  1. The west camera at camp. He's pretty much looking right at camp which is about 60 yards away. Nice pic, cute ears, but he's usually there in the wee hours of the morning... When we're safely tucked in bed!! Glad to say we weren't there that day. Then again...maybe it would have been cool to see him in person.🤔

  2. Six days, five nights, approx. 200 miles, 17k of elevation gain. Single track, gravel, dirt, double track, and some pavement. Amazing ride!

  3. Last weekend I smoked a rack of ribs. WoW and I can eat 1/2 rack between us. We had never found a way to reheat them in the past that gave us that “from the smoker” flavor. WoW had bought a sous vide a short time ago. We haven’t used it a lot, yet, but she decided to reheat them in the sous vide. We have a winner! They were delicious!

  4. My BFF is having us ride out the heatwave at their gorgeous home. I am a helper. I clean the house while they are gone. No expectations, but it is something I can do. Today, we are having a bunch of crabs delivered. I am going to take them apart today. It will be a big job, and I am happy to help out where I can. They have a dog too. This dog is a love. We just hang out and she gets pets all day long. 104 F is the predicted high today. Ready for this heat to mellow out.

  5. This 55" long TV stand arrived from Amazon, advertised as "tools included" and one reviewer saying "takes just several minutes to assemble." There were 34 screws with an allen-wrench head, 3 boards, 7 black metal pieces - two of which were listed backwards in the instructions - and the allen wrench provide had a very short length. Fortunately, I had a longer allen wrench the same size in my car tool kit that made things easy. Still, going through the instructions first, ID-ing the pieces, etc. and then carefully putting it together took 85 minutes. Tomorrow or Wednesday, we're adding a bed, TV (Fios TV, phone, Internet already installed), two large tray tables, and a comfortable outdoor folding chair until my awesome recliner arrives - Costco online says it has shipped but the UPS tracking no. page says it's still being processed and they'll give me a delivery date when it becomes known.

  11. My best years are right now.....I am living a dream. When I was in my teens I didn't care about anything or anyone. In my 20s, 30s, 40s and part of my 50s I spent too much time working. I did get my share of racing and biking in but I was still working way too much overtime. Now I'm traveling around the country racing motorcycles, sidecars, mountain biking, paddle boarding any time any where I want. I'm no longer a responsible adult.

  12. Stopped in at the famous Siebkens tavern in Elkhart Lake the other day. In the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s this was the place to hang out at with the racing teams and owners. It's still the place to go but back in the day it was race central.

  18. They turned out really good too! I had a smoked ham hock and crocked it on low for 8 hours. I picked the meat & saute’d it in a pan with 1/2 an onion & 3 garlic cloves. I then put 3 bushels of greens that I ripped into smallish pieces and poured the liquid from the crock pot back in with some chicken bouillon to bolster flavor. I then let it simmer on low for around 45 minutes. The greens were flavorful and not gooey or too firm. Actually some of the best collard greens I have had.

  19. Yesterday on my ride we hit a detour on a MUP that took us in the street for a bit and then back in the MUP. As I’m making a hard left to get back on the trail a 60 something dude on an e bike hit the turn to fast, lost control and dumped it on the side of the trail. So I loop around, get off my bike to help him and when I bend down to pick up his bike get dizzy due to my low BP issues and drop to my knees! I was able to shake it off and get his bike off him but now I’m light headed & dizzy so sit next to him. My wife rolls up and figures the old man took me out! Nah he just fell & I got light headed again. Us two geezers sat in the shade for a minute, geezer #1 sorting himself & his bike out. Geezer #2 just waiting for the light headed ness to pass. It wasn’t funny at the time but my we got a good chuckle out of later.

  22. I could hang there. I like bars with character. They make for good stories. I do my best writing in places like that. My favorite local is an Irish pub. They had to move to a new place a couple of years ago, but they managed to keep some of the character of the old place.

