  2. I am riding with a young gal named Aurora. She is very groovy and cool. She knows nothing about MTB. I am gonna toss her on my Fattie 6 and I'll ride Brutus. We are going to hopefully summit Moore Park, but the tippy top might have to get skipped, it is way too schralpy up there for her. Also, I am going to yoga today. I am doing a full class that is beginner/intermediate. No doubt, I will be a little off, as I have to watch. I am not fluid at all. Then, I shall wash my beautiful truck and do some house chores. Some excitement, some relaxing and some chores.

  3. My wife got sick of bumming rides, walking and coordinating errands with me so went and got herself a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. It’s a CPO dealer loaner car with 10,000 miles. I forget the models buts the one just below the top end one. She got a good deal and walked away happy with her car. I had to push her though, she just hates making large purchases & almost walked away after hours of negotiating... it was the car she wanted all along and we looked at numerous others only to go back to the Subaru. I can stop being her f’ing Uber now. It was getting old....

  5. Original post sounds cryptic , but reading all the following posts I garner that you can’t ride as you once did, so you are considering purchasing an e-bike to ride with K a little more the way you used to? I get the struggle. Im not one either that would want to admit I couldn’t get back to where I was. But there are realities we will all eventually face. Advice - make peace with whatever your situation is and do what you need to do to e with whom you love and love what you do. ?

  8. G ran a PR today. Big Xc meet in Columbus IN. This high school thing is really getting intense. His goal was to run 22 something this season. 2 weeks ago he ran a 23:08 in Louisville with side stitches that forced him to slow down at the end. Today no side stitches but he has some mild shin splints. There are only 3 freshmen on the team. The upperclassmen are running closer to 16 min races. So clearly he has work to do. But he has shaved about 4 min off his 5k time this season. I am pretty stinking proud.

  10. I went to bed early tonight because I was exhausted. I went into a dream where Mrs. Further started to feel better than she had in years and didn’t want to waste these good days just hanging out feeling good. She wanted you to use some vacation time you were going to use working on the house to go have fun. At the same time my wife had the same thing happening and the same idea. The third link was DH had a spontaneous health improvement. Those three planed a forumite meet up mountain bike adventure with their spouses out in DH’s area. Plane tickets bought, mountain bike rentals arranged. I was really enjoying this dream, then I woke up.

  11. 4 16' 2x10's Hanging out the ass end like toilet paper trailing, with 2 sheets of 3/4 pressure treated plywood to hold it in place. The Sienna rocks !!! Iron fist in a velvet glove We assembled the frame of the ramp, shoehorned it into the van and hauled it into place. Showed the kid a few tricks during that maneuver.... Pulled out some shrubs that were in the way, the Sienna has no good way to hook a rope to it, so we used the kids Jeep, he looked a bit sceptical when I layed out the plan, when we were done he commented that he wished he had thought of this when cutting down some shrubs at his house last week

  12. Ended up with a 1 1/4 inch rise per foot. It doesn't seem bad, I know I've pushed her up steeper grades. It was a long, hard day, but a lot of satisfaction from gettin her done. The kid kept looking at me like I was nutz, but then it would work out, he may be revising his geezer opinion of me.. My phone went dead just as I was taking the pic.

  13. The day went great. We did around 8 miles and she climbed about 800 ft. She had fun. Luckily she showed up, after some local people said "You are going riding with HER?" ? The first time I met Aurora, we were at a miutual party and everyone was introducing themselves to everyone there. She loudly said my first name and last name, quite loudly, cause I guess my rep preceded me. She was all happy to met me and chat. It was sweet and funny.

  15. Fun times. I got caught up in a cattle drive on the Yellowhead Highway in British Columbia once. And before you say pics or it didn't happen, I actually shot a video. One of the cowboys jumped up on my running board and rode along while in contact with the head end of the drive by walkie talkie.

  16. Actually, I just went to parking 1 closest to the launch pads rather than 13, but the sign is new - and it makes a good storyline. I think "boardwalk" is the steps and platform over the dunes, as there is no development/arcade/condos in that area...which is what makes it nice. County law prohibits nude bathing, but this is a Federal National Park, and the last parking area would catch people by surprise. I was always aware of it, but the mirror image park (southern entrance at New Smyrna and the road doesn't connect due to no bridge over inlet) caught me as wife and daughter went strolling along the beach at the last beach access parking area. Around Parking 1...Pure "original" Florida beaches before development. The last photo was from the raised walkway platform over and preserving the dunes between the parking lot and the shoreline.

  19. If you ask my wife it was easy, if you asked me it was a PITA. She bought the bike but never commuted so I had to adjust my schedule to take her to work and get her home. After work rides, nope. Weekend MTB rides, gotta ride to the trail head so she’s not stranded for hours. I basically had to rearrange my life so she could be carless. I was also sick of looking at cars and not buying. I excused the dealer last night and told her, we got you a good deal on the car you want, just get the freaking car already... OK...

  20. I recently spoke with two different people who had real cool stories about him. One he boarded research vessel and ended up down in the galley to get something to eat. A crew member who was a power lifter and built like a shaved ape asked if he could get a picture with him. Branson looked at him and said, "I you beat me in an arm wrestle, I will take the picture" Buddy's arms were bigger tha Bransons legs. They squared off and Branson had his guy take a picture of the arm wrestle. He then took the picture with the crewman and said he just wanted to show everyone who he arm wrestled.

  25. Growing up it was mostly personal communication. I rarely called my buds, we just met up outside. Even in HS my GF and I saw each other in school daily and would just plan our activities. After I left we spoke on the phone regularly. Now it’s everything, email, text mostly but I often just call people as it’s easier to communicate a message verbally than to type. I also hate it when you send 8 messages to sort something out when a 2 minute call will suffice.

  29. We all need to overcome obstacles, you've been dealt your fair share of them. I am a quitter by nature, the only way I can survive is to fight the instinct to quit. Every day. Every day it's a struggle. So far I have been winning. It won't last forever, but for now, I do not let adversity win.

  31. About a hundred years ago, I was running down US 15 in Pa following another one of our drivers when all of a sudden he slammed on the brakes and veered to the side of the road. A huge owl had collided with the passenger side windshield and ended up right in the cab with him.

  32. At 20 I was a terror on a motorcycle, pushed the limits and crashed regularly, on the dirt & the street. Walked away laughing. At 60 I had a crash that I might have limped for a week at 20, I missed a month of work and limped for a year. Age is real.

  36. We have only ever had one car. With three kids in four years, it took some coordination and juggling when they were younger but we just really wanted to avoid a second car. That us how I started riding, by riding to work when we moved out west
