  3. The viewing for my Uncle was yesterday evening, his service today. I went to the viewing which was in the same chapel my moms service was in. It was the first time I had been in there since her service 9 years ago. It didn’t really hit me until we left and I turned around to leave. Being the only one comfortable with public speaking in my family I was the MC of her service so the perspective was backwards during the viewing but it hit me when we left. I just stopped in the isle and took it in for a moment. Ugh, gonna be a tough day…

  6. Two of us rode out the Gros Ventre rd and up Gunsight Pass today. 50 miles, lots of climbing. Gunsight Pass is 9400 ft. We saw the work of some beavers, lots of elk, and pronghorn. Temps were in the 30sF. It snowed for part of the day. It is a beautiful place to ride. The road is still gated so we only saw a few cars.

  13. I swear I had MONEY typed in and ready to go for my second guess, but then I thought of NOVEL and felt it was a better Wordle word, so I went with that. Another attempt to guess what the Wordle word selector is thinking bit me in the ass, once again.

  19. We rode the Tour de Madison. A ride through Madison County VA to promote tourism and local businesses. Located in Central VA on the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Madison County is mostly rural. The routes (66, 42, and 25 miles) are on back roads riding past houses, farms, and fields. The ride begins and ends at the Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria VA. I know members of the Graves family, they lived near us when I was a teenager. Mike, Paul, and I drove down together; it's not quite an hour south of me. We arrived a little after 7 and parked next to a Volvo with personalized tags, "MAMIL". If you don't know the meaning, use the Googler. We met the couple, he said that my bike wins the cleanest drivetrain award. I didn't know there was one. I told him I liked his plate. We checked in and took off on the route by 7:30. We were riding the 42 mile route with 2,200 feet of climbing. Not a lot, but enough to keep you working. The temps were perfect at the start, a little over 70 F with a light breeze. A beautiful route, if you have the opportunity, I recommend you ride this. The people are nice. At the rest stops (two), I thanked the people who were there. They're volunteers and should be recognized for getting out there to support us sweaty riders. I was drinking enough water but still cramped my quads on one tough climb. As the day wore on the temps rose. At the end (11:20), it had reached 92 F. We changed and grabbed some lunch that was available, minced pork bbq, sides, and soft drinks. The MAMIL couple that we met had lost their car keys somewhere on the route. We hoped they were found at a rest stop and returned. Drove to a local brewery to support local business and enjoyed a few beers.

  24. Church is at 10. Leaving for the bagel shop in a few, then get my Mom at assisted living at 9:15. Should be there with 15 minutes to spare. BuffCarla is meeting us there, and the 3 of us are going to a Chinese Restaurant for lunch and I’ll drive Mom back, while BuffCarla goes to visit her mom.

  27. I have totally different memories than some of you relative to the LF. I was not at all bothered by changes in format, and as here and other places I simply ignore those folks that bother me, just like changing channels or turning off the tv or radio. Life is too short to be bothered by such inconveniences. Then there is the feelings toward the moderator. I had no problems with him, in fact he provided me immense help in developing a web page for our Section in the Society for Range Management. I have not shared this information before, and am only doing it now, as I get tired of folks bad mouthing him. I may have never moved to this forum, except they shut the LF down. I enjoy being here but tire of the LF forum bashing. You might ask yourself what purpose does the bashing serve! That is enough for now.

  28. Found a bone-in pork shoulder (5.7 lbs) on sale for $0.99/lb. Treated that with some homemade dry rub and built a charcoal faar and cut some hickory into chunks. Made a sop with vinegar, water, dry rub, and chile peppers. Mopped with sop at one hour. Three hours to go.

  29. I got the lawn mowed and hardened-off garden plants for a couple hours. The temperature wasn't that bad, but each step outside through a soupy atmosphere felt like swimming. The rest of the week looks fantastic and I want to get the yardwork done and most of the garden planted before we swoon in June.

  30. So many things affect a ride or any fitness event. Maybe it is fitness, maybe it was wind, bad attitude, just didn't feel it, poor sleep the night before, hydration. I often do the same ride. Some days it kills me, some days I enjoy it, some I ride it as hard as I can as if it were a race. You got out there and did something, more than many did.

  40. 40 miles at 17.1 average speed. Just a nice steady pace with Jose. And a stop for tacos 🌮 on the way back. Actually 3 miles before the end of the ride where we stop for tacos making the last stretch a little rough 😅.

  41. 42 miles, 2100 feet of climbing. 2:49. It was 70F when we started at 7:30 and 92 at 11:30 when we finished. Scenery was lovely, all rolling farms and fields. Finished with a BBQ pork lunch with sides and drinks. Beer for sale but I only saw Michelob Ultra and I’m not paying $7 for that. We drove to Bald Top brewing nearby for real beer. I had a wheat beer and an ESB. Both very good.
