I'm in my fifth week at my new job. I am really enjoying having a job/workplace I don't hate, and I've rediscovered the joy of sleeping through the night. Stress levels are way down (...unless I watch the news). And my commute is less than 15 minutes each way! But I'm still feeling out the web policy here at work, so I haven't been around here much... In any case i have a lot to be thankful for, including all of you. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and can spend it with family and good friends. Or with good beer and football.11 points

I think you have to know what lesson your kid needs to learn and how best to teach that. A strict “they’re going to pay for their car and their insurance” approach to learn something may be wrong if they’re already a conscientious, industrious and driven person. Maybe they just need a hand to flourish, not some tough love stance.4 points

There you go...unfortunately, my friend Trude has messy family stuff going on..so my house is sanctuary.4 points

Got my own cardiologist today. Have to call for an appointment to meet the chap. But I'm his and he's mine. My cholesterol is high, my blood pressure has reached the sell point, and my stress test was positive. My functional capacity was excellent. My wild ass guess is that a high functional capacity, high BP, and some stress irregularities is what leads to the healthy athlete having his heart explode. So I guess I'm going meet my cardiologist ?♂️ going down new roads....4 points

I love that Thanksgiving is dedicated to eating with family and friends. Share the bounty as it were. It's kind of turned into the starting gate of shopping season, but I ignore that.4 points

There is really no contest. Juicy and tasty versus white and dry. Thank goodness so many people like white meat!3 points

she left work to go drop her kid off at school. She should have been right back. She was gone a long time. We heard that there was a horrific crash on the same road that our clinic was on. I tried to call her phone. No answer. The cops called me back from her phone. She was on her way to the trauma center. She is such a fun kid. 21 years old. So freaking cute. Very fun to work with. Broken neck, lacerated liver and 2 broken ribs. Ejected from her car. Thank god she should probably be OK. Another co-worked is young as well. Has a husband that was complaining of back pain. It was chalked up to him working a hard job. After a few months they finally had imaging done and he's got a huge tumor in his back. He just had a port placed and will be starting intensive inpatient chemo. He's under 30. It don't look good. And finally there is a young coach at a local high school. His team was playing in regionals. Had a stroke during the game. He was just an organ donor. Most of Emmy's coaches on her last softball team worked at his school and coached with him. He was in his early 40's. These events have all transpired just this week. I am just telling you guys this to ask you to live in the moment this weekend. Be aware of your family and friends that you interact with. Have a great thanksgiving and try to enjoy it as though it could be your last. Because you never know. Have a great weekend.3 points

Braving is right. It’s already started with a gentle nudge toward my MiL that those newly out of dental school “just want employment” instead of taking on a dental building because they’re carrying huge amount of debt. Can’t fault a freshly graduated dentist for looking for a situation instead of looking to start a business.3 points

He works full time for very little pay as he is an intern at a school for kids on the spectrum or with other needs. Half of his work day is unpaid. They are paying for him to become a registered behavioral technician and once he is certified he should go full time. He will pay the truck payment and gas. We will cover insurance.3 points

I have tried (and been successful the last few years) in limiting myself to one moderately full plate of the foods I really like and then stopping. We usually do desserts in the evening and I fight off the temptation to try everything. I usually will do 2 half pieces of pie and walk away. I succeed by telling myself that there will always be leftovers.3 points

I hear ya. But like my daughter for instance. I want her to focus on softball and grades. Focus on what's going to get you into college. I understand the struggle to work a shitty job for shitty pay is part of the process, but I feel like grinding away at softball with the hope of playing at a collegiate level for money is kinda like grinding at a shitty job. As long as you are grinding. And I don't really want her to be unsafe in some 1500 dollar POS car.3 points

As it is just So7 and I, I am skipping mashed this year and making tater tot casserole. Bake tots to crispy, toss with freshly shredded cheddar and crispy bacon bits. Top with more cheese and crispy jalapeños. I found them in the salad dressing aisle at Wegmans; they’re like the onion strings but more better.3 points

Surgery went well. They installed a rod the length of the femur, two small incisions, no problem with bleeding (he’s on blood thinner meds). His pain is reduced and he was feeling much better today. He’s definitely the type who wants to win at rehab.3 points

Schwalbe Jumbo Jim 26 x 4.00 tires for my Mukluk. The old tires weren't considered tubeless ready and the rear one burped too often when bikejoring with the dogs. With 2 dogs I do get a lot of side force on the rear. Hope these work better on the Sun-ringle Mulefoot rims. They came recommended by the shop and many others. @dennis I know it is late now. Purchase already made but I'm now asking the pro.2 points

I go to Trader Joe's and buy frozen mashed potatoes. Then I heat them up and eat them, adding Bisto and usually boiled corn. I know you bastards will about have a heart attack over that, but screw you. It is easy and not much mess.2 points
