  1. I plan to start cycling again this summer. Thus, I purchased some new tires, Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700c Tire (HS 440) Black/Reflective - 700c x 28mm. I currently have Jack Browns on the front and rear, but it seems there may be some rub on the fork, as these are 700x33.1mm and high profile tires. I noticed this the last time I rode the bicycle. Thus, these new tires are for the front, and I'll keep the Jack Browns for the rear. This is the last bicycle that Mike DeSalvo built for me several years ago. I also have a new saddle that I bought several years ago, and hope it will be nice and comfy. I'll see if I can find a photo of the bike the last time I rode it several years ago. I've also taken the cages off of the pedals.

  2. I’m sitting outside and can smell weed. Somebody across the fence is having a wake and bake. Sunrise photo.

  3. I now have a single hung window in my loft. After trying to sleep in there when the daytime temps had risen to 90°, I decided the time is now! BTW, frost advisory tonight; I'll have the heat on.

  4. I took a walk to the farmers market today, and got there a little after 1:00. Unbeknownst to me, it was set to close at 2:00 (they used to stay open until 5:00 before the pandemic), it seems that nobody wants to ride the subway to get there, it has always been the biggest and best of the farmers markets in NYC. Having to close early says something. Anyway, the stands had started to either pack up or offer some really good bargains to unload what they had left. I needed lettuce, and stopped and talked to a farmer dude about the lettuce and the price being good (last year it was $4/head, today marked at three, and since they were closing soon, $2/head), and he said right now that they can't sell all they grow, so they sell what they can, give some to food banks, and feed their animals with the excess. I said I bet the pricing helps for a lot of folks now, and asked if he could fill my backpack for $5. He said "Sure, what do you want?" Yay! I thought he would counter with a higher offer, but didn't expect and an outright yes. I brought a big backpack, so now I have two huge heads of beautiful red butterhead lettuce and 5 small heads of romaine, 4 green and one red. I am eating salad every meal for the next few days, looks like! I also got a deal on farmers cheese and Fuji apples, but the lettuce was the big score. I am gonna need to make some dressing!

  5. After dinner we went down to Newport Beach to take the dogs for a walk. As we’re driving back we see a group of people already crossing in a cross walk heading our way from the other side of the street. So I slow & stop so they can continue to cross. Behind me 2-3 cars also stop but in the lane to my right I see a car coming at well over 40 MPH (25mph speed limit!). Based on the cars speed I know they are on a collision course and the pedestrians can’t see the car coming yet. I lay on my horn and hold my hand up in a stop motion. The three in back see me but the lead girl doesn’t look at me and fortunately one of the guys grabs her & pulls her back just as the car zooms through the crosswalk missing her by inches, maybe even brushed her! The group of pedestrians is stunned, I have that oh shit that was close look and they all thank me & cross. Freaking close one!

  6. The old version from the 1970's with Jack Narz - before Alex Trebek. Some of the prizes aren't so great. A lady just won some macaroni and plant food. These were simpler times.

  7. Bend was always WoScrapr zen place. She would spend all summer here. She even got pretty decent at driving in the snow. Bend gets "some" snow but mostly it stays up in the mountains. I'm going to move back to Portland area. I have more support there. I can go into the office & hang out. BS with everybody. Meet up w/long time friends (>25 years) I wanted one more summer here in Bend. Lots of bike riding. Sitting by the fire pit. I wasn't going to make any big decision for a year after WoScrapr passed. It's just been a year. And will be 2 years by the time I sell the house. That is going to gut me

  12. Creepers.... for sure I plan to get something not like hippie 1970's wine glasses. When I saw those styles at the vinologist office...I felt jaded and old. The other stuff I saw was highly conservative and boring. Besides I look terrible drinking from black full rimmed glasses.

