  1. So I was asked to lead training for new Cubmasters and Asst Cubmasters months ago, before Ryan started playing rugby. The training was today, as was a rugby tournament in College Station, Texas on the Texas A&M campus. I tried for the last two weeks to find a replacement trainer. Had one guy tell me he could cover my morning class, but not my afternoon class. Had to pass as this would leave a class uncovered and there were people signed up to take the class. So I told Ryan that I could not make his tournament, because your word in your bond and told someone I would do something, so I did it. Had 1 person no show for the morning class, and all the people no showed for the afternoon class. Ryan started in all 4 games today. They won 3 and finished second place in the tournament, losing to the best team in tournament 15-7. Ryan's coach said he was a beast today. Before he left, I told him that in sports and in life, that in order to play like a champion, you had to think like a champion. He has a tendency to be timid if he is unsure what he is doing. Told him to give it 100% no matter what he did. He told me tonight he just sort of stopped thinking and started doing.

  2. That was my first real bike ride of the year. We rode out to Cumberland, next town over. There is a sandwich/baked goods place there, and I was planning to stop and split a coffee and a goodie. Closed on Sunday. Still, I proved to myself that I can ride. With help, of course.

  3. I got up early to take my car to the garage for an oil change. This made me feel productive. But I got held up with some work emails and left later than I had planned. This made me mad. But when I got to the garage, they could take me right away which made me happy. I I'm always slightly intimidated by the owner who is a brusque Eastern European, but I've dealt with him for years and trust him. He didn't make me feel bad, so I felt good. After that I did some errands and came home for lunch. That made me feel accomplished. I was all set to do some laundry and take a nap, when I heard a loud bang and glass came flying around my bedroom. This made me feel alarmed and my cat was worse. Then I remembered I live next to a golf course and I went out to see which bad player had put a golf ball through my bedroom window. I saw two rather young teens on the course and one of them was trying to move away quickly which isn't easy to do when you are carrying a set of golf clubs. I called them over and the young boy who had hit the ball (not the one running away) seemed nervous (probably afraid of telling his parents) but was very polite and asked what he should do. This made me feel bad for him, so I just asked him to ask the golf course to come help cover up the window since it was going to rain. Then I started cleaning up the glass from the bed and all over the floor which made me nervous, but I think I got it all, which made me feel relieved. Then I called the glass company who said they had the right glass in stock and could come on Monday to fix it, which made me happy. The golf course people came and covered up the window, which made me feel better. Then I was finally able to take a nap which made me feel very happy (and less tired). The End

  6. Great time. Hooked up with some old friends, had some great food, and shared some stories. To top it off, I got a job offer. An acquaintance from way back runs a drive away service delivering used vehicles, usually cross border. Thinking about it.

  7. I went running in the woods, which was great, nice cool day. Pushing hard on the uphills, I topped a short (100 feet ? ) steep, slippery, grade that a month ago had me gasping to walk. So I went all out, topped that sucker still moving pretty good, stopped to catch my breath and began to question the wisdom of being an old fart running hard in the woods, where there is no around to laugh at me....or call 911....

  11. How many more years do you intend to do this flying thing? Interesting flight test story. There was a period back around 1990 give or take a couple of years that P&W attempted to use a new fan case on their engine made out of kevlar. Worked great in the test stands and seemed to be the wave of the future. About 50 engines had been completed and shipped to Boeing when the first began to hit flight test at the end of the assembly line just before customer delivery. One of the tests was supposed to be a single engine aborted landing with a go around. This is accomplished by throttling one engine to idle just before landing.....or just after wheels down, followed by a full power setting on the other and a rotation for the go around. That's when the problem surfaced. The fan case flexed too much under the gyroscopic effect of the fan going to full power and the aircraft's rotation and the fan blades hit the case and caused an engine stall. The crew was faced with the prospect of bringing the other engine up to full power while continuing the take off while hoping that the other engine would not suffer the same fate. It seems that the flight crews used up a number of uniforms during those few weeks that the kevlar case was in service. This is how the story was explained to me. I got it because I was at the receiving and retest of those 50 or so engines as they were flown back to P&W 2 at a time to be rebuilt with conventional fan cases and flown back to Boeing, all at our expense. Manufacturer flight test sounds like....................not boring.

  14. I used my afternoon to sweep the hardwood floors, mop the bad spots, fold and hang some laundry and repair the vent to the dryer. It was leaking and blowing hot, humid air and lint into the laundry room. My fix is temporary and I really need to run new hard vent lines and find a new way to route the hose from the dryer to the vent connection. Also did some dishes and wiped down the counters in the kitchen. Tomorrow may be a day of rest,

  15. I thought it was hilarious that a house next to a golf course I was playing had absolutely destroyed asbestos shingle siding and a big For Sale sign on the lawn. ;D I also clearly remember 30 years ago when I hit a high shot and we were all just standing there watching it head toward a parking lot, and I was worried it might hit the plastic Pontiac Fiero, but it hit the parking lot and bounced very high but amazingly didn't hit anything. That course was infamous for having the condos too intermingled with the links.

  23. Thanks. In a week or two, I plan on riding my bike into Portland, to TJs and Whole Paycheck. It would be amazing if I can keep this going. There is a ride I've been doing for over 20 years, off an on. You start in Bath, and ride down the peninsula to Fort Popham. In absolute terms, it's not hard, but there is a fair amount of rolling countryside. I'm going to guess and say it's ten miles each way. I hope to do that in June. There is a seafood place next to the fort. We usually have lunch there. Your experience helped me come to a decision about getting this, thanks.

  24. For some reason, that wasn't in today's forecast UNTIL I rolled out of the driveway Then, it was that windy symbol for several hours. I decided to ride a shorter ride and find some hills since the wind doesn't hurt as much that way. 43 windy, sometimes sunny miles. Garmin said 15mph, Apple claimed 20mph winds. Both sucked blew. ?

The silver lining in this is that I feel a whole lot better knowing that you've failed miserably in your endeavour to be vegan.......I really hope that this doesn't make me a bad person as I have a pretty high opinion of myself.

  30. Will you stop listing all the things you have done as it's making me uncomfortable given that I'm just back from the pub where I ate a traditional Sunday roast dinner and had a glass of real ale. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be had in doing absolutely nothing........just being as it were. I'm trying to perfect this and appear to be making good progress.

  31. Went completely unplugged this weekend to check everything out and work out the bugs. So far, I need to replace the coach batteries (not holding a good charge) and the fridge isn't working in the gas mode. It was fine before we left the house, so I'm thinking something rattled loose on the drive. Oh well...the joys of a new rig.

My wife knows i’m Tackling the Tupperware cupboard next. I got rid of all the baby machines except one high chair. The twins dudes turned two in February and I’m not expecting more grandkids.

  43. One of the cooler things this RV has is a tailgater package. The drawer under the drink fridge is a pull out counter. There is also a propane hookup for the grill so you don't have to use a separate tank. The TV pulls out so you can change the viewing angle. The speakers can be switched between TV sound and the radio inside the RV. I think I'm going to get very spoiled in this rig...

  44. The key to the entire series is that "Chemistry is the science of Change". You see Walter change from a high school teacher into a monster, with all of his justifications. It's good television, and I believe you will NOT find yourself identifying with his character for too long.
