  3. I’m afraid I’m about to enter another medical ordeal. Can’t catch my breath. Woke up around 2:30. Dozed a bit from 4:30 til now. It’s not extreme but it’s not good. My cough is pretty dry and non productive. I don’t have a pulse ox meter. It was pretty bad after shoveling yesterday.

  5. That's pretty lucky you saw that. Dark water spots don't usually show up like that when you have mirrors on the ceiling.

  6. You should pick up one of those oximeters. They really help monitor your condition. I bought one to check my wife. She only has two nursing visits a week. She can go for a month without added oxygen and then out of nowhere it drops. I hook up her oxygen and it brings her right back to where it should be. In this weather her oxygen generator helps keep the room warm too. Those suckers put off a lot of heat.

  7. I offered to give my 26 yo daughter $4000 for her first house purchase. My parents gave me and her mom $2000 back in 1993. Her mom could also pitch in. As Aire mentioned yesterday house prices are modest in WNY, but Real Estate taxes are high. Starter house would be 100-120k.

  24. When my son was buying his first house he was short on his down payment. An anonymous person put a cashier’s check for the exact amount he was short in his mailbox. He hadn’t told anyone even us that he didn’t have enough money. At that time I didn’t have the money but he knew if I found out I would have borrowed the money to give him. I have always had good credit. To this day he doesn’t know where that money came from. I think it was $5,000 if I remember correctly.

  27. Winter camping is a lot of fun but can get dangerous quick if you aren't prepared properly. Being tired I felt that it would be risky to continue. It was already -5f and dropping so I thought it was time to drop out. I did hear from the others there that by the next morning it was -22f. I had gear for that and lower but I was mentally exhausted. That is when you make mistakes that are dangerous to you and others. I not only had myself to care for but 6 dogs too. It wasn't fair to endanger them or anyone who may have had to come assist.

  30. You just need to meet better women. WofZ is very much the same as I am when it comes to V-day being a non issue. If I were to come home with a $7 Valentines day card, she'd be like "Why did you waste $7 on a card?" We will go eat, not because it is Valentines, but because there is a special dinner served at our favourite restaurant that day only. We are much more likely to buy each other stuff at random times because we want to as opposed to because it is some holiday. It is not unusual for us to not even get each other presents at Christmas. Just the other day these came for me, just because she saw them and thought I would like them. (New cool cycling socks, now I need to figure out how to ride in sock feet so I can show them off)

  35. This morning I scheduled an appointment with the lawyer. No, I’m not concerned about the repairs. 1.) I had no intention to rent the house, and 2.) Clayton (my friend) is a very good carpenter, and plans to live there with his son and soon to be wife (his divorce was a while ago); the work won’t be slapdash. Clayton is that friend one is lucky to have who may as well be family. Unlike my actual siblings who live close by, he was here the night my mother passed, and here when my dad died in my arms. I would happily sell the house to him if it was not so valuable to the estate because of the frontage—thinking of my heirs. And I would happily let him build elsewhere on Springwood except that would impact my lighting bugs’ habitat—more important than my heirs, the lighting bugs can’t financially fend for themselves. Except for what lives on the back of his truck, he won’t be keeping tools or equipment here, he has a shop in town where he conducts business. He wants to live here until his son turns 18. Then his plan is to buy his own version of Springwood in the N. Georgia mountains. He does wish to live in my old house for the same reason I bought it in the first place, it abuts Springwood which, not to brag, is a gold strike for an outdoors person. Benefit to Clayton is he gets access to my land without being saddled with a mortgage. Benefits to me are I have my most trusted friend living within walking distance—getting older and living alone that is something to consider. And when he does leave, instead of a blank spot with two more pecan trees, I end up with a rental house. Downside, I don’t want to risk losing a “brother.” Financially I don’t think I’m at much risk. The lawyer says he can hammer out an iron clad lease. And while I don’t consider myself rich, I am well off enough that I don’t need the income from the rent.

  43. So this morning I am in the recliner as opposed to being in the couch/recliner..it is easier to keep pillows in place..but getting to the reclining position is harder..the buttons are only on the right side For sleep...after reclining too much the first night and ending up with a sore back...I put my yoga bolster and 4 bed pillows at an angle...made a bit of a V shape and basically plop myself in the middle..I am at an angle and well supported. I hate to give credit to my trainer..but strong abs and wicked strong legs..I do not need my upper body or arms to get out of bed or chair.

  44. Not a chance. I had to dump every last cent I had to get that house with the waterfall because some clown ran up the price in a bid war, then walked away leaving me holding the bag. I even had to agree to let them leave the compressor and all the punky fire wood. And on top of that, the day after I moved in, somebody dumped a jug of laundry soap in the koi pond and the yard was five feet deep in suds!
