I own a tandem that was given to me by the original owner who purchased it new in the mid 60s. It is a Schwinn Twinn Deluxe, date of manufacture according to the Schwinn serial data base is Oct 22nd 1964. I did a complete resto mod on it including a paint job, new wheels and drive train hoping my wife would get into it, but it only took her a couple of tries to determine that she hated it. I got some use out of it when my grandkids were small, but in recent years, it has been stored in my mother's garage and her neighbour kids use it from time to time. Photo is with my son and grand daughter who is now 15, so it was a while ago.6 points

Monday is my daughters birthday. She'll be celebrating on the day of with her daycare. For the family we are doing the get together on Saturday. Was going to be a pool party at a public pool/waterpark but with the tropical storm on the way we've been getting hit by bands of heavy thunderstorms more frequently. The time we planned for the party is in the 70% chance of heavy storms. Not worth it. Instead we're gonna take her to a place called Flying Squirrel. It's an indoor trampoline park: She was there about a month ago for another birthday party and loved it. From there we'll head back home for cake and presents. The 4th will hopefully be very low-key. Monday the wife and I are off together, might goto the outlet to look for some things we need for the upcoming trip to Oahu. Or not and lay low again.6 points

KInda boring today...cycled up a hill to a bluff, dropped by a little informal memorial for residential native Indian children at city hall outside, then had a latte outside at a coffee shop and home. Tomorrow haircut, hope to get new running shoes...I'm not planning cycling really far with threat of thundershowers so far. Trying to understand my new camera. Will be talking to some people this weekend. I'm not sure what else..I probably will drop by a bookstore also. There's a satiric novel "Indians on Vacation" written by a Canadian aboriginal, Thomas King (abit of an oxymoron from their perspective), that good..about a bunch of aboriginals vacationing in European ..a modern satiric clash of indigenous and European stuff. I'm reading his history book for 2nd time which I bought/read over 3 years ago, "An Inconvenient Indian". So my new camera, this photo was ok. From 2 wks. ago. I think the dancers were being filmed out in the field. Those dancers took frequent drinks of water after dancing only for about 5 minutes each time...it was hot.6 points

Some might remember that just before WoJSTL and I did the GAPCO ride, the rear wheel on the tandem basically self-destructed. 3 broke spokes plus another one pulled out of the rim. The bike came with a strange rear wheel having a disk brake and a 7-speed freewheel. I could only find one wheel like that and it was a cheap single-wall rim. Therefore I bought a MTB wheelset with an 8-speed hub. I found a 7-speed cassette and placed a thin spacer to make up the difference. This allowed me to use the 7-speed rear derailleur and shifter. Now that the trip is done, I had time to find an 8-speed rear derailleur, shifter, and cassette. I installed them today. The new combination has a 34-tooth granny gear as opposed to the 7-speed's 32 so that should help on steep climbs. Plus the extra gear makes for smaller jumps. I also replaced the knobby tires with some smoother 26x2.125" tires. I'll store the knobby tires in case we want to do something like the Erie Canal or Katy Trail. Tomorrow WoJSTL and I are going to ride our ages in kilometer which is about 42 miles if you want to do the math. Hopefully it all works well.5 points

My oldest daughter had informed me of some WFH options with her company that would give me a way to move down there already gainfully employed when we are ready to make the move. I was dreading talking to my bosses because there just aren't enough people to hire. This afternoon before the holiday was a quiet day so I could talk to them without interruption. Told them what was up and that I planned to stay through the fair before applying down there. That will get them through the most demanding time span for staff, get me some OT money and good commission on billable hours, and a sense of closure because the state fair is one of our biggest accounts and I am largely responsible for us getting the account. They were a little taken back, but when I explained my thinking, they were understanding. If they can get someone in, I will even show them the ropes before I leave. Glad it's in the open so if something is said or slipped, they won't feel betrayed. They are good people. Want to leave on a good foot.4 points

Of course we want to do the math! Let's see... 42 miles rounds up to about 68 kilometers, and there are two of you (of course!) riding the tandem. If you are riding your ages and we assume you're each the same age, then: Let x = your age = WoJSTL's age x + x = 68 2x = 68 x = 68/2, or you and WoJSTL are both about 34. Am I close?4 points

Left work early today for a dermatology appt. Stopped on the way for a slice of espresso chocolate chip cheesecake. After the appt. drove to the LBS and dropped off the slice of cheesecake for my mechanic. It’s a long story. Hit the coffee shop for two pounds of beans, and the PO Box for mail. Dairy Queen for a blizzard and shake. Costco for $300 of supplies. Fight traffic getting home then the skies opened up. Seemed like 4” of rain fell in 30 minutes.4 points

My company and the office complex property management both lifted mask requirements for vaccinated people. I had been wearing one anyway but returning to my office with lunch I had my hands full so said F it and walked in with it still in my pocket. It felt weird walking around my building without a mask on.3 points

Ordered take-away from our favorite Italian Restaurant. It is a little mom-n-pop single location restaurant. While I typically have a regular pasta dish, tonight I tried their pizza for the first time. Tuscan chicken with tomatoes, pesto and mozzarella - so freak'n good! http://www.circostasitalian.com/3 points

I still feel strange whenever I get out of my car without the mask on and it's been a few weeks here. In other news - Michigan had 0 (that's ZERO) reported Covid deaths today - first time since early March of 2020.3 points

Greenville has no Tour coverage. I get all my updates from @Road Runner and he has been spotty and undependable this year. Most of those non-yellow jerseys are made up who cares categories so the French can have something to cheer about. "Look at little Tommy Voeckler with the heart of a lion going out with the breakaway pack. The paisley and croissant jersey could be his tonight." Stage Final Results ...... Well looky at Cheese coming on all gangbusters and shit! Great to have you all posting and garnering likes. Just think, if Kirby posted more she would be unbeatable. All that's missing is more RR, since Effing Ray went oot for a ride and he never came back. Although I am comforted that James Caan was the only one who ever left Taxi, and HE'LL BE BACK.3 points

Today, no plans. Wo7 is going up to Edgewater MD to visit with Colene. She may come back tonight or stay up there and return Saturday. Saturday is get stuff done. Transfer beer to secondary fermenter. Work on organizing the garage. Maybe a morning gravel ride. Make pie and potato salad in the afternoon. Sunday is the 4th. Prep burgers and bacon for grilling. Maybe check out fireworks nearby, maybe chill by the fire pit. Monday is bike ride with Dave, who used to work at the LBS. haven’t ridden with him in many years. Mike may join us if he can.3 points
