  2. I would name it "Church." That way if I got caught sneaking out of the house to go fishing, I could say I was just going to church

  3. home safely. The closer we got to home the better the roads. @Randomguy, lessons learned and we saw friends. All in all not worth the hassle this weekend. Time to focus on training for a bit not competing.

  10. We named our first boat Roubaix. I plan to rechristen our current boat Roubaix Tuesday, as a play on our love of professional cycling, The Rolling Stones and the theme of two.

  11. You need to keep up with the story. He went back to move LAJ into a personal care home. He did that on Saturday and he is driving back to Va. later today. There goes his weekend, it’s what you do for family even when they don’t deserve it.

  13. About $100. It may have been a little high but I was able to ensure my furnace is running full strength. I learned why I will have to replace my air conditioner if I ever want to have it working again. I learned why my furnace is blowing out max capacity even though it doesn't feel like it. I learned why electric furnaces don't really have expiration dates. I learned why it's a good idea to vacuum out the dust after about 50 years. I learned why my electronic air filter isn't operating and what I need to do to get it working again. And the guy was able to identify the size and power of my heater, so that if I ever have to, I can replace the elements on my own. Plus, I am now able to show that it had been serviced so if and when I sell this place, I have documentation to indicate the last time it was serviced. He also agreed that even if I had a gas furnace (not possible since I don't have access to natural gas) or a heat pump installed, I wouldn't beat my current annual operating costs using my pellet stove and/or wood stove. That was worth $100, right? Asking for my wife.

  16. Could you turn some family members into outsized / semi-parody TV characters? I could....we're on surface a fairly "conservative" like family: My mother, the picture bride who yelled at her 6 children various times to get stuff done. Imagine her standing on front steps on a hot, summer day, and yelling down the street in Chinese, one of our names to come home. My father, super hard working restaurant cook all his life..get his eldest kids, to read the encyclopedia. We were learning English at same time. I was reading "classic" novels waaaaaay beyond my reading level, like 5 levels. I never started with picture book stage. Didn't understand 1/2 of what I read. But did become a bookworm after got my own book selection. A romance-comedy writing niece, who was a geological engineer (she does have a degree in that), for marketing her latest novel, the blurb begins: Amber Wong has landed her dream job at the Stratford Festival, and life is looking good. Sure, she hasn’t had sex in so long that her condoms have expired, but she’ll just pick up some new ones, along with some discounted Christmas chocolate, at the grocery store.

  20. Driving back today. Snow flurries but no accumulation. Tailwinds the whole way. Dinner last night at Janet and Silent Doug’s. LAJ and Ken (Daddy Warbucks) were there too. A lot of blah blah blah. I’m glad we stayed at a hotel last night. We all slept well.

  22. Fairfax VA to Fairfield OH. 270-70-68-79-70-71. The alternative is the PA Turnpike and I’m not doing that, 68 is an easier route. The sleet didn’t start until we got on 79 in Morgantown. Sketchy all the way to Washington PA. Wipers were icing up and 45 was the top speed. In Washington it had turned to snow but west of there it went back to sleet. But we made it. Took 11 hours. We just finished moving and I’m beat.

  24. We have a new groovy store opening tomorrow. I got a ticket to go to the preview for a private shopping experience and a chance to win free groceries. I am not so sure they will get my ongoing support, cause an existing regionally owned store is already our main place to shop. Anyway, I hope to win some stuff. Wish we luck.

  26. I have not named either canoe...., if it was a boat big enough to name, I would probably name it Surface Interval because I would use it for the surface interval between dives

  31. Salt is a necessary ingredient in some foods (bread) and overused in others (processed). I cut back on salt intake about ten years ago so I wouldn’t have to go cold turkey when I got older. It sure if it helps or not, but I believe it’s better for long term health. Don’t miss it and can tell when it’s overused.
