  1. We are having a department "event" next week designed to promote bonding and getting to know one another. We were asked to prepare answers to a few questions (such as favorite book, movie, pieces of music etc) and items for the annoying "Two Truths and a Lie" game. I am not sure that knowing more about my coworkers is a good thing, and I'm dubious they want to know more about me.

  3. We didn't do a whole lot on the BIKE shed yesterday, bit we did get good things done. HoSmudge spent a few days at camp and got two windows set in. We measured and leveled and installed shims. The two windows didn't have a nailing flange, so they were a little difficult, but we got them in ok. The door went in fairly well too considering the only shims we had left were the remnants from the windows. The counter top in the corner will be my work bench. Looks like I have a heckuvalotta more room for bikes than I thought! DoSmudge2 says I could fit ten in there. Gotta start shopping!! I stayed after supper and put a coat of paint on the door. It's actually an indoor door (solid core, so not flimsy or lightweight!), and we're supposed to get rain. I wanted a little protection for it, so I painted the outside of it. It's a little beat up, but the paint makes it look pretty nice! I'll probably put a couple more coats on the outside. Inside is really rough; probably at least three coats there too.

  5. Why are baby diapers given name like huggies. Luvs and pampers while old folk diapers are called depends. Well, it turns out that when a baby craps in it's pants you will still love it but when an old person does the same it depends on who is in the will.

  21. You will find me at the New England Air Museum tomorrow. Perhaps I will bring back pictures. For the last few years I've been there to fly in a drone show and didn't have time to look around. We used to go regularly and I was allowed access to the storage area. It's a much larger tourist attraction now than it used to be. They can't afford to be as flexible as back in the day when I could crawl into a plane out in the field because the volunteers were there restoring it. It's still a great stop if you're down this way. It's not Dayton, but it's good.

  22. Carne Adovada. I started with 2 oz dried Ancho chiles and 2 oz dried NM chiles. Soaked in boiling water for 30 minutes. Drained them and puréed with garlic, vinegar, honey, cumin, Mexican oregano, cayenne pepper and salt. Added two cups of the reserved liquid. Poured over 3 lbs pork tenderloin and placed on the Weber grill with hardwood and hickory for two hours.

  34. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punkeydoodles_Corners When I was a teenager, I had heard of this place. A hamlet, supposedly at the junction of 3 counties --Waterloo, Perth and Oxford. Several myths how it got its name...one of them a local singing Yankee Doodle but to others it sounded like Punkeydoodle. ? Rattlecan and I come from Waterloo County.

  35. I wouldn’t call social systems, socialism. Not in the true definition. Some politics leans that way though, like the NDP. Our tax laws are heavily influenced by income redistribution. A throw back to the days Canada was more of a socialist country. Even the new Carbon Tax is just income redistribution. Take from the haves, give to the have nots. It does nothing for the environment. That is just the gift wrapping. Social programs like maternity/paternity leave are far better for the recipient in Canada than the US. Socialized medicine is good. I wouldn’t trade it for the US system at all. As I said in that other thread, I guess it was deleted or moved to hell, healthcare should be a basic human right, not a benefit for the employed or insured. Long gone though are the days of Crown Corporations, except the CBC. They would die a quick death if it weren’t for tax payers dollars. Maybe Air Canada as well.. throw in Bombardier.. and SNC Lavelin..and .. Maybe we are a socialist country.

  40. So today, we cycled north 15 km. with 35 km/hr. winds in face to our favourite Italian store and deli in the semi-industrial area of city. To get there, we rode through the central park path system and noticed teepees set up near a historic old fort. This week was indigenous week (native Indian). There was some drumming and other stuff going on. We continued on...the strong winds made the long grasses sweep and undulate like waves of grass-water. Veal parmiagiana was delicious. We shared an Italian donut (which is probably light pizza dough deep fried quickly, then sprinkled with sugar.. very "pure" in taste), bought 2 types of prosciutto (1 of them is actual German....they call it schinklespeck), an Italian cheese, some dried herbs, mushrooms, a bag of frozen lemon-artichoke ravioli, etc. Cycling back, we passed by a banquet hall where there was a group of dressed up East Indians...hanging out by a shiny farm tractor. Beautiful women in saris giggling by the tractor while the guys in suits looked on amused. Then we were on a quiet, deadend road leading into thepark….and passed by a hawk sitting on the fence. Just 2 metres away! Close to downtown, we stopped in an older historic neighbourhood where we went to an art gallery. An exhibit of contemporary indigenous art from the Inuit, Innu and Sami cultures worldwide. Then we lounged around in a chic furniture store to dream of nice furniture. Next door, outside was music starting up......start of a week long music/arts festival. As cyclists, we were very conservative ? against the......madmaxx counterculture bikes and their riders. ?? A celebratory madmax bike ride just ended at this music spot. Wouldn't want to fall off a bike with antlers for handlebars! A great urban cycling simple adventure for Saturday...good food, riding near nature, some art, music and cycling counter culture in bright sunshine.

  41. A while back I was at the Credit Union drive thru making a truck payment. A red pick up with a truck box tool box drove by. In the truck box was a big ol' Great Pyrenees with his front paws on the tool box and head ever so nobley in the air lovin' the wind in his face. I laughed my head off. You go, big guy!!

  43. ...I can hear the band playing while I sit here and type. They just finished the worst cover version of "Sweet Home Alabama" I have ever heard in all my days on earth. If @AirwickWithCheese were here right now, he would probably go up onstage and challenge the lead singer to a duel. I would be happy to wait in the parking lot with him and beat these guys senseless as they pack up their equipment.
