  2. Maddie wasn’t eating well and was spending more time on our laps than normal. She started drooling and wouldn’t let us look in her mouth. I took her to our normal animal hospital on Friday. The vet didn’t see anything wrong in her mouth but her temperature and bloodwork indicated an infection. They sent us home with oral antibiotics. She was worse Saturday morning and no matter what we tried, we couldn’t get a dose in her. The on-call vet agreed to meet us at his office and he spent an hour and a half with us. He had to sedate her and lance a large abscess in the back of her mouth. She got an antibiotic injection that will last for two weeks, and subcutaneous fluids. He reversed the sedation and sent us home. She is 90% back to normal this morning!

  3. Here’s the update. mr. has convinced me to write an open letter of protest to several factors related to this event and share it with every coach in the district. He saw immediately that the board is protecting the personal preferences of a single individual instead of providing an inclusive activity for students. I’m not leaving this activity with my little tail between my legs. I’m leaving it in protest.

  5. Put up the last of the fascia all by myself. Basically the porch roof portion. The top blocks for the posts made things tricky, and HoSmudge put a super tight wrap of d-edge on those corners. A little nipping here and there, and it was installed. Yup, pretty proud of myself.

  8. Odd that a debate judge's position is ended in such a manner. We have gotten into a nasty habit of eliminating voices we don't like rather than discussing issues. Sorry you are going out that way. It isn't right and is lacking the respect you deserve.

  10. One of the local coaches took offense to a comment I wrote on a student ballot, filed a complaint with the state board, and they sanctioned me. The coach was seeking to ban me from tournaments for a year, but the board chose the path of clemency taking other factors into consideration. I am no longer allowed to participate as a judge. I'm not happy. Not because I feel justified in writing the comment; I own that it was of limited benefit to the student overall. But entirely because that student is being coached to express herself in a way I find offensive to the activity. My comment could have no effect in that environment. Usually, coaches read through ballots first, then throw away any that lack educational value before students see them. I'm not sure why the coach even let the student see the ballot if she had taken offense to it. I'm not happy because this is yet another moment of "We don't accept your kind, here." I'm exhausted by this lifelong struggle to define myself as someone worthwhile, who has much to contribute, instead of someone who, according to my dad, "will always be white trash." He refused to support my desire to go to college. That was beyond my raisin'. This situation feels a lot like "You don't belong here" because the members of the board agreed to sanction me instead of to remind the offended coach, "We usually just throw away ballots like that, and then talk to the judge/coach about it." Thanks for listening.

  11. Last year we have 15 students take part. This year we had a full class of 20 and their was a waiting list of 15. We again had TV and newspaper coverage. Not as much as last year but still good. Would have been easier to do an interview if I wasn't so out of breath. Just had returned from running a mile with a woman who was running her dog with my 3 wheel rig.

  14. Part of our European trip will include the area where dearie was born and where his family roots still are/have been in southern Germany, not far from French border. (In France, it is the region of Alsace....German influences in cuisine, some dresswear, etc.) This is the area where he will take us. I've met some relatives on another earlier trip. Dearie was born when the bombs were being dropped. WWII. His mother had to get up after birth and go to another room for safety in hospital. Photo of area. 2nd photo is his cousin's vineyard (in family since 1700's) . He had walked the vineyard paths with his mother when she was alive over 25 yrs. ago. She brought food over from another family location by walking 3 km. through the woods, etc. to the restaurant-inn where the French soldiers occupied the place for a month. By feeding them, it was survival for the family.

  17. Roughing the quarterback is not an excuse for the response, which was where a common defensive penalty turned into a brawl. Rudolph needed to just stop and let the rules of the game issue the response. He didn’t. He incited the brawl.

  18. I'm sorry that your efforts to help kids ended up with unpleasantness. I'd be annoyed at the Board and their nonsense. Frankly, I wouldn't want to do anything that involved dealing with them again, but you're nicer than I am. I'm also sorry that you're still hearing that voice from your childhood. As others have already mentioned, the other people in your life (including us at the Forum) can see how kind, smart and caring you are and can clearly see how special you are. But I recognize sometimes people can be harder on themselves than they are on other people. The Board sounds like a bunch of petty administrators carried away with their own importance and eager to appease the coaches so that nobody bothers them. Good riddance to them!

  28. Don’t want to be late for church. It’s my eight year old granddaughter’s turn to come with me after church. Her favorite place to go is usually Pizza Hut. That works out well because it’s easy to take home. We might stop at Handel’s and get ice cream to eat on the way home. (Grandpas can get away with stuff like this.)

  34. Earth Wind and Fire once appeared at a figure skating show. They performed live from the stage while the skaters skated to the music on a sheet of ice in front of the stage. It was a very odd show because the audience was clearly divided between 1/3 who came to see the skating and had no idea who Earth Wind and Fire were (like my parents), 1/3 who only came for the music and had no idea who was skating around and 1/3 who knew both of them. It did seem like by the end of the show each group had a bit more appreciation for the other performers. Even my Mom who was in her mid 70's at the time was dancing along by the end of the show and the elderly music fan sitting behind me was marveling at some of the skating. It was an odd night, but surprisingly fun.

They are on the short list and the society is looking for someone to get them tonight.. not sure if they are dropping off or we are picking up right now. Still waiting on a call back.. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that means we might be a 6 dog house for a few weeks. I just don't know if I am going to want to give them up after we have them.. I Love dogs enough to have a few hundred of them if I can.

  42. With my good friends in Toronto this fall. All of us are cyclists and have been for past 30 years. All of us have cycle toured in several countries (not together. Our separate ways) and all still cycle-commute. The woman with whitest hair is probably in her late 50's, younger than I (@60). She had her own cycling and walking tour company in Toronto for a few years. The one on left at back, is the oldest @approx. 63 yrs. She was a transportation analyst in govn't….cycling, transit, driver licensing (for seniors) for province of Ontario. She recently sustained a concussion when she was doored while cycling in a separated bike lane in this summer. AFter university, she started off as a bike courier in downtown Toronto. None of us dye/colour our hair. Other 2 also love tennis...playing and watching the game. The other 2 are also very good on taking apart their bikes, changing flats, etc. You never know what people are doing in their lives..by just looking at them.

  43. I saw homeboy a little while ago and shocker he apologized. He said he thought I was a guy in his department about to bum rush him in the hallway which is why he did that. He said he felt horrible slowing me down to a medical emergency and was going to leave/go back to work but only stayed because I told him to. He’s totally fine and even said his pizza survived!?!? I had to look again and he had a pizza box in his hands when I drove him into the wall!?!? I never saw it? Seems like it’s all good.

  44. I've never heard of one being loud. My GF had a Thule with a rocket box and it was quiet. Her current car has a factory rack with a rocket box and it is quiet. Maybe yours is on backward. Try driving in reverse at 60 mph. If it's quiet, you'll know that it's mounted backward.
