  1. mr. and I celebrated 28 years together this past Saturday. But, I almost took out a lease on an apartment last week Monday, I was so done with being called mentally ill in various ways. But, that argument faded and then passed. It’s complicated. We’re going forward with kitchen remodel plans. Living year 29 together.

  5. I was over at a friend’s house tonight. He has a ridiculous hi-fi system and just bought some new vinyl (Shostakovich). Vinyl really does sound better. Tonight got me wanting to build a good sound system again. It’s a hobby I could enjoy well into my feeble years.

  11. I just learned I can program my garage door to open or close automagically using my cell phone. If it stays open longer than an hour, it will close automagically. After 10pm it will close automagically if someone leaves it open. I am happy.

  13. I had one decide chimney would be ideal. Damn squatters! Damper is stuck so doesn't fully close. Tried to chase whatever was creating the racket out lighting a couple of sheets of newspaper but undeterred by the hot air blast and smoke. Tried to fully close the damper and jumped down but contained by the screen. Opened the front door, closing other doors and chased out with a broom. Quick trip to Home Depot for some 1/2" galvanized screen, making a custom 18x18x3 inch insert for the chimney cap fit over the actual chimney. That was my weekend accomplishment.

  29. I love my Klipsch speakers (cherry) in my surround sound system. If I was going to build a hi-fi stereo system, I'd probably buy Klipschorn speakers I'v always wanted a pair. But I'd need to build a new home for the proper room for the speakers. And that will never happen.

  30. The big thing in Maryland is not the 1000 footer freighters - though they're cool: I worked in a Baltimore shipyard during a college summer. You can get lost in them and climbing the gangplank is a scary thrill! Thousands go out into the Bay in boats or on shore to see the Tall Ships: 1800's-style ships with tall masts and sails. Baltimore is a stop in the Round the World and Atlantic races and many countries have goodwill ships with tall masts and sails that dock at Baltimore's Inner Harbor and you can do a tour. We also have the controversially called "Oldest Ship in the Navy," the USS Constellation at the Inner Harbor. You can do a tour of her, too and maybe see a ghost! One late evening, a Catholic Priest boarded the Constellation. A man dressed in an early-1800's U.S. sailor's uniform met the Priest and began to give him a guided tour. They went below deck and the sailor pointed out various things, including holes that he said once held the hooks where they hung their hammocks when they went to sleep. The Priest made his way back to the top deck. He told an official there, "That was a great, informative tour the guy dressed like a sailor gave!" The official said, "Father, you were the only person below decks. We have no guy dressed as a sailor." They went below and could not find the guy. The reason for the holes (that held hammock hooks) had not been known before the Priest told his story!

  32. Mental health seems to not give a darn about stuff like that. Hopefully he never faces mental health issues, but all the "smarts" in the world are little help against a wide variety of mental health disorders.

  33. From what I understand, there is no reason to ever pay cash if you can finance for 0%. It used to be, with cash, you got the best deal. That's no longer the case, as car companies and dealers are now tied up in all sorts of incentives and financing, such that mentioning "cash" can actually hurt rather than help get you a deal. The seeming best and only way to buy a car now is to walk in, select the vehicle, and get them to give you their "final" out-the-door price. You can haggle that down, shop it to other dealers, whatever, but that is the NUMBER period. When you move to the payment step, 0% on that number is what you get, and basically, that frees your $$$ up for growth the length of time you decide to pay it off. If you have the cash to buy outright, you have no worry that you will ever pay interest. Also even in savings, 30k or 40k makes more over six years at 1% than it would not being in your savings account. Add in, for many folks, 6 years is a THIRD or less of their car's life as opposed to the FULL life of some cars from decades ago. We're past 17yrs on both cars