  25. My kitchen counter is closed to finished - the dirty stuff on the floor is plywood placed over the sheet flooring to prevent marring: The kitchen sink has a hose that comes out of the main faucet: I asked the contractor if a washer tub could be placed under the washer and I see he took care of that - it's not installed yet: The toilet's in, the vanity sink is all hooked up, and the tub is partly hooked up. Didn't realize I cut off the sink faucet in the picture but it's a nice as the shower stuff. I decided on a shower curtain instead of the solid piece with a half mirror I had before and didn't like having to step in only at the left end.

  26. I ate inside a very nice restaurant today for the first time I ate in in over two years. I was with my group of widowers from church. I had a delightful chicken walnut salad. It was only $10 I gave the waitress twenty and told her keep the change. Most of the other men tipped well to. We were there for about an hour and a half. After a half hour it’s really not a tip, you are paying rent.

  31. I have thought about this some more, and from many angles. At first I was just humoring RR, who was in an angsty mood, but deserved to be heard. But then I thought about it more and more and came to some conclusions. The first conclusion is that every year, somebody says something like "sure are a lot of garishly-outfitted road bike riders in one area in France, there may be a race starting up", and several other tightly wound people immediately yell and scream "SPOILER OF ALL THINGS GOOD IN THE WORLD" and "DEVIL SPAWN" and point fingers and throw rotting tomatoes and want that person to have a big S for spoiler in their avatar, and the end result is that nobody ever talks about a major interest of most of us here. At all. Conclusion? RR is right. Not a damn person goes to the other area, other than a token effort, and we just don't talk about the biggest bike races on the planet. When I can watch a stage, I watch a stage. If I miss a stage, I read about it and I know what is happening for the next stage and I am no worse off. I often go back and read the live report and I hear all about what happened and with a time stamp which also tells me where in the race something happened, say 60km's from the finish, some poor sap had a drone fly into him and dnf'd because he is now blind. If I hear a spoiler, it doesn't ruin any damn thing because it is nothing without context. If somehow it was so compelling, I can hit the highlights on youtube or somesuch and see how something unfolded. If I go away for several days, I can look at the GC standings and read a recap and time gaps and understand what is going on pretty damn quickly, no need to go back and hear Phil and Bob talk about who scratched whose balls in the feed zone every day. The second conclusion? Nobody really posts even vague spoilers after the first alarmist shout-down, so spoilers really haven't been an issue anyway. But that is beside the point. What we have here are people who are resistant to even considering they are going about something the wrong way. Which is exactly the way the recorders are doing it. WHY do you have to have EVERY stage recorded if you don't plan on watching every stage you have recorded? In case what? Observation has proven time and again that absolutely no one will watch even 10% of any of the recorded stages, and if those are even started, they will be ff'd through to the end and so just revealing what you would have learned by reading about it. Yet you forget this yearly and still record them and squelch discussion so that, just in case, you might watch the ending 10 days later and not give a shit about everything else that makes the tour great to watch other than the result. It is like you only watch money shots on pornhub and don't even look at the boobs of the hot adult stepsisters and their nude stepsister friends who are suddenly and without warning giving a handy for no good reason. Anyway, you recorders are focusing on the wrong things in my mind, and making a tragedy up in your minds about the whole thing. Everyone not on the forum is talking about the race in real time, so 95% of the cycling public or thereabouts. I recommend that you watch the stage, but failing that, pull up the live report (the day of the stage) like this spoiler filled example https://www.cyclingnews.com/races/tour-de-france-2021/stage-3/live-report/ Failing that, look at the results from cycling sites as soon as the stage is over, and read an article or two about what happened to catch yourself up, and don't worry so much about stages that are already over, just watch the next stage while being fully caught up on know what is going on. You can still watch the stage if you know what is going on in the race and still enjoy it from another perspective. Just try it for a week or so and see if you feel better off, I implore you. The gift in all this is that you can discuss the tour like everyone else is, yay! Anyway, I am not expecting a change unless most of the people start clamoring for it, just expressing my view and support for RR's take on it, too. Just as in years past, I won't post spoilers of the stage or even talk about the race except in winter when nobody will bitch too much about how they are finally getting to 17th stage of the 2018 tour. RR never posted spoilers that I remember, we all really like the recorders even if they are wrong about the tour.
