  2. Has been up and down, some conflict, some love, some funny, some sad, a lot of drinking; I will need to detox after this. Topsail Island is not my favorite place. Not very photogenic. I forgot the cable to connect my camera to the computer and can't share the pics I have taken. Wife seems to be enjoying it. She is outside of her comfort zone and needs a lot of attention. Her sisters are stepping up and helping, so it takes some pressure off me. I will need a vacation to recover from the vacation.

  5. Changing oil isn't difficult. Avoiding government regulations and sneaking into your neighbor's back yard to dump it is hard.

  6. I have a neighbor and riding buddy who did one of those TDF tour stages. They basically dropped them off hours before the start mid way on the stage and they rode to the finish and then stay & watch the finish. He said they did the Alpe stage and due to the traffic they were told to ride back down for pick up after the stage ended. He said there was people, cars & bikes all over the road and he was absolutely white knuckling it down the mtn. And then George Hincapie and a couple of Posties zoom past him no handed with a bar in one hand, drink in the other weaving through traffic. He said he nearly shit himself when he saw that...

  9. Don't know yet, we picked it up late. I drove it home with the top down, perfect weather. I really liked it. It's amazing driving without blind spots. We're taking it to the White Mountains for a long weekend, we'll get plenty of time in it. The wife hates wind, so we'll need to keep the top up some of the time.

  16. Wednesday night they serve dinner at the gun club. One night a week, one menu choice for appetizer, main course, and dessert. Mix and match as you like. I had fried green tomatoes topped with crab and a salad. That was the appetizer but i actually brought one home for lunch tomorrow as three were too many. It was durn excellent. Beautiful night too. Too bad my gun is in the shop and I left my spare at home with my dad.

  19. Going oot to walk Ruby in my new Hoka One Ones. Sort of like driving a tack with a sledge hammer, but I dood it! Tried on 4 brands at the spensive running shew store, and surprisingly, New Balance was the runner up, followed by Mizunos and Brooks. I thought New Balance was going downscale, so therefore the surprise. The Hoka felt best in the heel and the New Balance felt best in the toe. The Brooks were tightish in the toe, The selling point was how the heelstrike feels, it rolls instead of jars like all the others. The road test report in a while. signed, Ralph the accidental big spender. :D

  20. Our friends at Breakaway Siberians have been posting pictures of their huskies in Blues gear all throughout the playoffs. The Blues management noticed this and contacted them and asked for a meeting with them and their dogs at the arena. Last night after the win the result of that meeting was posted on their facebook page. Facebook post Breakaway Siberians web page. Like our team many of theirs are rescue dogs. Huskies are very cute but a handful and many are surrendered because they are too much for inexperienced people to handle. That said I do not condemn good breeders. Without reputable breeders we will never maintain good dogs but will only have problem ones from uneducated breeders, puppy mills and accidental breeding. It has been exciting to see the pictures our friends have been posting of their beautiful dogs. It is hard to imagine how difficult it was to get 16 excited huskies to pose for a picture like this.

  21. Since today is my Friday, I will kickstart the thread. Going to a real barber for a haircut and a neck trim after work. Friday morning bike ride followed by the court case at 9:00. Free afternoon, I might go for a hike at Great Falls before working at the LBS at 5:00. Saturday is the BikeMS Chesapeake Challenge; starting and ending in Easton MD on the Eastern Shore. 100 mile ride to Tilghmans Island, St Michaels, Oxford to Bellevue Ferry. Beer and food at the finish line. Sunday is Fathers Day. Son and I are going to check out some breweries in Loudoun County. Vanish Farm, Barnhouse Brewing, and Old 690. We will bring some cigars for privacy. Lobster rolls for dinner.

  26. Mom liked to have a male come along when she bought a car. If you think car salesmen are bad now... So I was in my early 20s, and we went looking at cars. I test drove (whooops, should have said we) a BMW 2002, and I fell head over heels in love. She would have preferred something else, with the benefit of hindsight. She kept it a couple years, and sold it. But it wasn't a total loss. Her car attracted the attention of my future father in law, who was a wonderful guy and just what Mom needed. C'est le vie.

  38. The phone we had in the 50's in rural NC had no dial. You talked to an operator to place the call. And we were on a party line. You had to listen the the sequence of the rings to know if it was for you or not. And being on a party line, many times you couldn't call out and others couldn't call you if someone else on the party line was using their phone.
