  5. Caught this one the other day at my daughters house. Allie as in alligator lizard. Seems to get along well with Darryl but Darryl is in hibernation mode and burrows for days at a time so Allie has a run of the place. The behavior is way different than Darryl. He does the tongue thing like a snake and really doesn’t spook easily. And is devouring crickets at a rapid pace.

  7. This weekend we are going to a cross race in Cincy. Sat and Sun. Hope to be there both days. Hope to take the camper. I think we will just set up in the parking lot. Keeping an eye on the weather to see. G is stoked about it. I have seen a glimpse of the travel ball schedule for next spring/summer. Holy shit. I am a little freaked out. We are playing all over the place. Chatty TN, to Cleveland, to Colorado Springs... It seems a little daunting. We were on the way home and Emmy was doing some math. She was adding up how much we spend on hitting and pitching lessons each week. She almost got a little teary when she multiplied that by 52 and saw how much we spend a year. And that doesn't include her brother's activities or any uniforms or tourney fees. It was kinda touching to see her get worked up. She said "Dad, you could have a newer truck for that". I assured her that I didn't want a new truck. I wanted to see her and her brother succeed.

  9. I found a furnace! After the warranty, that sets me back $600. Plus $3800 installation. But I think I qualify for rebates and 0 interest loans, so that's about $1300. But I just had to overnight a new blower for the old unit, $675. Hopefully I diagnosed the control board correctly, and I won't need that. too. As of yesterday, no heat or hot water. And we're setting record low temps. And the heat in the lab at work is out, so it's cold about 22 hours a day. The part came in for the exhaust fan. Yeah, no way I'm exhausting what little bit of warm I've got in the house. Found a broken window lock this morning in the basement. The open window didn't help. Probably let in a few critters, too. And I got moved to an emergency project at work. Testing broken stuff coming back from our customers. In the unheated lab. Have to drop the truck off tomorrow, hopefully I'll get good news about the broken manifold bolt. I'll need the truck to pick up the furnace.

  12. Thanksgiving Day is two weeks away. What are you planning for the day? Traditional? family favorites? Going somewhere? What’s up people? Wife, son and I are staying home so I’m planning a small meal. Turkey, mashed and gravy. Baked squash and a shrimp and ham jambalaya in lieu of stuffing. Pecan and pumpkin pies for dessert.

  22. Got a 911 call of a medical emergency. Paramedics enroute and as I’m running down the hallway with my trauma bag some a hole is blocking my path. I yell coming through and Dumbass says slow down and moves directly in front of me. I juke right and stiff arm the dude and he face plants into the wall... Crap. You OK? No, you pushed me into the wall. OK stay here I’ll be back and off I go. As my guys escort Paramedics up they see dumb ass 1st and think he’s the injured party. I hear the call of on scene and tell them to leave that guy and continue to suite 305 where I was. They later came back around to help that guy who had an abrasion in his nose but no further injury... So homeboy filed a complaint to HR on me! Directer if HR says what an idiot, too bad you didn’t break his nose....

  23. Has never been right. Rear brake makes a horrid buzzing sound. I have been through numerous sets of pads and rotors. Had a buddy that is very good with bikes look it over. I've had it back to the shop several (4) times. They had Cannondale look at it. Apparently Cannondale cannot reproduce the sound. Buuuuut it has a fork recall. Prob won't have a new fork in hand for it until Jan. (When cross season is over). G has grown. Won't be able to ride this bike next year. Manager of shop just ordered him a new Giant TCX on them. Should be in today. Just in time for the UCI race in Cincy this weekend.

  27. My parents took us on a couple of vacations I recall fondly. I loved going to Williamsburg and seeing the old Colonial locations (and the molasses cookies!), and we went to the Outer Banks a few times, but my overall favorite was just the summers in the Catskills. My grandmother grew up in the area and when she moved to the city and started a family, she got a house in a nearby town in the Catskills where my Mom and her siblings spent all their summers. The place was definitely old when we would go up in the summers, and it was a summer house with no heat or tv. But we were city kids who lived in an apartment, so going up there was our chance to play in a backyard, go biking, swim at the local lake, go for long walks up a country road. ;try to spot the Big Dipper in the stars at night and even have our own room! Sure you sometimes had to deal with bats and keep yourself entertained with no tv, but there was a big room filled with all sorts of toys and stuff left over from when my Mom was a kid including tons of old books - and the real lawn darts that risked serious injury every time you used them! They weren't exciting summers, but it was nice family time and I recall my grandma baking the best apple cake. My room was right above the kitchen so the scents would waft up in the mornings! The big excitement was the Penny Social for the Volunteer Fire Department every summer and the weekly band concert..

  28. My Grand Parents used to take us to a lake a 3 or so hours north of us Bush Lake for two weeks every summer. They rented a cottage along here someplace. The lot that the cottage was on had two cottages. One had plumbing the other had an outhouse. That is when I learned outhouses sucked. There was a girl who lived a couple doors down and my sister would go play with here leaving me alone. I'd fish and take the row boat out. They also had a couple wrought iron bikes from the '50s. I'd take one of those out for a ride around the lakes.

  31. Drove to California and back twice by the age of 10. Once by the wide route through Canada and back on the southern US border and once by a more central route. So by the age of 10 I had been in all 48 continental states and all but one Canadian Provence. Good times before my dad passed away.
