  1. It's in a nice part of Louisville. (for a change) The patients are all in reasonably good health. They walk in. They are not super needy. They converse with you. It's gonna be a good day.

  5. Saturday at the races Mona was just a little off. On Sunday she was shaking and slept more than normal so Monday morning my son took Mona to a vet and they gave her a shot and some medication that she is all ready on for some health problems. It looked like she was starting to get better but then this afternoon she got worse. She couldn't keep any thing down so she went in to the animal hospital where they did more tests. It turns out that she has a tumor pressing on some of her internal organs and she is going to need surgery. We were planning on racing this weekend but it looks like I might be driving to Georgia instead. My son has a small pickup and I think that Mona would be more comfortable making the 14 hour trip in the motorhome. This is a photo that a track photographer took of Mona on Saturday morning

  12. No. Not his responsibility at all. I'm grateful for a fun place that he created but he owes us nothing. Frankly, in a world of forums that suck ass SW stands out head and shoulders above many far larger ones.

  14. View of the Jungfraujoch from the train between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen three years ago. I haven’t opened my laptop since May, but the background is tulips in our front yard taken in spring of 2020. Bulbs from the Netherlands; same trip as the Switzerland picture.

  15. My house is one of those "Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky." There's not much a view from my house except for other houses, but there's a nice park and woods a block away. Fortunately, there are lots of nearby parks with pretty views and lots of benches at which to rest and give Jake a drink of water in his collapsible water bowl:

  36. Nice checkmate DH! Both sides violated the opening principles that you should make as few Pawn moves as possible and develop your other pieces first. It usually pays to keep the pawns in front of the king-side bishop, knight, and rook on their original squares and to castle early. Black paid for not doing that. There are grandmaster openings with a lot of early pawn moves, but they're designed to get the other pieces out fast while slowing your opponent's ability to do so. These often involve a long Queen move like you did in your game. Here's one I won with the Vienna Opening - which moves the King's Bishop's Pawn out early - in 14 moves where mistakes by my opponent led me to make some early Pawn moves in 2017 for Team Maryland vs Team Alabama. The interactive game is here: https://www.chess.com/game/daily/160141534 There's is one extremely powerful opening called the King's Gambit which appears to give away King's Bishop's Pawn on the 2nd move but Black ends up facing an extreme attack if he accepts that Pawn. It results in such a wild, almost out-of-control game that few people will try it. I've only played it twice in rated competition, once in a 2018 Team USA vs Team Hungary match, where the Hungarian declined the "free" pawn I gambited and I won in a slow, positional game (https://www.chess.com/game/daily/208247790). The other I also won and it was the typical, thrill-a-minute Kings Gambit Accepted in the Semifinals of the 2017 Team USA Southeast Championship Tournament. This was one of the most exciting games I ever played: https://www.chess.com/game/daily/192545898
