour drop ins...because she can't walk the building enough to give more than 1 or 2 PLANNED tours a day... I hate to think about waiting til 70 to retire....but I need the $$$$$$1 point

Fantastic! Ask her to do an insulin level. Been listening to a lot of books in the car, some related to cholesterol. Seems carbs can increase cholesterol too, possibly more than digested fats. I'm not too convinced, but it's worth a look. I eat far too many carbs, very little fat, and my cholesterol is less than 140. That's not the case for everyone.1 point

The way I heard it William Bengen developed the SWR in 1994. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Bengen#CITEREFBengen1994 Then some profs at Trinity University popularized it. Now sometimes called the Trinity Study I'm using 3% as a rule of thumb. My party money will be my bottle deposit money that i pick up on my walks1 point

There is never enough money in retirement unless you're a 1%er. There will be disasters like failed wells and trees falling on your home or floods when the drain system backs up or medical costs that will eat up your retirement faster than you could possibly believe. I'd mention more but I don't want to depress you.1 point
