  1. It was heavy down pour off and on all day Saturday's racing. I was racing the 500 late afternoon and $350 later I had a set of full rain tires. started out kinda slow in the race but once I got used to the tires I was able to pick up the pace. I was able to run just a few seconds off of my lap times when it's dry. A few bikes crashed and I found myself in second place. In the sidecar race we were in a three way battle for 3rd place. With 2 laps to go it was a 2 way battle for 3rd. On the last lap I had a few opportunities for a pass but my 100 dollar junkyard motor didn't have enough to make the pass stick. Two turns to go I had one more shot because the final turn is in his favor because of his sidecar is a right hand chair mine is a left hand. Just couldn't make a clean pass so I backed off. If I stayed in it we would have hit each other. We ended up finishing 4th just 2 seconds behind 3rd. The first thing Wo46 said when she got off the sidecar was......That was a blast.

  3. I just gotta build!!!! I have been thinking for a while now to make a protected spot to store my propane tanks at my shed. Jumped into the project yesterday. I have a bad habit of taking home decent looking pallets from work; I used some of that wood for the build. It's not done, but I made a good start on it. Will be a double decker for two 20 pounders. Oh ya, I still have to drill a hole through the shed wall to run the hose from tank to heater.

  5. No, not my wife. The Gretel. Gretel the Orange (her Viking Princess name, I always said). Gretel, the cat. The closest thing I have ever had to an adopted daughter. Fifteen and a half years old. Found on a roadside in the rural area I worked at the time, by a high school counselor of the school I worked at, spring break of 2005. I took one look at her and knew we should take her; I didn't want her at the animal shelter. She went from a fearless kitten in our then-apartment, climbing window screens, bopping her very-large Maine Coon "brother" on the nose, then running, hiding around a corner, and then making him jump, to the house we bought months later. She grew, and then she grew bigger; I pulled out pictures tonight that made me realize she was pretty well-fed back then (she hasn't been close to that size in probably 6-7 years). She would jump into the tall, cloth-bag clothes hamper to sleep. And she would always snuggle with me, and rub the top of her head against my chin when I was on the couch to say she was happy. She long outlived her older brother. Gretel will be going to the vet Monday afternoon for the last time. She is getting weak, and cannot eat enough to sustain herself (likely intestinal lymphoma, our vet has seen the signs). Today I offered her every kind of food I thought she would eat. I put her on a blanket in the sun. She eventually stayed behind the door in WoHB's office for several hours, just sitting there; that isn't her. This was a marked downturn from even during the week; it is the right thing to do. And I am heartbroken. For I have known her a third of my life, and she is one of the few in this life that loved me without me having to do a single thing to earn it.

  6. So asked a healthy mobile woman to her presumably, hubby today? I was in the sporting goods store today. She was trying on some hiking shoes. I'm sorry...as a man I can't accept the idea that a woman would spend money and be punished for the act. Sorry, if I'm like this. My parents made sure all their daughters were capable of defending themselves or I should say more strongly, that they actually held down jobs that taught them self defense, should anything negative happen in their lives.

  11. Gentlest giant in the world. He and I were best buds. Maine Coons, unfortunately have a predisposition to cardiomyopathy; we lost him unexpectedly when a mild sedative for grooming purposes stopped his heart at the vets, years ago. The vets office was beside themselves; he was a favorite; all their attempts to resuscitate him failed. I howled and bawled like a four year old having a meltdown. This time I'm just going to sob, like I already have several times, and maybe shake my fist at an unjust world where nobody can see me and call the nice young men in their clean white coats.

  12. We have three other cats. With WoHB in her current condition, we'll likely stay with three. I should catch everyone up. Two of the others, some people may recall from the past. Yoshi the Big Siamese is another who "just loves me" and always has. Old picture, his fur is somewhat longer now, but in spite of irritable bowel disease, a loving, wonderful guy. Jack the Ginormous, who is WoHB's baby. Twenty pounds and afraid of his own shadow. Not the brightest boi either, but a lover of belly rubs, and a softie. Two years ago we lost Watson, whom we both dearly loved, due to kidney disease. He loved every human in the universe (they were all potential friends to him). Shortly before that, our shelter chanced to gain (by chance) a purebred British Shorthair; I had always wanted one. Meet Luna, aka JudgyCat. Not as affectionate, but a complete clown with resting grumpy face who is basically a food pit with paws. She has brought much levity and diva-tude to the house.

