  2. She is 49; I am 47. Married sixteen years; no children. Not many people go back this far, but back in 2003, the year we got engaged, I hosted (from "that other magazine forum") a Forum Ride metric century here in my area. Quite a number from that era showed up, I rented a pavilion at a park here and then-FoHB (or FoLoneWolf if you want to use my old handle) brought in burgers, dogs, and veggie burgers for grilling at the end of the day. Names like ShinyBaldy and Little500Grl were seen partaking; I think our farthest-away participant that came was probably Nebraska (as Kzoo, RG, Bikeman564, Petite, and some others who have met me know, I hail from Michigan). I was 29 at the time. 2003 was perhaps one of the best years of my life; I rode 2,100 miles that year, and I hadn't even gone on to do RAGBRAI four times ('06, '08, '09, '10) yet. The word "cancer" entered our vernacular September 16th for the first time. WoHB had only been feeling poorly for two weeks when we found out. Even then, blood tests weren't off enough to show it; WoHB's family history (which also prompted a personal fear of it) led to further testing. She has always had the regular checks, including regular comprehensive mammograms for just this reason; pancreatic cancer, however, was the furthest from our minds or even imaginations. I need hope, so I can give her hope. That's in incredibly short supply right now.

  3. ...even I am smart enough to know this translates out to, "Sure, paint the god damn thing whatever color you want. But don't expect any help from me."

  5. When I was a child, my family would travel between the eastern shore of Maryland and Washington County Maryland ( more specifically the greater Hagerstown Area.) I remember going in our family station wagon And once in my dad’s hot rod Lincoln with suicide doors. Many of you blame Einstein for my interest in cars but I really got it from my dad and his constant car projects. Whichever kids were going would jump in and claim their spot. As a little kid I did like sleeping in the convertible boot if we were taking a convertible and the top was up. Those were the good old days — kids stashed everywhere. This was in the days when there was only one Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It didn’t matter too much for us because we left the shore on Friday night so were going against the traffic. Harbor tunnel was always iffy and depended on the time of day. I remember when they put in the new road with a three high bridge that made getting around Baltimore so much easier. Because we kids were not all staring at screens we played game like watching to find the three high bridge and singing a little ditty about it. Mom would give the winner a piece of candy she dug out from her carpet bag. I got a bank lollipop once as the winner. I tried to make that thing last forever to tease my brothers. To be continued.

  6. Thank you. Our hospice nurse says she looks better every day. Few people escape Hospice but we are hanging in there. We don’t know why her legs quit working. If I could fix her with nitrile gloves I’d be all set.

  7. Not really ready in just a few minutes. It has taken almost 3 hours to get ready. Salad, green peas, corn on the cob, mashed potato all on the side. This is one of my favorite meals and especially since the chicken was $0.77 per pound. Mmmmmmm.

  8. Already quit Orange Theory. Still trying to quit Boston Sports Club - they won't respond to email. That will leave me for the first time in at least 10 years without a gym. I'm OK with that.

  15. Emergency Vet! Eos was chewing (like usual) on a stick and got a piece down her throat. She was mouthing & coughing trying to get it out. I stuck my thumb down & got some out. But she was still mouthing. No choking though. So i ran her over to the neighborhood vet. The Tech comes out & pulls out some more. Says you may want to go to the Emergency Vet to see if there is a perforation. So we run down to our usual Emergency vet.The woman that answered (while I'm outside) was a little offended I didn't call first. She comes out to take her in & mentions 5 hour wait....which explains the half dozen people waiting in their cars in the parking lot. I had them do vitals & take a look see. Everything Ok there. I will watch her the next couple days

  16. The test results today...were not good. They were higher than before the stent placement. The trial is a no-go. The oncology team is concerned about the aggressiveness of the cancer; chemo begins Monday. We continue to covet your prayers. Thank you all. You are wonderful.

  21. Not dead yet! I did go to the ER.....The Vet Doc ER. I got Fiesta Mac n Cheese. It was decent. My friend got straight Mac n Cheese so no chance to sample up. I don't see the Fiesta Mac on the menu. It had chorizo, kale plus some more. So reading last night Vegan is no dairy....so HITH do they do cheese? I got a "Go Box" so I can see how it is on the 2nd day. I would go back & try some more

  22. None for me. I have had crazy ex gfs call my parents 15 years after I have been married trying to contact me. and I had put some pretty bad ass people away on a big file for a long time that told me they would find me when they got out, so the harder I am to find the better. My wife has fb and I creep on hers to keep up on the kid and grandkid pictures. My idea of twitter is texting my poor sister any strange and random thoughts when they pop into my head. She often recommends therapy. This is my only forum

  24. I think I picked the right time to ditch my membership and buy a home multi gym. Yesterday, the province moved to close all fitness clubs in the region (again), but I had not darkened the door since March anyway. I'm loving just going to the basement and doing my workout.

  25. I like fresh jalapeños on my pizza. Back when we used to go out my wife would always get a supreme pizza at Pizza Hut, I would get a thin crust jalapeño pizza. We would take the leftovers home. When I make pizza here at home I pick fresh jalapeños from my hanging pots either on the back deck or the spa room in winter.

  29. I have had my 1973 Capri since my Senior year of high school. WoW and I dated in it. We brought our first child home in it. It was a fun car with great memories. It got garaged about 25 years ago. I had every intention of doing a restomod with it and was well on my way until my sudden career change in 2002. Finances dried up and other life activities took precedence. It sat in the garage and became the garage equivalent of an exercise machine in most homes. I finally decided earlier this year it was time to let it go even if no one else would buy it. Today was the day. I got the car out of the garage. The front suspension was too far gone to pull safely with the tow bar so I called the salvage yard and they will be out tomorrow. I then rented a cherry picker and got the spare engines and transmissions and other parts hauled out. There were a couple pangs of sadness, but overall I have made my peace with it. The Miata now fits with room to spare. It’s not perfect after only a day, but there is now room to keep improving things. It’s been an ok day.

  30. Sorry, I don't know either of you. Tell me a little more, if you would. How old are the two of you? How long married? Children? I don't pray, but my heart aches for you.

  31. It may have been, though I'm thinking someone else, who may still be here. At the time, I was hoping to make it something annual. But people came and went, and it never materialized. Everyone said it was a beautiful route (I chose a fall color-tour route that the cycling club here uses) which even included a covered bridge that's a landmark. If I find any pictures I have, I'll post one. I did have some at the time.

  37. It is somewhere between not bad and the worst. You have to block a lot of people, else you risk getting dummer every time you check in. I believe social media is the downfall of our society, with every lunatic fringe group given equal opportunity to spread their opinions, largely unfact-checked until recently. It used to be you knew and avoided the paranoid guys with the type-written, zeroxed manifestos. Now he’s just another meme generator, flooding the collective consciousness.
