  5. That is, as I was rolling around on the ground holding on to a ewe yesterday, so my wife could drench her. That part was not too bad, until the other sheep in the holding pen decided to start jumping over us, and some stepping on me in the process. It could have been worse with bigger critters. I did not say anything to my wife until I returned from the market in Billings last night. I commented that I thought it was pretty good that she did not start laughing as I was getting run over and losing my cap. She replied that she was too busy taking photos with her phone. Ha! Ha! She doesn't even carry a phone. We sold another dozen critters.

  6. I've been wearing Flexon type metal frames for years. You can see better if you remove all the labels, kind a like how you can hear better, when you remove the plastic cover from the ear piece on your cell phone.Damn Aggies!!

  11. Damn betcha!! Only thing that works for us with 'long' eye lashes that work in dusty conditions. Sometimes have to wait a little longer, but worth the wait for me. Got tired of trying to explain how the plastic lens was scratched and listening to them tell me I did not know how to clean them. I have even less patience for that type of discussion at my current age.

  17. The grape vines were mostly brown, except for a string or two were still green and shiny. Went down today on a seek and destroy mission, found a couple vines still connected to dirt. Not anymore. A few hours later they are all withering

  19. We went out for a short ride as the weather showed an hour plus break between any chances for rain. At nine miles out we made the turn for home. Its seven miles from that point home. Both our phones started blaring. It was a tornado warning. It was dark to the northwest but some sun towards home. The dark clouds caught us halfway home. Put the bikes aeay and the skies opened up. No tornado.😎

  24. Right now I use the Garmin Edge 25. It is 6 years old and still works fine. This issue is my wifes old one has crapped out and she wants my Edge25 and told me to upgrade. I love that woman.

  26. I am going to second the Garmin Edge. I got mine earlier this year. The basic computer functions are there. I like the ability to upload a route and have turn by turn directions. I forget what they call it, but the thing that tells you how much further you have to climb a hill is pretty cool too. The live track feature is great if you have a paranoid significant other.

  28. There are some really great head mounted hoods available these days. The better ones have led lights built in and replaceable lenses with +corrections available for those who need reading glasses. The various lenses can be flipped down in front of you face or out of the way. I wouldn't be doing any of my work in the secret lab without them.

  30. Long time Garmin user here. After much hemming and hawing, I decided to go with a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt this time. The ease of setup was what finally sold me. Just pair it with your phone and configure it on the phone. Add, delete and drag and drop. The good: Easy setup, as promised. When you first pair, a QR code shows up on the screen, you point your phone at it and boom, done. If you want to add, delete or rearrange data fields - piece o cake. Takes all of about thirty seconds. Fairly visible, even in bright sunlight. (On the “out front” mount it’s never a problem, but I put the included stem mount on my other bike and sometimes it’s a PITA to see- angled slightly up that way, theres a slight glare). The “zoom” feature. This allows you to have a bunch of data fields on the screen, yet “zoom” in on several or one. (I have stuff in the bottom two rows -like “time of day” and “battery level” that I don’t want to see all the time and zoom out to see them if I want. The rest of the time, I have the top three rows in view -and embiggened). Seems to synch with Komoot, Spam My Inbox -er- Map My Ride and Strava...dunno, don’t really use those things. The Notifications seem to work well, although I have them turned off for pretty much everyone, TYVM. Seems to be rain resistant. Pairs up with Di2 buttons in the brake hoods quite well. I’ve been using them in the default “page” and “lap” button modes. Not sure about changing the functions. Di2 gear display works as advertised. Neutral: I have yet to use it for turn-by-turn so I can’t comment on how well that works - or doesn’t. The included phone app shows whatever metrics you want, well enough, but FauxTour wannabes will probably want to use a more in-depth app. No idea how it works with their trainers or any external add-ons like HR straps or cadence sensors. Haven’t used any of the training programs. It’s aero! 🙄 The not-so-good: Battery life. For me, it seems like it drops 1% per mile. Most of the time, it’s just an annoyance to have to plug it in to charge way more often than my Garmins, but if you need turn cues for a ride that’s over 100 miles, you’re probably pooched. It won’t show Di2 battery level. You can get that info, but have to go into the setup screen. You can’t have it as a data field. Dumb. The LEDs across the top are worthless in bright sun...or candlelight, for that matter. The Bad: Live Tracking. I have it setup to automagically email The Better Half a live link, when I start a ride. (You can text a link too, but it won’t do that automatically). It used to work perfectly, but now, for some reason, it decided it doesn’t want to anymore. It’s checked in Setup, and the email address is there and correct. You can only view your data on the native app, on your phone. If you want to look at it on a bigger screen, like a tablet, you can’t just download a copy of the app and synch the data. If you want to look at it on a tablet, you’ll need one of the third party apps like Komoot or whatever. After a year and a half of working well, it has spontaneously decided it doesn’t like my phone. Several times, I’ve had to unpair the Wahoo and my phone and re-pair them. The data is there and will synch up fine afterward, but it’s pretty damned annoying. I think they broke something in an update. Support said “yeah, it’s a known issue....” That was a month ago. 😡 Up until it started acting up, I would have said “Yeah, if you want a fairly basic unit, this is a viable choice...” But synching your data is pretty basic functionality and if it won’t even do that, the rest of the features it has or doesn’t have are ear elephant. I think I’m going back to Garmin, next time. There have been things about Garmin that have made me rage pretty hard, too, but they’ve always been resolved fairly quickly. https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-computers