  13. Please leave it at home. I arrested and interviewed a guy who had stolen (by his count) maybe 500 purses from cars. He watches women in parking lots walk in because he said knows women always take a purse out of the house and if they walk in empty handed he knows it is in the car. Said under the seat is the first place he looks

  15. I haven't had one in years (the condo has a bunch around for decoration), but if I were going to get one, it would be shape and color. And that the stalk part is well shaped for streamers.

  16. I swear WoBG has footrests she uses and stops pedaling. (she doesn't, we have sync chain too) Especially when we are climbing a small hill (most are small here) and she can easily talk with no deep breathing. I have always gotten a much more intense workout on our tandem. It's like I've done leg presses for an hour. And.. . 3 1/2 mile hike at Catlin Park. The trails are used by horsed too. We saw 2 horses and 1 camel ride by. That was unusual. The truly amazing thing... (Parker our Jack Russel HATES other dogs, and always barks and if he could attack) Parker totally ignored the horses and camel, he just kept walking.

  23. When daughter number 2 was little, maybe four or five, she was hell bent determined to get this big pumpkin back to the car. We had the same rules as @Longjohn pick and carry. She was struggling with it with such determination. She tripped over another pumpkin in the field. That one was rotten and went squash when she hot it. I can still recall the bad smell. She was covered in rotting pumpkin slop. Her dad laughed. I took pictures. She had to ride home in just a towel. At this point, we figured she had won and I carried her pumpkin to the car.

  26. A forge hammer would work too. When I was a mechanic our service manager used to be the service manager at the Ford dealership. I was banging on a stuck brake drum on a Ford truck with a large ball peen hammer. He came over and told me that hammer was too small, he said I needed a Ford hammer to work on Fords. He went over to his tool box and brought over a hand sledge and wailed on that brake drum a couple times and it came right off.

  28. Office space, but I don't remember the business that is moving into the new building. More construction is going on across the street, as Stockman Bank bought a building and is expanding. It does look like they repaired the broken sidewalk that was the topic of more than one conversation on the forum. Progress! Progress! Progress!

  32. My Mom worked most of her life and went back to school for a graduate degree. She usually had at least one credit card and cash with her, When we were growing up, she'd do most of the grocery shopping during the week in the neighborhood and pay for that. But other than that, they did almost all their chores and errands together, and my Dad always paid. He handled most of the bills, so he'd usually be the one to pick which credit card they wanted to use (to get particular rewards) and he tended to carry more of the cash. They combined all their accounts so it was never "my money" or "your money" , but if they were together my Dad would pay.

  33. My wife asks me that all the time. All our accounts are shared and regardless of who pays it come from the same pot. She will ask if I have my wallet because she left hers home or simply it is easier for me to pull my wallet that her to root through her purse. There is no 'lack of empowerment' or 'lack of dependence' involved. It is probably 50-50 who pays when we are together

  34. I do this all the time. I pretty much leave my purse in my car. If we go in the van, my husband pays. It is way more convenient. It isn’t about how much I earn or how much he earns. It is about not caring to carry a purse with copies of the same debit and credit card he has in his wallet.

  35. ...I dropped out membership back when the pandemic first closed everything down here. I miss the lap pool, and I really enjoyed the steam room. But mostly I just upped my mileage on the bicycle until the bad smoke from the fires hit. I rode yesterday and today, because the air was good. I'm hoping for a workable vaccine in a year or two, because I still think swimming is overall good for the stuff you can't really do on a bike. Q: What do you call a triathlete who is a poor swimmer ? A: A time trial racer.

  36. I don’t know, maybe it’s just a convenience thing? My wife & I share our accounts, it really doesn’t matter from a financial stand point who pays. Sometimes she doesn’t want to carry her purse around and I’ll pay. Sometimes she can’t read the bill and doesn’t have her readers so I’ll pay. Sometimes it’s just easier for me to pull my wallet out of my pocket then hers out of her purse... She is an empowered woman who handles our financial affairs. And yet often times I “pay” for her items.

  40. 30 miles with WoJSTL on the tandem. Great weather. Unfortunately her right knee started hurting - might be tendonitis - so we cut the ride short. We won't be able to ride for the next week so hopefully it starts feeling better.
