  1. Picked her up this afternoon. She was a bit stressed on the car ride home. Took a 2 hour nap on the porch. Then we got out in the grass to play. Then dinner. Breeder said a full cup. That is what our full grown Golden's got. So I was sceptical. I put down 3/4 cup and she ate it right down. I'll let you know how 2:00 am potty is.

  4. And I think you got the name right! So for those that are search challenged Eos is the Greek goddess of the dawn. So I chose Greek name because WoScrapr always wanted to go to Greece. Her bestie was in Greece when WoScrapr passed. We were hoping to be on that trip. She wanted to go there on our honeymoon. Travel was a lot harder then so we went to the Caribbean. We always thought we had time so Greece kept getting pushed off. Dawn because it's the start of a new life for me & Eos. One without WoScrapr. WoScrapr was the dog whisperer. She truly communicated w/dogs. She would be in her element w/Eos. Complaining...but happy

  5. The news has been almost too good to be true, so we're all probably more nervous than if tough old Aunt Sally was struggling with her coronavirus and head injury. On Monday my Aunt Sally was confirmed to have COVID-19 and later that morning fell, hit her head bad, and was rushed to the hospital. It was determined there was no significant damage from the fall (there was severe bruising around the temple her daughter said was hard to look at) and the doctors sent her back to the nursing home. It was estimated she had had COVID-19 for about two weeks but was showing no symptoms - otherwise she'd have been kept in the hospital. Through all this, she's been in pretty good spirits. A couple days ago, she developed a slight fever that quickly went away, but her blood oxygen had fallen to 84% of normal so she was put on oxygen. Thurs, AM, she was doing better and they lowered the amount of oxygen she was being given. Today my cousin, her daughter, reported: "So I wake up everyday scared until I get a report. Better news again today. They were able to lower the oxygen again and she is maintaining 95 [% of normal blood oxygen concentration] at the lower [supplied oxygen] level. No fever or congestion. Blood work up all ok. Yesterday was last of the zpack [antibiotics] but the effects linger 15.5 days so that’s also good. We have her on soft foods, ensure plus and electrolytes liquid as well as zinc and vitamin C. Your [entire family & friends] prayers are working so please keep them up. We have quite a way to go and it can turn on a dime. God bless. Thank you." Aunt Sally will be 100 on August 1. A large hall has been rented for a super party we hope will occur! My 5 year-old nephew Ryan helps his Great Aunt Sally celebrate her 86th birthday a few weeks early at a 2006 Family Reunion at a Virginia relative's home. 2nd pic is Aunt Sally a few weeks ago on St. Patrick's Day:

  10. The dark one is her going to bed in her crate. I put the crate next to the bed w the door open so she could go in & out. She slept about an hour in her crate then slept on the bed. She went out at 10. Then I took her out at 5 am. So I thought that was pretty good Next one I'm on the porch and she is at my feet. Typical Golden. It took me a year to get used to our first being underfoot. Now I can't imagine not

  20. Pack of cigarettes cost 0.25, watching black and white tv at the neighbors, seeing my dad looking out the window, wondering what the heck, when the ship exploded at Texas City, and times when we could run and play in daylight and dark in the neighborhood and the folks did not have to worry about our safety.

  24. I don’t use cash often, but it did today. I received a 1981 quarter as change. My first thought was that when that quarter was minted, a full sized candy bar cost a quarter. I also remember when the price was raised to 35 cents.

  25. So...I am making spaghetti sauce and meatballs the way my mom did (per some of her Italian friends and coworkers)..slow cooking a meatball mix of beef & pork, onion, breadcrumbs, parmesan and an egg..meatballs cooked in the sauce. I rarely do this cos it make a bunch and way too much nightshades for me but..with snow and cool temps next week..and a couple of meals stashed in the freezer..hey

  26. So, I ran the dishwasher, tossed some papers, worked on cleaning off my table and even took a stab at writing something for our church publication. Had some tea..I am watching cooking shows and a Robin who is nesting on top of my AC unit..I am thinking a good wind might change that plan... So now I am thinking an omelet with roasted asparagus . Maybe soon.

  27. At the forge if we wanted to wear a mask they would buy us any kind we wanted but we couldn’t have a beard and we had to go to the hospital for pulmonary testing because masks make it harder to breath and they needed to know our lung function was ok. I worked night shift, if I wanted a mask I just went to the storeroom and got one. Night shift has their own rules. Even with a beard the mask was filtering most of the graphite because it turned black.

  37. When I taught gifted and talented high school kids up to 2006, it was clear to me that they were as bright and better prepared in math and science than kids from my Class of 68 were and I could hold them to a higher standard in Chemistry and Physics. But they knew about so little else, part of which is due to the elimination of Geography and other elective classes in middle and high schools, and part because No Child Left Behind changed the teaching culture from one of teaching kids how to think to teaching kids how to do rote things and answer multiple choice questions. When I co-wrote the Physics Semester Exams for our county's 12 high schools, the authorities at the Board of Ed wanted us to change a problem where the kids had to realize they needed to use the "Mirror Equation," 1/f = 1/i + 1/o, and THINK about what i (image distance) and o (object diestance) were from the wording of the problem and calculare f, the focal length. The replacement problem was to be a multiple choice questions: "A concave lens tends to a) reduce (right answer), b) magnify, c) distort, d) lighten." - middle school level question! The new national tests to prove your school met the requirements of No Child Left Behind had THOSE kind of questions - there was no reason to teach kids to think! And, since they didn't think very deeply, it was SO much fun and SO easy to thoroughly mislead them! For example, we had a teacher named Barry Roman (now unfortunately deceased) who bore a striking resemblance to actor Wayne Knight who, at the time, was playing Newman, the Post Office employee, on Seinfeld. The picture below of Knight could pass for one of Roman. So I told the students that our Mr. Roman used to work for the Post Office and that he knew Jerry Seinfeld. The kids knew Roman was from New York and looked at me skeptically but plausibly. So I had to come up with the clincher. I told them that when Seinfeld was putting his show together, he wanted Mr. Roman's character in it. But, I said, he couldn't use Mr. Roman's name or he'd have to pay him a royalty for doing it. He needed a NEW name. Not Roman but what? NEWman! The kids bought it hook, line, and sinker. The story spread through the 2900 student body like wildfire. Roman would be walking down the halls between classes and some kid would call out, "Hey Newman!" I'd quickly duck back into my classroom and other teachers, knowing my practical joke nature, would follow me in and ask, "What did you do?" I just shrugged my shoulders.
