  1. Mrs Z and I bought a project pop-up camper back in March. It’s a 98 Coleman/Fleetwood Seapine. We’ve been restoring/remodeling it for our trip this weekend. This is when we bought it: We completely stripped it down. Finished it up this week (talk about cutting it close). Here’s what it looks like now: I repaired/replaced sub flooring, flooring, and interior bed and side walls. Rewired, replumbed water and gas. Mrs Z and I stripped the cabinets and refinished them, painted. The ABS roof needed repairs. We used Grizzly Grip bed liner over the entire roof. Also has a new canvas. Mrs Z made the sleeping area curtains and completely altered the others. We picked out the color scheme and bought all the bedding, paints and flooring based on that and we’re pleased with the results. Anyway, virgin trip beginning this weekend. 😊

  2. She got laid off at the onset of Covid and last Sept began working as a temp for a medical device company. The company just offered her a job as a regular employee with a $10K annual increase to her current salary! They have a nice benefit package too so we’ll have to do some comparison shopping on medical but my company offers a great plan.

  3. She started volunteering at the Humane society and yesterday was her first day. She busted this guy out of jail for a few hours and they went for a long walk in the park, played together and then she went back to his place to snuggle. Then on the first day she cleaned up his pad.

  6. Nice! I also think it’s nice that @Razors Edge has volunteered to have your MIL stay at his FIL’s house indefinitely while she figures out her best situation moving forward! Two big developments in one day!

  7. One of the bikes I sold a couple of years ago has come back into my possession. I sold it to a school teacher that wanted it to commute to work, but has been transferred to another school that is too far from home, so no longer has need of it. He needs new wheels for his other bike, so we struck a deal for a new set of wheels and some cash. I am going to make some changes to it. I never really did get used to those butterfly bars. I just wanted to give them a try, but I am going to swap them out for something else. I'm thinking maybe an Albatross bar or something like that with a bit of a back sweep. Here is a link to the thread I posted when I sold it. https://squarewheelscycling.com/index.php?/topic/90196-n-1/&tab=comments#comment-826396 It will take some cleaning to get it to look like this again.

  8. You pick a phrase, you pick a rhyme. Repeat the sound another time. Five iambs then an extra beat will do ya. Another rhyme, a rising note, congratulations, you just wrote another damn verse to Hallelujah.

  10. OK so the FIL sprung this on us while he was out…. If his wife passes before us he asked us if we would be amenable to the idea of both of us selling and buying a larger house in SoCal. He lives his remaining years with us and we keep the house. We told him we’d be open to the idea but what about the MIL, she’s angling to move in with us too. That put a real quick end to that thought!

  18. Quite the salary range, so a lot of room for growth. It shouldn’t be hard to get ahead there.

  19. I am surprised @ChrisL even found out. Seems his wife should take a page from the MIL play book and take the check to another bank and cash it. sheesh.

  23. Ok, partial solution - After work a couple days a week, tell her to meet you at a local restaurant/pub/dive bar for a drink or appetizers or whatnot. Tell her the time you will get there, and build in an arrival time for yourself at 30 minute prior to give yourself time to unwind, play on the phone, visit the forum, and just chill out. She will probably be overjoyed to get out of the house, and you have date nights AND unwind time. Plus, if there is a change of place, she can get out of her head a bit and will be more easily diverted from work stuff. Lots to like if she would be into it.

I didn't post this until after I got back to the hotel but typed the above connected from home so all my stuff is working and my Internet addition won't suffer when I move in Wednesday.

  30. Had a package shipped from CLIFTON HEIGHTS, PA June 17. So far it has visited Boston, MA, Nashua, NH, Conway, NH then back to Nashua. It has now left Nashua again. Where will it go next before coming to Indiana? When will it get here? Can anyone answer these questions? 3 items in the order. The other box with partial shipment arrived Tuesday with a badly broken box that I opened to check the contents before our mail carrier left. Expected a broken item but it was OK. IT looked like some softball player used it to bat one of Emmy's fastballs. @Parr8hed

  31. When my mom passed we had come into some money with the sale of her house So I pulled out $4K and told her we’re getting a bike for you with this. Had I not done this she would have earmarked it for something else for sure. She initially resisted but warmed to the idea and loves her bike. It’s a few years old now but still current. Bianchi Carbon Impulso in Celeste with Ultegra 11 Spd & Easton EA 90 SL hoops. It’s a really sweet ride.

  37. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. By paying her rent and utilities you're essentially enabling her behavior. She knows very well how to manipulate the people around her. She may be your wife's Mom, but she's not behaving as one and she presently has no incentive to change. Hard words to hear, but that's what's happening. I understand you wanted to vent, and may not be looking for solutions. But on the odd chance you might want to consider some, what could be one solution? Your mother in law needs to be re-trained regarding her behavior. Unfortunately, it's much harder to do this than it is to maintain the present situation even with the incidents like just happened and the emotional fallout. If your mother in law didn't have your financial assistance, where would she be? Figure out where that is, schedule a visit, and take her there. I'd wager it's not nearly as nice as where she is. Let her know in no uncertain terms if she doesn't cooperate with your wife and brother in law, the support ends and that's where she's going to wind up. Let her know that no way will she live with you or your brother in law. Let her know that tears and hysterics mean nothing. The other solution? Change your expectations. Simply expect that no matter what you do nor how hard you try, there will always be incidents like this that will be driven by your mother in law's behavior. That she will not change, and she will always be manipulative and secretive. That she won't act like a 'Mom', but like someone who takes what she can from whomever she can, whether family or not. Under this approach you won't be able to control or even influence that, but you will be able to control your reaction to it. The idea in our society is that we do things for family that we wouldn't do for other people. We help them and grant them greater latitude in what we tolerate from them on the basis of a familial bond. At some point one has to ask whether the cost of maintaining that bond is worth the price. Whether one wants that family member in one's life with all the upheaval they cause, especially when they bring nothing positive to the relationship and one is constantly giving to that person with little hope of change. It's a tough situation. I admit I would not want to be in your position and admit I probably would not have done as well as you have. I wish the best in working this out.

  39. Two turtles and a tortoise walk into a bar... The tortoise goes over to a piano and starts playing it. The two turtles start singing along with the piano with amazing voices. The bartender can't believe what he's seeing. He walks over to the two turtles singing and says "You guys are incredible! Where'd did you learn how to sing?" One of the singing turtles stands up, points over to the turtle playing piano and simple replies "he tortoise"

  40. I'm sorry. I don't have any useful suggestions, but happy to listen to you vent. This would be a difficult situation even if she were doing her best and trying to help, but it's especially infuriating if she's lying and playing games.
