  1. After living in this town for almost two decades, I finally decided to visit the library. Normally I don't like having a time deadline to read a book, but I wanted access to some of their online databases. This made me feel all eager to learn. I found the library which is located in a nice little town park with tennis courts and and a baseball field. It was pouring rain. This made me feel wet. On my way into the library I passed a cheery young woman who ran by and shouted "Happy Rainy Day!". This made me feel very welcome. I entered the building and a sensible elderly lady at the front desk told me I could apply for a card there. She asked me if I had a drivers license with a town address and I told her yes and handed her my wallet. She looked at my license very suspiciously which made me feel a bit like a suspect, even though I had done nothing wrong. She seemed pleased that I had printed off the application from online and already filled it in. This made me feel proud. She typed a bunch of stuff in the computer and then handed me my very own library card in a paper case and a smaller key chain sized one. This made me feel very accomplished. She then offered me a tour of the building and I was actually very impressed with the collections and the nice reading spaces. There was a mother and daughter working nicely on a jigsaw puzzle. This made me feel very neighborly. She told me there were ACT training classes going on in the activity room. This made me very glad I didn't have to take the ACT exams. I told her that the building was very lovely. This made her feel proud. I looked around the reading room and saw a magazine that looked interesting. I sat down in the one big leather comfy chair in the room and read it. This made me glad that nobody else was in the room and I could have the best chair. On my way out I noticed the road that passed the baseball field meandered up a hill. I wondered what was up the road so I decided to drive up despite the heavy rain. This made me feel adventurous. I drove up the road and discovered it ended up in a parking lot. That made me feel a bit let down, but overall I felt very accomplished. The End.

  3. A car chase would have been a welcome plot twist, but still a nice story.

  4. I had two types of kale. I am also trying to use up stuff before the move. So I took some veggie broth from freezer, added white beans and kale. Also some peppers and onions that I froze over the summer. A few mushrooms too. Spices in the creole family. It is great soup.

  7. Excuse me, while I go read Kirby's fine post. Chances are, I am going to like it.

  8. There were nowhere near 28 likes and I think it was more of a show of support for the institution of the library

  9. Greenville doesn't have a library. We used to have a library truck but we converted it to a craps game on wheels for the poorer side of town.

  10. 35.4 miles at 14.8 mph avg. I somewhat overdressed as it got to 60°F but the forecast was for 56°F. Sunny and little wind. Hopefully tomorrow will be more of the same.

  17. More photos of library. There are some large key permanent art that reflects the local history/culture...art as part of visual stories, stimulating storytelling, historic narratives. Of course, several hundred yrs. ago we had wild bison not far from our area. The LRT rail and trains run through under the library at road surface level....a very different and in the architectural world considered an innovative design. There is a large public theatre for all sorts of events. The winter Olympic bid debate for the public was packed inside this theatre... and Calgary voted NO against the Olympic bid hosting in our city. (Thank goodness..)

  26. That was actually a 2016 photo. They are doing great, visited over holidays (photos posted) and returned to Switzerland Jan 1. Another from 2016...the next couple of days with grandma and also my daughter. Funny part was, a day or so later the hospital photographer came in with an entry level Canon and basic lens. She became intimidated when she saw me with a huge 70-200 mounted on my Sony.

  28. Amazon allows more garbage than waste management. I pay $60 to dispose of a few bags of garbage and they are very picky about what kinds of garbage they allow. They have a whole list of things they won’t accept. Thank dog for those heavy duty contractor trash bags. If it fits it ships.

  35. It actually was a great story. The Greenville library was in an old abandoned Coca Cola plant but things were kind of slow so we turned it into a pool and dance hall. You could get a 10% discount on Wednesdays by showing your old library card.

  37. Ok, since every forum cyclist seems to have a dog or a dog in past life... ?? Here's dearie's daughter's dog. He loves our place because it's carpeted. He doesn't slide all over the place. Every Christmas Eve, his daughter and her dog are always invited for dinner. She adopted this dog from a dog shelter. Charley, the dog is especially avoidant to a lot of ...men. It took him a lot time to warm up to dearie. Daughter believes the dog was abused as a pup.

  39. My liberry card is quite retro and weatherbeaten. It is maybe 20-30 years old and has an embossed metal band for use in those old credit card-type swipe machines. But they did slap a bar code sticker on it, so it is still functional in the modern world.
