  1. Was supposed to go look at a different one Saturday. The other one was further away and had a rebuilt title (roof was damaged by previous owner, easy to do if you forget something is in the trunk). But combination of storms Saturday morning and kids not wanting to go prevented it. So Saturday afternoon, wife was on the computer and yelled at me to get ready let's go, dealership close by just listed it. Really, it wasn't listed that morning. They had just got it in, hadn't cleaned it (things was still pretty much spotless). All the service records were in the glove box, not a single oil change missing, dang the previous owner was maintenance anal. They had it priced good already, but told the sales guy we would go home and think about it, he dropped the price to a point we couldn't say no. Year newer than the other, clear title, same price. And the wife, who said she wouldn't ride in convertible, spent rest of the weekend saying, "let's take the convertible." And it's all @Square Wheels fault, he put the idea of a hard top convertible in my head and I wanted to be cool like him. Just with Japanese reliability versus German maintenance.

  2. Is still rad. Toads wild ride was done this morning. I love this area. 1800 ft of climbing and scary rocky obstacles. I did this insane rock staircase going down that I have never cleared until today. My buddy was walking and I rode past him on the rock garden. He called me queen all afternoon.

  5. And wife also likes to make sure everyone knows it's my midlife crisis car. I am not arguing with that either.

  7. Interesting one page article if you’re interested. It got my attention with a cover photo that made me think of road runner. https://www.outsideonline.com/2390783/cycling-only-hard-you-make-it

  8. Thought about, but then we realized we are to old and not limber enough, so couldn't figure out the logistics of how to do anything. So we went to Dairy Queen instead.

  10. Had the Niece's kids all weekend, always fun to have little kids running around the house again. Saturday, pulled half the GTI apart to get to the connector and wire harness on the alternator, only to find that it tests OK, and that missing volt I've been chasing is gone before the harness. Which means the only thing between that harness and the battery that could be stealing a volt is the (*&^% battery warning light in the instrument cluster!! I'll get to that later this week The Bourbon tasting was a blast. Bunch of guys, 16 different Bourbons, neat, rocks, with a drop of distilled water... interesting how different the tastes can be, Complete with Bourbon based cocktails, dinner menu and dessert, plus information on how it's made, etc.... My favorite is still the Heaven Hill B in B, but Clyde Mays, Bib & Tucker small batch, and High West Bourye are excellent! Took the boat out Sunday with the niece & nephew & kids, the wife, the dog, intending to cruise the canal maybe to the upper Chesapeake - unexpected storms popped up, the lightning was getting closer so we pulled into a protected Marina that turned out to be bigger than I thought. Got tied up and couldn't find the dog. Turns out she somehow jumped over a bulkhead divider between the cockpit and the bow storage. I had to take the bulkhead wall off to get her out. Also turns out this marina has a fun sports bar/restaurant I didn't know about. Ate, drank, cruised back home in nice sunshine.

  12. I like that!!! I remember when a good friend of mine first started riding, do 5 miles on the towpath. He told me that he thought what I was doing was not for the average person. I told him that it wasn’t as hard as he imagined. That if he just rde he’d soon be doing 25, 50 miles. I few years later we laughed at that conversation together as he rode his first canal trip from Cumberland to DC.

  15. About half of the sheep there were at the Indiana State Fair earlier in the week. Classes weren't quite as big as ISF but the best sheep were there. We took 3rd with our ram this time. Then went back for pair of lambs and flock and 2 blue ribbons. We were surprised about the pair of rams but expected the flock. Flock was the reserve grand and second place ewe and third place ram. On Sunday our granddaughter showed the ram in 7 - 9 year old showmanship and took 3rd. She did an excellent job against every experienced showers. Only her second show. She was much improved from the Elkhart County Fair last month. If she would have showed like she did yesterday she could have won at Elkhart County. She then went in obstacle course and costume. First in obstacle and 4th in costume. Came home with a big hand full of ribbons from first to 4th place.

  16. I have used nothing but debit cards for a long time. You don’t have to carry cash and you don’t have to remember to pay it back, it’s done and you can forget about it. I used to forget to pay my credit card and they would add interest or even penalties. I don’t need that. My banker talked me into playing their credit card game a couple years ago. Use your card for $1000 in purchases in the next 90 days and they give you $200. I also got 3% rewards at the place of my choosing. I would sit in my car and pay off the charge I just made before going home. I only used the card for a month and then I took the money and ran. I really hate spending my time playing those games. Leave Mick do that, he enjoys it.

  19. This is what I did with the family room and living room windows. Both are 99" wide and had two matching windows with the center post. Pictured is the family room, with the living room about a foot taller. While the electric bill isn't that high, should have significant energy savings. That window, together with the kitchen and sliding glass door (not replaced yet) alonf that wall catch the afternoon sun and it becomes quite toasty inside.

  20. ...and this is generally true of life. Want to make jogging tough? Run faster or farther. Want to make swimming tough? Swim faster or farther. Want to make golf tough? Keep score. Want to make poker tough? Play for money. Or... Ride for fun (fast or slow). Run for fun (fast or slow). Swim for fun (fast or slow). None of us here are competitive paid pros, are we? I'm always trying to get folks to just do that first step - get out and do something instead of coming up with all the reasons you can't or won't be able to do something.

  22. So the invasion....started with my great grandfathers who didn't know each other, maternal, paternal. They came to Canada in late 1800's to work. The head tax legislation in Canada and US. made it expensive because the Chinese were not wanted. Anyway.... right now I have approx. 60+ relatives across Metro Toronto this includes cousins, great cousins, their spouses, children, etc. The last photo includes photos of a federal politician who has since died. In the U.S., I met a ton of relatives, cousins born in the U.S. who I didn't know at all. Probably around 40+ relatives in California. So guess which ones are true immigrants, lst generation, direct from a foreign country? How many languages does my family members know to speak at a conversational level for real, not just curse words or where's the bathroom?

  23. Even I was a little surprised to see this display at the grocery store today. I'd have been annoyed, except they had some cute cards that I picked up before all the good ones are gone.

  24. Another storm rolled in and chased me off the water. Young guys were jumping off the railroad trestle. One of them hit the water about fifteen feet away. I didn’t even know they were up there.

  31. The family that was watching them are out of town for the week and the woman that runs the pet rescue is a neighbor so she brought them by. They made Martha so happy and they were so happy to see her, that they spent the night. They slept with her last night and pretty much just want to be with her. I just made Martha some eggs with tortilla chips and salsa and some sausages so she did not not have to wake them to eat.

  33. A day trip, part boat part train...and a lot of walking. On way back from Chateau de Chillon, bus to next town, Territet, where Freddie Mercury's former residence was (top floor photo from boat) then rather than returning to the bus/train station, walked the lakefront to Montreux to catch the train.
