  2. Got her out of the house to go for a ride in the car. The original plan was Presque Isle, but she was way too tired to even consider a 3 hr drive each way plus time in the park. We went to Ohiopyle, an hour or so each way, took the long way today, about 4 hours total. She didn't get out of the car, but did enjoy the scenery. I took the camera, but neglected to check the battery, got a half dozen so so pics before it whet tits up. Wife says she enjoyed the day. I know I would be bat shit if I was stuck in the house like her. Getting in and out of the house is an ordeal. I know I could make it better, but she is so scared of change that I just go with the flow. River is flowing real high, ran out of battery before finding a good image

  3. We had gone back to the Dodge place yesterday to look at a used GMC for 25K. After we looked at it, I was not really thrilled with some of the features. Like, buying a new vehicle, I was looking forward to a back up camera. Not being a great driver, I hate backing up. This feature makes me really, really happy about parking. So, we didn't buy that one. We looked at a few more on the lot and I just wasn't feeling it. So we went home dejected and went back to the internet and my husband had been talking to the GMC place over the hill (130 miles and a mountain pass). He ended up hashing out a very good price for a new GMC. We had a vin, and we decided to make the trek and check it out. After all that, we get there and the car is NOT on the lot. It is in transit. So, now we are even more annoyed with this process. They offer to fill out tank and if we wanted to buy that one, they could deliver it over the hill to us. But, we hadn't even seen it. Plus they wanted us to pay for it through GM financing and we would have no payment due for 90 days (to cover possible extended transport time). ICK. Nope. Nope. Nope. We were about ready to walk away and drive back home. They asked us if another truck would work. We opted to look at some Silverado trucks. We were close to getting one and it was pretty stripped. Then, we realized that 4 Lo is not a normal feature on the lower end trucks. REALLY? 4 lo? WTF? We do use it now and again in deep snow, and tricky situations. So that was a deal breaker and a reason to move up to a truck closer to our needs. The Silverado is a little old school with the 4x4 shifter on the floor. Cool. We told them we were an all cash deal. We hashed out a price on the Silverado. They ended up taking about 7 grand off. So, they sold us a brand new Chevy Sierra 4x4 HD Custom. It's white. cloth seats, and really cool floor mats for filthy athletes (love this feature). We bought it for $33,300 + DMV stuff. I felt that was pretty good. It seems that we lost about 3 grand in depreciation. I can live with that. It had 6 miles on it. So, we ended up writing a check for the truck, and I am very thankful for having sound credit. We told them that the funds for the truck need to be transferred from another account. No one keeps their big money in a checking account. I told them that they had to wait to deposit check on like Wed or Thursday. After they checked our credit, they said that would be fine. The truck has a perfect color. It's white. Again, the lot was shocked that we are original owners on a 2001. During our closing papers, the dude asked us "How long do you plan to keep this truck?" I said, 20 years. They got a kick out of that comment. I will get some pics soon. I am getting ready for a modest dinner party tonight. I know some of you will be shocked that we bought a new one, as that is a luxury. I really feel that we did ok. I think we did better this time than we did on our last truck. My husband and I rented a GMC a bunch of years ago and took it 4 wheeling in the winter. She whipped the shit out of that truck. We were pulling our friends around with a tow rope, as they rode their snowboards. Fun and wild day, but that did come to mind when we were talking about buying something with some miles on it. We can't tow for another 400 miles. Looks like the next trip or so has to be in the old vehicle. I am going to drive the truck to the grocery place today. What a luxury.

  5. Currants have long been a family tradition in my family. You can see the original Story of the Currants here. This year I was surprised to see a number of currants. This made me happy. But I wasn't sure what to do with them since my Mom was the one who always made the currant jelly. This made me perplexed. So I went and picked some anyway because they're currants and that's what I do. I gave them to my not wild sister. This made her feel confused. She mentioned she didn't know how to make jelly, and I told her the recipe was in the family cookbook I made a few years ago. This made her feel conflicted. The next week I brought her some more, but it still wasn't a lot since I had a lot of currants this year, but they were fairly small. This still made her feel conflicted. This past week I brought her even more, so she has a nice collection now. She finally said "well maybe I could make some jelly." This made me feel optimistic. Which is odd since I don't really eat a lot of jelly and I still have an inordinate amount of currant jelly stocked in my refrigerator that I will probably never eat. The End.

  13. Drinking a Shiner Bock after hike in the sand dunes. The original plan was do a fast pace hike for 1 and a half miles in the dunes and we run back a mile and a half on the beach. But since the Lake level is at a all time high it turned into a 3 mile hike in the dunes.

