  2. I need a plastic container for something I'm making so Wo46 and I walked over to a home brewing supply store 3 blocks away. I've been friends with the owner of the store for about 30 years and it was a slow night so.....remember when Richy Cunningham had tiny weeny little beers. Well I didn't have 72 of them but I did sample a Vanilla stout, a vanilla porter, a bourbon barrel stout, a chocolate porter, 2 different Ambers, a lager and a pilsner. I went back a few times for the bourbon barrel beer.

  5. Presta or Schrader? Schader there should never be a "valve" issue. Presta has that little nut at the top that you unscrew, but it can be unscrewed too much and remove the core totally deflating the tires. My process is to loosen that top nut just a couple turns, tap the "bolt" to make sure it is loose (little hiss of air), put on the pump head, and inflate. If that little top nut is not loose enough, the bolt will not depress, and air will not get into the tire.

  12. I had a 16# bowling ball but my son left it up in a tree and when he moved he tried to get it out of the tree and couldnā€™t, the tree had grown around it. The new owner of his house is probably wondering how does this happen? So am I.

  15. Blizzards for us. Or ice storms. But we havenā€™t had a death toll over 50 for any event in the last 100 years that Iā€™m aware of. Our two bad blizzards (1977 and 2014) killed about 20 people each. Without massive property damage. Flooding happens in our area, but rarely causes massive damage, like the Agnes flood did in Southern NY in 1972.

  22. So, I was working at my local Stop and Shop. Happy as a pig in poop to be working again. I try hard, but I'm not very good at this. I'm also kinda shy and don't ask for help or instructions. Some of the old folk seem frustrated with me. "put all the frozen items in one bag..." "don't put the chips on the bottom..." So I moved a little slower to make sure I was doing it right. My manager just fired me for being lazy. He said some old dude was in the other day with a clipboard, taking notes, pictures, and video. I guess he complained to corporate.

  25. Back in October, I saw a 3.5 lb piece of Bottom Round Roast on sale. I can't believe $4.39/lb was a sale - it's probably even higher now. It looked too nicely marbled to a Round, so I bought it. Then mostly forgot about it in the back of the freezer. Today I thawed it out. I wondered if I should try to use the same sauce as I use making a Jewish Brisket (includes a can of diced tomatoes, the sauce pulsed in a blender for 30 seconds). Or should I make my old quick-and-dirty pot roast where I make a quick gravy with mushroom soup. But I looked online and found what looks like a great Instant Pot recipe with rave comments - and the cook seems to know what she's doing, though her instant pot seems to be filled above the safe line for pressure cooking. She says stuff like, "Take the meat out of the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking. Cold meat will seize when it hits high heat suddenly so for the best results, remember to let it warm up," and she says to cook the meat first, then add the veggies and pressure cook another 6-8 minutes so the veggies don't get too soft - most recipes just say to throw the veggies in with the meat. She also says "Bottom round is quite flavorful and would be my second choice [after chuck roast] for pot roast." Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, and Celery are my standard veggies with pot roast, so this looks good, though I may cut back on the liquids if it fills my 6 quart pot too much. She makes gravy from the broth by thickening with corn starch. I'll comment below on how it turned out.

  33. Recovery! After 3 weeks daughter and family returned to Switzerland. The week solo with the grandson wasn't bad as they attended a conference, Biggest regret is that due to wearing a Halter Monitor, I couldn't go swimming. As grandson is leaning to swim with the first basic stroke, as a former lifeguard and water safety instructor, I really wanted to teach him some things...like treading water. True to form, delivered them to the airport Friday, drive home and as we hit the neighborhood, text that SIL left cell phone in back door. 20 minute mad dash back to the airport! Part of the problem was that we could not stay and see them off...at least to TSA, as both parking lots were full and remote lots with shuttle busses only. Saw no busses waiting an a long walk with all the cars parked close so elected to do the terminal "departure" drop off. Gets rushed transferring suitcases to sidewalk and can't loiter, ultimately leaving the phone behind. At least they had enough time after checking in (had to do manually at counter as SIL passport mismatch as online computer interpreted the German "o with two dots above" as "oe". At least they could wait for me at the departue dropoff drive through for the phone.
