  1. The hospice nurse and aide brought a cake and gifts and sung to my wife. They even gave her a birthday girl banner. The grandkids each made a card or a picture for nana and then they had dinner. I think it would take a long time for me to get tired of them. The boys and the youngest daughter wanted to use the hot tub and they had fun.

  3. Kirsten, WoHB (now LoneWolf) passed away this morning at 5:45AM. Last night, in a matter of two hours, a brigade of teachers from her Christian school organized, and assembled a candlelight hymn-singing vigil outside her hospice room window in the 45 degree weather. They brought a smile to her face, and a wave to them, and an attempt to sing along, and their prayers brought comfort. As I said to them, at first I asked "Lord, why are you taking her away when she's such a good person who has done so much and has much more she could do?" Then I realized --I was looking through a telescope but backward. I was attempting to look at the future, when all I was doing was making her past accomplishments look small. I turned around the telescope and looked through it properly. I saw a teacher who had been her student last night, who is teaching at her school and loves her dearly. I saw a staff that loved her so much for who she was, they would march through Hell for her if they thought it was the right thing to do. I saw Facebook messages from adults who said "Your wife taught me 5/10/15 years ago; she was my favorite, and here's why..." I got another one from a former student, now a teacher in Florida who said my wife is a role model for how she teaches and works with students today. I got ones from parents of students, past and present, who as they always have, wanted me to know what a blessing Kirsten had been for them. It gave me hope for the future, knowing the thousands of lives she really touched. And while I've changed my nick, and will grieve again, right now I realize just how much needed hope for this broken world all of that gave me. LoneWolf

  6. There is no way to say that any better. I am sorry that it happened so fast, although living in increasing pain and suffering is not preferable. As Petite said, she is at peace and I am happy so many people let you both know the impact she had on them; those she inspired will continue to inspire others and make the world a better place. You were lucky to find each other and have the time you had, and you sound like you have a good perspective about things despite how hard this must be for you right now.

  7. This whole darn world doesn't seem fair. The good ones are gone too soon & the rest of us are here to pick up the pieces. I am so very sorry for you & your family. I am sure your school family will surround you with love.

  8. I’m so sorry for your loss. Life doesn’t seem fair. That hymn sing sounded like a beautiful thing. She is in a better place but I can’t imagine your grief. Praying for Gods love to sustain you.

  11. It wasn't intentional, but I trained my dog to get up and move to the other end of the couch by saying, "You're sitting in my seat." This might be the coolest trick he has learned. Dogs are weird.

  13. Reading your words is a testament to the person Kirsten was and the gifts she gave to many. It also speaks volumes of the love you two shared- an amazing gift. Grieve today but also cherish the memories of a beautiful love story. Wishing you peace during difficult times. I don’t have any words of wisdom but William Penn echoes in my head. My recollection of his quote—They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies nor can spirits ever be divided that love and live in the same divine principle of their love and friendship. Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas They live in one another still. May your memories bring you great comfort.

  31. Hey it's your wife's car... don't go cheap. My list of what's important for a car; 1) the ability to stop, 2) the ability to steer, 3) everything else. Tires are critical for items 1 and 2 on my list. You can by new wheels in a different size, and then your selection of tires gets much better. Based on the size P185/70R14 from Tirerack.com here are some other wheel sizes that should work. I'd stop at 16 inch wheels. If the car gets driven in snow a lot, 15 inch wheels. (narrow tires are typically better on snow) My wife's 1997 Honda Prelude uses 205/50-16 tires. She loves the car. I replaced the wheels the last time and with new tires Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The car doesn't get driven in the snow. Her comment about the tires... "It's like I'm driving on rails." Lets just say she doesn't slow down much for curves.

  33. Lindy’s brother Pride is coming to visit tomorrow. We are going to train and do some video taping. Then I’ll feed some humans. Airedales will have some steak chopped in little squares, some whitefish jerky, and dehydrated sweet potatoes for training rewards. Pride’s owner is from Martha’s Vineyard and Boston but has lived in Canandaguia for years. She likes seafood. I am thinking little neck clams cooked on the grill for an appetizer while I quickly cook some pesto topped cod, rice, and veggies. Apple cobbler for dessert with caramel ice cream. hopefully the crazy Airedales will behave.

  39. I get a warm and fuzzy when I hear music from my childhood. I'm listening to 'Saturday at the 70s' now. I love driving through old fashioned Christmas Card towns, passing old country churches, old restored gas stations, etc, etc. Maybe it releases endorphins or something.

  40. My older siblings often talk about the good old days, the parties and family time together. I didn’t experience any of that, our dad died when I was young, my mom checked out emotionally after his death and my older siblings were all out of the house. My good days are now with my kids. We get together often, hang out, do fun trips together. My SIL and sons GF have joined in and have added to the family dynamic.
