  1. My cardiologist was off this week and they gave me different doctor. He went over my charts from 2005 to today and was very pleased with where I’m at now. He told me to stop taking the beta blocker, I don’t need it. My total cholesterol is down to 120, it was up to 256 when I started taking the statins. Maybe getting off those beta blockers owl feel like doing something now.

  2. After my hip surgery they had me in physical therapy four times learning how to walk and do stairs wearing only a hospital gown. Before they took me the fifth time they asked me if I would like a pair of pajama bottoms. I said “You have pajama bottoms? Why didn’t someone tell me?” The rest of the people in PT had already been mooned.

  3. I am happy to report I have beat this addiction, but I was hoarding pallets from work. Got some nice pieces, but I can now stop. Thing is, I have to store this wood now. I made these storage racks for the wood. First one took a little time , but the second one went more smoothly. The best part is I now have more floor space!

  8. With the Freestyle Libre continuous blood glucose monitor in use for 12 days, I'm learning what I can eat and not eat with my severe type-II diabetes. Compare the first pair of graphs below with the two on the bottom and it's obvious how much this new tool helps me. Things like eggs, ham and bean soup, low-carb and fibrous foods are required to be more dominant and processed foods, regular pasta, egg noodles, Bisquick, etc. need to become less dominant in my diet. I need to lose weight, so cutting back a little on portion sizes and minimizing snacks fits right in. The 24 hour periods through morning and now, my blood glucose has averaged around the mid 150's, which corresponds to an A1c of 7.0, the goal for long-term blood glucose avg. The shaded range in the graphs below, 100-160 mg/dL is the "sweet spot" that I want to be in most of the time and I've gone from being in it less than 15% of the time to more than half the time. The fact that the numbers are jumping toward 200 even with a good diet is a little worrisome - I may need to go on a low dose of long-lasting insulin if that doesn't settle down. On some other days my sugar was awfully high as shown below - some of it from experimenting to see what I can get away with. Then I decided I better get things stabilized and THEN experiment a little. I the numbers stay under 240 through the weekend and I average in the mid-100's, I'll feel confident enough to do some serious walking on some low-populated trails with Golden Doodle Jake. If my numbers go too high - around 300 - if I do a lot of exercise it can actually drive my blood sugar higher instead of using some of it up as is normal. My last blood test was the equivalent of an avg. 278 mg/dL which resulted in stronger meds plus the continous sensor.

  9. Sweetwater.com is running a contest. Winner gets everything saved to their wish list, up to $5K. So I ran around their site filling up a list full of sound equipment, instrument goodies, fun musical stuff. It was actually pretty hard to come up with enough stuff, since I stayed away from new guitars. Even after a new PA setup for the band, trying to pick only stuff that I would actually buy and use regularly. I managed to close it out at $4998.80. I guess I could add some picks or something.

  13. Good news Mick. Often times your glucose will be elevated right after a work out. My Dr said it’s your body’s fight or flight response. You know your running for fitness but your body’s chemistry is preparing you to be chased by a bear so is dumping glucose for energy. Overall you are better off working out even with the spikes as long term it will keep your glucose down.

  16. I’m glad you brought this issue to our attention. Clearly, obscurity of the IB authors has affected you deeply to have caused this outburst. So, we are appointing you to Head of the Office of Non-obscure IB Authors. I expect a full bio first thing in the IB thread every morning. Wow! How exciting. I’m looking forward to meeting each author through your work on the project.

  20. You are still learning what a good diet is. Keep working at it, you are on the right track. You couldn’t see me but I would roll my eyes when you talked about what you eat. I tried not to say anything because there were already people making suggestions and a lot of your diet is cultural. I think you grew up eating the way you do and in a lot of ways you are healthier than me.

  28. I like Razor’s posts. I can never tell when people are just having fun picking on someone and when they really don’t like someone. People have left and not come back when I thought everyone was just joking around. I always assume it’s just joking around but obviously it’s not taken that way. The only one I pick on is RG and I think he is ok with that. He sets himself up for it talking about his PRI and people going barefoot on the subway.

  34. I was thinking of designing a pallet stove that would automatically feed pallets into the stove as needed. I used to deliver to a place in NJ that had a mountain of pallets they wanted to give away. It would be neat to heat your house for free. You could probably sell the nails at a scrap yard.

  35. Has been solved. Everyone remember when the US Mint started issuing state designed quarters? They’re everywhere now and worth the same $0.25 they were worth when they were issued. Back then, my Dad thought it would be great for all the grandkids to have a set of state quarters so he started acquiring them at the credit union when the new states were issued. I don’t think any of the grandkids still have a set of state quarters but over the years Dad accumulated a big collection. I’m not talking about those books that held two quarters for each mint and state issued, I’m talking a gallon sized bucket filled with quarters. When Mom moved into assisted living and we cleaned out the apartment, the bucket of quarters could not be found. Mom blamed someone fir taking them and said that they didn’t understand the value. They’re state quarters. They’re worth something. Yeah mom they’re worth $0.25 each. Anyway, I got a call today from a friend of Mom’s who was trying to reach her and couldn’t. She explained that years ago Mom gave her a heavy Louis Vuitton bag for safekeeping. She was calling to see if Mom wanted it back since it had been years. So after work today I’m going to pick up the bucket of quarters and a Louis Vuitton bag. I’ll deposit the quarters into Mom’s credit union account and see if one of my sisters wants an uppity bag.

  36. I was wrong, it wasn’t the bucket of quarters I thought, but it was coin. The LV bag is duffel size. Weighed about 50 lbs. Rolled quarters alone was $380. She has baggies of coin. Foreign from trips to Europe, preEU. Francs, lira, Greek coins, whatever they’re called. Silver dollars, silver quarters, half dollars, wheat pennies, even a few from Chuck E Cheese. Go grandma!

  38. No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. - H.L. Mencken, Baltimore Sun A friend of mine was the purchasing agent for her company and when she went on vacation she left explanation sheets on how to fill out purchase orders. On them she wrote, "Fill in the account number you're using: for example 12345." She came back in a week and all of the orders were charged to account 12345.