  34. Metric century, century or multi day rides or runs of greater than 1/2 marathon, I use Tailwinds Endurance Fuel. Often the caffeinated Raspberry buzz in the last few hours but otherwise the regular stuff. I have difficulty eating food during long periods of exercise but tolerate Tailwinds quite well. (And it doesn't taste sweet. Too sweet makes me feel like gagging.)

  36. "Urban Dictionary's top entry for bougie defines it thus: “Aspiring to be a higher class than one is. Derived from bourgeois - meaning middle/upper class, traditionally despised by communists.” So in modern-day English, someone who is bougie is creating an air of wealth or upper class status — whether it's true or not."

  37. I was putting on one of my TwinSix bike jerseys the other day, and I smiled (like I always do) when I noticed anew the small details that they have hidden where only the owner will notice. Top pic is the back center pocket, but if you have the jersey inside out (bottom pic), you see the note they have written on the inside of the pocket

  38. BTW, what would it be replacing? I've had Garmins for years (since 2007), and while they are great computers, they do eventually go kaput! Usually it's just the battery not charging as effectively, but 10 years would be a stretch for lifespan. I'd say it's a "how often do you ride and for what purpose". There are a lot of power tools I'd love to add to my tool collection, but just can't justify on a "per use" basis. As home improvement projects pop up, I get to re-evaluate, but "because I want one" rarely is the only reason I get a new tool.

  43. Same. I set it up so it just displays speed & distance. It has more functionality than I need but I like that I can pop it on my road, cross & MTB. I have also had good luck with Cat Eye wireless computers and my wife’s is still going strong after several years.

  44. 47@16.9. Wind wasn’t quite as forecast, nor were the clouds. The rain missed us. The cloud cover made for a comfortable return trip even if the wind wasn’t in my favor. Took the Miata out this afternoon to recon the course for the sprint triathlon next Saturday in a neighboring city. Beautiful weather for the drive. We are now at our favorite brewery down there for 1 or 2.

  45. I've been a desert-rat all of my life, so I'm used to it. The day it 122F here back in 1990 I was commuting by bike. I rode home at the peak time. It was 130+ over the pavement. The secret is to keep hydrated and don't stop moving. The faster you go, the more breeze you create, the more your sweat evaporates and cools you. I'll bike when it's like this, but no walking. You can't get enough air movement to aid cooling.