  14. State Farm has agreed to pay $23,000 more to rebuild my house than my house (alone without the property) would have sold for before the fire, so I'm basically happy. That plus the excellent compensation (new, not depreciated) price for the piano, clothes, tools, furniture, etc. destroyed inside made my doctor say he's now thinking of setting his old house on fire. The builder and case manager are going to look over all the 164 pages of the assessment and haggle over anything that looks wrong. A lot looks more than right. For example, State Farm is paying to improve the forced-air furnace ductwork to better than before - up to current code - throughout the first floor, 2nd floor, and basement. Because of that, it won't cost much more for me to add and pay for central air conditioning, which I didn't have before. There are a number of things I'm adding, (dishwasher, garbage disposal, better stove, fridge/freezer, washer, dryer, and more). There is also an old, falling-apart backyard screenhouse they will tear down and haul away for me. In the corner of the backyard, years ago we had a 13' x 12' concrete slab poured when a neighbor's new driveway didn't need all the concrete in the cement truck. I've already got the plans, materials list, and instructions to build several styles of a new shed (I'm leaning toward one similar to the gabled roof one at the bottom) there next year, maybe 10'x 9', leaving a 3' buffer with the neighbors' fences. I was able to save most of my mother's excellent doll collection and dropped it off at my sister's today after giving one piece to a neighbor who wanted anything of my mother's from the house. The rough estimate on completion of the rebuild is Jan. 1, though I expect more like Feb.1 to Mar. 1. At least things are now rolling along. Meanwhile, State Farm will continue to pay the rent on my luxury apartment.

  20. Ewe all might not know this but I really do love each and everyone of Ewe, even Wilbur --even though he's Canadian bacon you know. With all the ass looting, virus and all around shitty atmosphere I'm not just worried about the future of my family and I'm worried about everyone's future. The switch finally flipped a few days ago and I feel good in a kilt. I may sound like war but it is just snorts. I don't know how to fix this. I don't know what is going to happen. I practise safe sex and mark the ones that kick. Butt has been my thing much longer before the lock downs, the senseless vegetable killing over the past month and the virus outbreak. I do fear the chaos for carrots is going to continue for awhile however -- this isn't going to stop any time soon in my opinion. I just like ewe too much. Vegetables, not so much. Stop killing them. Vegans should all die. Here is what I'm going to try to do, specifically, hear. I like the sound of ewe, you see. I'm going to try to be nicer to sheeple here -- don't worry, I'll still josh with RG, Wilbur and AWWC and I'm also going to do my best to attempt to underhand a ewe now and then. I also like view outside the wool better. I'll probably fail, I always do but I'm hopeful I will be mindful enough to learn from those mistakes. All of this is hard and there is only one way to fix that. Come here sheepie! This will cause chaos outside of my apartment and house. Anyway, the first person who successfully parodies this thread, using Kzoo's parady meter, wins a cookie. I love you all and stay safe. Couch_Incident

  32. Now this is brainless fun. They just dragged an old Pacer (try an find a new Pacer) out of a junkyard, put 4 wheel drive gear and big tires under it. Then went and drove it. It didn't drive for shit on the road, the steering wheel was visibly shaking, but then they got to the dirt. Drove that sucker up a big ass rock pile, went pretty damn nice, and made it. Now this was redneck engineering, and no consideration of looks, a sawzall and sledge hammer did the fine tuning for the wheel clearance. the suspension was held up where it looked good and wire feed welded. I don't know how much went on off camera but it was fun to watch.

  38. Broke the bone in the outside of my hand a few years ago while working sheep. I was too old and the bone was too far off alignment to just set the break, so they lined them up and pinned them together. Removal of the pin was the most severe pain, I've endured other than a gall bladder attack. Figured I could work on building that bike with the cast, and it worked. That photo may have been the first ride, as I took it to the LBS to show the owner.

  40. Reminds me of the old joke about the guy opens his fridge and finds a bunny wabbit in it. The guy asks the wabbit what he’s doing in his fridge. The wabbit says “This is a Westinghouse isn’t it? Well I’m westing.”

  42. The distillery in the next county had a sausage maker serving brats and sausages tonight. Food must be served for alcoholic establishments to open. It was our first meal away from the house since everything was shut down. Cheap meal, but it felt good to be out! Bought a bottle of gin for G&T on the patio. On the way home with the Miata, we took a slight detour to another small town with an ice cream shop. We had to eat it in the car, but I won’t complain!
