  2. They've finally cleared all the trees. shrubs. etc. out of the yard so I can start with the clean slate I want. The tentative projected finish date for the house has been moved up from May-August to sometime in April. They're finally tearing down the old roof, some of the walls and working on that this week but we're supposed to have 3 days of snow, so it may take a couple weeks to complete. We finally found a good place on the first floor for the washer and dryer - which were in the basement. There's a relatively small kitchen with a 10' x 12' enclosed, unheated porch outside of it. We decided we could run a small alcove with an entrance from the kitchen through the former exterior wall to the porch -insulated from and with no entrance from the porch- and put a stackable washer/dryer in the space with enough insulation, heat from the kitchen, plumbing etc. to work fine. State Farm was going to pay $1105 to replace the wall-to-wall carpet that "allegedly" was in the living room. I don't want it: I love hardwood floors. So that money is going to pay for the dishwasher and garbage disposal I'm adding that wasn't there before. The hardwood floor called for is oak and we may go for less expensive maple (5/8 the price of oak) that still looks great on floors. State Farm is paying for oak in the living room and two bedrooms and I can apply the difference to other stuff. The sink can be up to 33", I want a single, simple sink with garbage disposal, hot/cold water, and a spray hose, not the double sink I had before. 33" seems huge. The one in my apartment is 21" and seems big enough. I have time to check out Home Depot, Lowes, etc. We tentatively decided on a marble (5 choices from muted to bold swirls in it) formica countertop. We'll look also at granite. We liked gray cabinets better than wood grain. My sister will pick out the floor color - probably solid - after she can compare the choices with the counter/cabinets. The floor will be "not too light, not too dark, not too busy." Here is the tentative countertop and cabinet colors combination:

  7. The sun was out today when I left work, felt warm, I was hungry. Bought a pound an a half of 80/20 on the way home, enough for four burgers Fired up the Weber while the sun was still on the clock 80/20, charcoal fire, handful of hickory chips, a slice of pepper cheese. It ain't heaven, but you can see it from here

  8. From BuffJimopedia: Casseroles were an archaic whole meal in a dish post WW2 culinary innovation. Became extinct in 1981 with widespread adoption of the microwave oven. Reports occasionally surface of sightings at Lutheran pot luck suppers, but haven’t been substantiated.

  9. PP I would recommend the following book for you. If you are charged with conducting a meeting you are responsible for how it runs. Things like setting expectation and not allowing rabbit hole discussion or political meandering (not gov't politics - personal politics). I have learned over the last several years that having a framework - sticking to the framework and holding people accountable can result in incredible meetings. Meetings where things get accomplish not just talked about. We look forward to our meetings now.

  10. Lots of things can be done without this. Womaxx as the school bookkeeper and controller of the student accounts (about a quarter of a mil) used to have a stand alone program on her computer in her office subject to auditing at a moments notice. The new town school administration had everything put on line. No one knows why. It isn't accessed by anyone else. As a country we are doing far too much of this and hackers, Ransomeers and Pirates of all ilk are having a great time.

  28. I got a text from my pharmacy that I have a prescription ready. It’s 44 cents, and starts with PRE. So I’m guessing the Doctor called in a course of Prednisone. We’ve used it in the past with some success. I also keep a prescription of Azithromyacin on hand in case it feels infected.

  32. Brings back a memory... One time when I was between jobs I was working for a friend who is a PI. She had me doing several sub rosa’s to help pay the bills. So I’m tailing someone and am camped out about 10 houses down waiting for her to leave the residence. A nosey neighbor keeps walking by my car and finally walks up to my window. What are you doing here?!! I’m the neighborhood watch captain and I know everyone and you don’t belong here. Now I could tell her to buzz off but she’d probably call the police and I didn’t want all the activity so I just tell her the truth. Hey look I’m working for a PI and we’re doing an investigation on someone. I’ll be gone shortly.... Oh it’s that floozy such & such isn’t it, I knew she was up to no good and her husband is such a good guy..... Oh man the woman wouldn’t shut up! I said mam your gonna blow my cover can you please move along. Oh sure, you know she works at such & such bank but I hear she is being investigated..... I couldn’t get the old woman to leave me alone.... I thought Damn I’m gonna need to come up with better cover stories for the community watch people...

  33. -15F with wind chill of -30F and warming during the day to 1F. Hope everyone has a Great Day. I am snacking and drinking a cup of tea, after feeding bottle babies, letting the dogs run, checking for newborns, and hauling a bit of water in the barn. May nap later.

  36. I have a facebook account. Originally it was for free world wide communications via messenger to family members on the other side of the world. Now it's just for access to some RC drag racing sites. I accept no friend requests and I take part in no discussion forums outside of those racing sites. So far the mods have been pretty good on those sites. Go out of bounds or flame someone and your dick gets stepped on. Oops. Sorry, Navy speak for ............. insert your words here.