  14. You are right. It is a Silverado. I can't seem to wrap my head around that this is NOT GMC. Essentially the same animal though. I am so confused. So, I come out of the grocery, and I look to my usual area where I park and my truck is not there. Took me about 5 seconds. Yeah, that IS your truck, lady.

  15. I wish I had a screen porch, I'd sleep out there on cool nights and keep my neighbors up with my snoring. One perk I received as I got older was finally being able to nap sitting up. The other perk was buying a reclining couch to do it with.

  16. I got it at a bike shop that does consignments. Not many do.I wanted to avoid the Craigslist sheotshow. First question....is this stolen? Super nice & helpful. He pulled down an AL bike that was a bit too "long" for me.I'm built for downhills. I tell him of my past love for my steel Bianchi in Celeste. Literally the 2nd bike he pulls out is this Kona. Inotice the brand new drivetrain. He mentions the wheels are new. I have no idea what the guy that traded it in was thinking. Why would he do those upgrades? I doubt the shop swapped out the stuff. I took a 5 minute test ride and laid out my CC

  19. @Rattlecan knows this one. When I was working 2 jobs the night job was driving to the Coast and swapping trailers. By then I was 14 or 15 hours into my workday. So at the top of the grade was a place to pull off. I would heat up the tractor then pullover and lay my head on the steering wheel. By the time the tractor got coolit would wake me up and I was GTG perhaps you could find a night job to try this out?

  20. At the LBS. a guy comes in for nuts for a 16” kids bike training wheels. Next thing I know I’m roped into a discussion on bourbon and scotch whisky. Customer says he will return with the kids bike in need of nuts and bottles of whisky to sample. Within an hour I have samples of Birddog honey and jalapeño bourbon and glenfiddich 25 year old scotch. Truth be told I liked the scotch better. More better.

  22. The hottest century I ever did started in Defiance, Ohio and went north fifty miles to a winery and returned. I started when it was just starting to get light (5am?) with head and tail lights. They forecast over 100° temps by afternoon. The first rest stop wasn’t open when we got there. The lunch stop was sort of open, they got us some food and drink but they were not set up yet. The lunch stop was at twenty five miles into the ride, who does that? We rode twenty five miles to the winery. They had water for us and bananas and they gave us an embroidered century patch. If we ordered any wine they would get it to our final stop at the end of the week so we could take it home. I didn’t order any. the last rest stop was at the lunch stop we were at on the way up. It was 102° by then. The last twenty five miles the tar in the road was sticking to our tires. Our cycling computers read 118°. They were reading the heat coming off the pavement but still that is where we were riding. An ambulance would occasionally pull up along side us and hand us ice cold bottles of water TDF style, that was cool. The last ten miles we were on our own. I was wishing I would see someone washing their car or with a swimming pool. I would have paid $20 just to jump in or get hosed down with cold water. There was no place to escape the heat, no stores or anything, at least when we kept pedaling we had a breeze. I pedaled right past my tent and went straight to the shower truck. I took a half hour cold shower and I hate cold showers. I felt a bit out of sorts all evening but went into town and had dinner and was fine the next morning.

  23. A bicycle goes exactly the right speed to watch the scenery & think things through. Slow enough to think a little and take in the sights, fast enough that you don't dwell on shit. And you can crank it up, or, rein it in, as you see fit. Happy Trails Scrapr, may the hills all be down & the winds all be tail

He's very annoying a lot of times but I care. SpeedDemon and I both need him around. Enough about him, where's my Ylva?

  32. Neil Young Tour 2019 Tickets & Dates ...I think we're all worried over nothing. It's obvious that he's flown to Boston for the concert. He probably bought an extra ticket for @SpeedDemon , and while @Square Wheels was showing his weenie to the entire hospital staff where he works, they both went to the Neil Young concert at the Wang.

  34. Thanks @jsharr love the play by play. Championship game today at 4:00 est. we play Dona Ayers. They were the first team we played on Friday. They have 2 girls that can hit the ball well. They have burned through some pitchers playing 2 games yesterday. They have a shaky defense and little to no pitching. On paper we beat this team 99 times out of a hundred. I’m just worried about that one game out of a hundred where the stars align and hey have he game of the century and we play horrible. I don’t think that will happen. If we win win today it’s on to regionals. All of those games will be on ESPN plus! Fixing to go go to the ballpark.

And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone.
