  1. Shania, a gorgeous Shepherd/Great Pyrenees/Husky(?) mix, is ready for her happily-ever-after fairytale ending! Are you the hero she’s looking for? She’s got the basics of training down (crate and potty) and is so smart, she’ll enjoy ongoing learning. Likely to be 50-70 lbs once full-grown, she needs a home with another playful dog to corral her puppy energy! Please view her entire profile along with adoption requirements at www.dsda.org/adopt Did this cutie just eat an approved snack or steal a treat? We’ll never tell!

  5. It's a thing. Basically you invest in companies or whatever based on factors other than financial information. This would be like wind farms to help reduce carbon production, companies who make minority hiring a priority, etc. I have one, Danimer Scientific., Inc. "It s a performance polymer company specializing in developing and producing bioplastic replacements for petrochemical-based plastics." So that's basically a pure ESG trade for me, my only one. The other way I prefer to do things is to give consideration for a how a company fits into a changing world. For example, my GLDD (I've mentioned this one a couple of times) stock is a company that is also providing support for offshore wind farm construction. It's a factor. If profits go down, I'm likely to hold the company a little longer than usual. You should invest in these two companies and help to make me wealthy. It's the responsible thing to do.

  6. Ha, I lived in Detroit for a time growing up and visiting Windsor was always a delight. The reason Europe is because of my wife is Turkish. This gets her closer to her family and possible support structure while still maintaining the high expectations of living. In Canada we would still be across the "pond" and beyond reasonable measures for her family to visit, or help if needed. Her immediate family is two sisters both with government jobs of long tenure. In Turkey you can retire when you've some number based on when you were born, number of years in government work, and the set retirement age for non government groups. For the elder sister that is 53 for the middle 56. Both of which is less than a decade away. The elder has a teenage daughter now and divorced, the middle no children or husband. They both live together already. They've both decided wherever my wife is that they want to all be together when the sisters hit retirement. They have several investment properties in Turkey above and beyond their current retirement pensions they would have. They could all afford to live together quite well in whichever European city they end up. So Europe it has to be since. As for costs; being interested with numbers I pulled a bunch of current COL reports and can confidently say that the COL index is higher in Denmark (no surprise there). With a median across 7 reports of 114 or in quantitative form; everything I will buy will cost 14% more. The median salary required to live in the city centers of Denmark, ideally we want to be in the small towns just outside either Copenhagen or Arhus, is about $5000 USD ,for a family of 4, which means we may not need two salaries as we have here in the US. Since the median salary for my job at my current experience level in Denmark is about $11,000 per month take the tax rate of 52.06% which gives us around $5200 a month to afford to live.

  11. Testing today on what will be one of next years cars. There is a new class in the area for lower performance cars that can be raced just for fun without as much investment or breakage. It will be called the gasser class, named after the old time NHRA gas class. There are few rules other than running a stock Traxxas Titan 12 brushed motor, the same one that comes in all the backyard cars made by Traxxas. The cars are encouraged to look a bit like the old gassers and hotrods as opposed to the slammed down anteater nose on the ground pro mods we run at the higher speeds. I took the old super stock chassis and re-motored it and was testing this morning. It's already competitive and now I have to wait till the budget allows for a new body. I'm thinking a scale replica if I can manage it. The body is not available for sale yet but it's on the way. These are relatively low cost low performance RC drag cars and the difference in ET will be minimal from driver to driver so they should be fun to race. They are so underpowered that one doesn't have to bother with a burnout.

  14. I don't think apple picking is really about getting apples, although people who bake or preserve fruit may use all the apples they get. It's more about having an activity that you can do with kids in beautiful autumn weather, and it's usually combined with apple cider donuts, some sort of a petting zoo and a "country store" where people from NYC go nuts buying apple themed products. There are also likely to be cutouts for posing for pictures. or some sort of a play park for kids. The downside is that there tend to be crowds if you go on a weekend.

  15. 25.1 miles, solo ride tonight with 1,437 ft of gain. Very nice, cool evening for us SoCalers. I do wear my mask to keep my ears warm and protect my lungs a bit nowadays. While riding, I see all kinds of crud floating in the air as cars. buses, and truck pass. Thanks to the lights showing the crud, I found another reason to keep the mask on while traffic is present. 4,117 miles for the year, aiming for 5,000. Pretty sure I'll get it. 152,749 ft of gain so far. Not bad considering I didn't even think about adding some gain till about 3 months ago.

  16. Apples are cheaper, fresher, and lack, lots of the chemicals store apples have. Plus it is fun. You would get great pictures and make a lifetime of memories. If you would finally plan to come here, we could take RO on a hayride, pick, apples, eat cider doughnuts, and try our luck at the corn maze.

  18. There was a very large lady walking on the left side of the trail. I slowed down and said passing on your left. She kept walking on the left so I said passing on your right and passed her on the right. She must have had earbuds in or was deaf. She had long hair so I couldn’t see her ears.

  19. Rode around lake Wilhelm plus a mile or two. Wanted to get a picture of one of the falling trees that is leaning across the trail and we have to ride under it. It didn’t look too bad in the picture but it could break loose at any time and crash down on the trail. 14 miles.

  26. We're starting to look at this more seriously. With my eventual demise a high probability we're looking at exit strategies for wife and child. Reasoning is varied but for the most part it boils down to support, affordability, and access to social structures. Here in the US, regardless of your politics I'm sure most of you can agree, unless you can fend for yourself with a meaningful income (middle class if that even technically exists) with a job that offers stellar medical and/or have support of family you are in for a tough time as a single parent. We are more and more thinking we don't mind a hike in what we pay for taxes if we actually see something in return. Better access to healthcare, education, and other social nets. I'm not assuming that my family will be destitute after I am gone but they will be more limited and if moving to another country now can establish a few years as residents/citizens of a nation that benefits them, then I'm game. For all our travels we gravitate to the Scandinavian cultures. We loved Denmark and Norway as well as Sweden. There are plenty of tech companies where my skills are highly sought after, the cost of living may be high but the social benefits seem to far outweigh the additional expenditure. This would put family closer to relatives who want to help and can physically and financially help if needed too. For all the love I have for my immediate family I have reservations that when I'm gone they'll give a single shit about my wife or child. My parents at least on the surface love having a grandchild but in the end their 50 miles distance may as well be the ocean for how hard it is to convince them to come and visit her. It's always on us. Besides that their finances are suspect at best. If my wife we left as the sole provider they'd never be anything but an additional cost. My twin sister is, well herself. Again she loves being an Auntie but if the new boyfriend is still with the new-boyfriend-smell then we're so far from her mind she won't call for weeks. Elder sister is the same except also hundreds of miles away. I actually applied to my first job in Copenhagen. I have no illusions that I'd get this one but its a start of putting feelers out there. I understand on a surface level the requirements of immigration and am continuing to learn. Hopefully some conversations with headhunters or job interviews can illuminate other challenges we'll have to research.

  36. 6 on the commute 12.4 on the gravel Got the chance to chew out a kid in the parking lot on the ride home. I was riding past Planet Fitness and this Mustang was rushing through a parking lane about 25 mph. I saw him and slowed. Saw his window was down and yelled a big “HEY!!” He turned, startled, face turning white and says “sorry!” It was rush hour and he was trying to turn left out of the parking lot. He had to wait for traffic, so I had time to make some points. This is a parking lot. You don’t go that fast. Sorry You didn’t even look my way until I yelled. Sorry I’m not just mad for me. People are walking to and from their cars! Sorry Lets be more careful and aware in the future Sorry About that time the raid cleared for both of us and he was able to get away from the grumpy old guy on the bike!
