  1. Update: Mom is making a tremendous recovery. The nurses are amazed at how she has rebounded. Eating a little more. Thought I’d share the good news.

  2. I was riding downhill on the paved bike trail just south of home. In fact, the trail is parallel to my street, and I pass my house heading west before turning around at the end of the block to pedal over to my street and uphill a bit back home again. But I digress. So, I’m coasting downhill kind of fast. Well, fast for me. Probably 20 mph, I can’t be certain, but 20 is a nice round number that sounds fast to me. Don’t get hung up on the actual speed. It was fast because I get nothing but spin even if I do turn the pedals. I think my big ring is 48, which is perfect for most rides, but spins out on any downhill. I’m ok with that, though, since coasting feels good, too. Anyway, I’m coasting down the path and looking to my right at an abandoned lot. The house that used to be there caught on fire, but instead of rebuilding and getting a lot of discretionary cash like Dr. Mickin, the owners razed the home and abandoned the lot. Vandals have knocked down the cinder block wall separating the property from the arroyo easement, and for good reason. Taking that wall down creates a direct route from the subsidized housing units to the east to the grocery store down the street. It probably saves folx ten minutes of walking around the neighborhood. So, I’m pondering an interesting use for this vacant lot, then wondering if I could drop-in at the steep sides of the concrete flood control channel (arroyo), realizing that even if I could drop-in without endoing I couldn’t pedal back out, and shucks…if I could that would save me five minutes of riding around the neighborhood. I didn’t realize the paved path takes a turn. I roll hard into cactus, tall weeds, gravel, concrete debris, dead leaves, heading straight for the edge of the arroyo. A moment of panic and then snap to! Take control of the handlebars, steer through the rough back toward the path, which was a little dicey because I had to avoid getting stuck in an erosion rut. My heart rate jumped into the 130’s. I was riding while fasted and the wash of adrenaline left me feeling a little shaky during the uphill bit back home. But I’m here to tell the story, God be praised! I’m glad I didn’t have to find out whether I could drop-in the arroyo. Not today.

  5. Watching some big trees out front get pushed around pretty good. It is just ever so slightly unnerving knowing that in about 5 hours I am gonna pull the camper up interstate 65 North for about 1.5 hours. Hope the wind dies down a little. It's really no big deal for me driving as long as I fix the wife a roadie before we leave. Funny how that seems to make my driving easier.

Turn on the water heater. I will then build a faar. Finally, I will have some bourbon and raise a glass to her 41st BDay.

  12. Hello, my name is Mosey. Nice to meet you. I can still pedal through when I want to, but I prefer riding in heart rate Zone “mosey” because my legs and feet would get crampy at night when I’d ride at speed. I’ve found the speed and level of effort that allows me to enjoy riding without my foot twisting to the side at night.

  16. I’ll take a petite birthday ride Friday, followed by laundry, and drinking tea. Special Olympics State Games starts Friday evening with opening ceremony, but we’re going to dinner with relatives after the parade of teams instead of staying at the ceremony for bbq. Saturday we have bocce competition in the morning and a dance in the evening. Sunday we have unified volleyball competition.

  17. My Dad bought a Chevy Citation. We all piled in soon after and took a trip to my Grandparent's house in NJ. On the way back, the engine started running really rough and blew oil smoke out the exhaust. My Dad took it back in for warranty repairs. The dealer said the rings in one cylinder had gone bad, and not all the work would be covered under warranty, and that it might be expensive. Dad responded "It's not going to cost me a dime, because I don't own the car." Turns out the dealer put his plates on the car, but never transferred title and never registered the car in his name. The dealer really still owned the car. My Dad took the plates off, and walked out. He did come back, though, because the dealership asked him if he'd be interested in a different Citation. He bought it and that car was still going great when he sold it with over 100K miles on it.

  18. Wanted to know if I still owned the Kia Forte!!!! I told them yes, sort of, as it had been sitting on their lot for the last 7 months waiting for an engine, but if he wanted to look at, he could just walk out back to the service storage lot and that it only had 700 more miles on it than when we bought it last August. I might ask them what they would pay for it!

  29. Our son sent me a text last night that he reserved a spot on the truck to have his race bike shipped out to California and Oregon. We were thinking about racing Laguna last year but the plans fell through so I guess that we are going this year. Wo46 and I would be skipping the race in Oregon in exchange for a trip to Yellowstone. I'm playing around with a trip planner and looking at different touristy stops along the way like the Grand Canyon and things like that. So far it's around 5,000 miles. With shitty gas mileage of the motorhome pulling a trailer and with gas prices the way they are...... I think I should start a Go Fund Me account

He’s from here: https://xerces.org/endangered-species/species-profiles/at-risk-beetles/loopy-five-firefly “This firefly has been documented at only three sites—in southern Tennessee, northwest South Carolina, and northern Georgia.” The northern Georgia one is Springwood.
