  3. Off today and Mrs is oot of town. So I woke up early and went out for a groovy little motorbike ride before it gets too hot. Still adjusting the settings for the handlebars, clutch and brake levers.

  5. I dusted off the Bianchi & took it for a whirl today. It was fun but damn that bike is long & low. I’m not used to it & had to cut it short at 20miles. My neck & back were achy. Some thoughts: At about 4 lbs lighter than my crosser, the weight was noticeable. I wasn’t faster but you can just feel that it’s a lighter bike. It almost felt skittish as the front end is so light. Hydraulic discs are better brakes period, no debate and none of you retro grouches will ever convince me other wise. Do cable actuated rim brakes work? Yes but they are not in the same league as hydro discs. My hands were noticeably fatigued from grabbing the brakes so hard to stop. One finger braking, yeah no… Campagnolo shifting = Buttah. Shimano shifting has a nice firm indexed click with each shift. Campy has a buttery smooth action to the lever. I wouldn’t say it’s better, just smoother. It was fun breaking out the Bianchi but the Ritchey will get lots more action for the foreseeable future. I’ll post a picture since the site lets me now! White on white anyone??? I did this especially for @Randomguy

  7. 1/8th scale gas. We had a wicked headwind on the back straight. If you didn't have the front low enough, a blow over was possible. It was a qualifying heat and I was following a good friend down the back straight. About the time the cars shift to 2nd gear, his car lifted up and over mine, then landed right behind me as if he had hit an invisible Hot Wheels loop. We kept going, but on the driver's stand he said to me, "you saw that, too. Right?"

  9. Yeah. A couple of the neighbors came over with their kids. We blowed up shit real good. We shot a bunch Roman candles, and stuff. And for the finale we hooked the fuses to six “box-o-fireworks,” set them in the Jon boat, and pushed it out into the pond. That was cool. You get the reflection too. The roll of firecrackers the size of a five gallon bucket leaves a hell of a mess. And if you chuck a mortar out in the yard like a grenade instead of launching it from the tube, it’ll burn a frisbee sized hole in the grass down to the dirt. Oh, then there was the deck fire. One of the kids threw a sparkler under the deck and caught the dust on fire. Fortuitously the garden hose was right there. The biggest kick the kids had for the night was shooting bottle rockets into the pond so they blow up under water. You can feel the thump through the ground. That thrilled them.

  12. After last weeks red light in the finals fellow racers are having fun at my expense. Because of today's weather we didn't set up a christmas tree or timing system. We went with a flashlight starting system in the style of true street racers. Someone stands out in front of the starting line and when his flashlight comes on you go. So first round I do my burnouts and stage the car. Then I look at his hand holding the flashlight and when it lights I nail it. I hadn't heard him ask if we could see the light well when it came on. I had a great, damn near perfect launch and run, only then finding out that it was a light test. Drove back down to the starting line and went through the process again but I'd burned the good off my tires and the next launch was a left hood ending up on my roof. My reputation is cemented now.

  17. Checked the list of G-mail accounts in use on my phone, and it’s gone. No more .edu. My Google Classroom app comes up “Try another account.” I am no longer an employee. It’s real. I wonder what will happen to my educator NYT subscription.

  18. Picked them up from the transporter in Vandalia OH about 1:45 this afternoon. She was later than planned because of heavy fog in the mountains in New Hampshire had her driving 25 mph across much of the state. Now have them home and settled in. Animals are fed. Pictures will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm hot and tired and so are the puppies. Loaded in the Jeep in Vandalia for the ride home.

  33. We went in December 2019. Never had the desire to go in the summer, probably because of the crowds. Although we didn’t see a lot of the interior we had some awesome xc skiing into the park. We will be driving through part of YS in a few weeks.

  39. Surprised there is not much talk about wildlife. I prefer going in the autumn. I also prefer the Tetons, but found Yellowstone enchanting, particularly after a snow in late September. I normally go the cheap route and stay in cabins several miles west, but now I have the pu camper. Different strokes for different folks, but I will return some day.
