  1. I attended a meeting today on a new product we are thinking of issuing. The lady from training was there setting up. I arrive early because if you’re on time, you’re late. A few more people show up. She is in the front row and setting up a Zoom meeting for people to join remotely. She’s having trouble getting hep computer hooked up and bent over to check the connections. Her short skirt, which had been showing a lot of leg, suddenly showed a lot more leg. I looked away before I saw too much; don’t want to be the dirty old man in the room. That was my cardio for the day, heart rate got up to zone 2

  4. That's actually pretty impressive. I've never seen anyone calculate escalators per capita out to nine decimal places before. Math is the best!

  7. I would suggest marking this as the solution. A bike headlight would work well for this. Make a lot a noise opening the scuttle hatch so you don't find yourself face to face with a surprised and angry wild animal. Even if you can't see all the way over to the holes, you can scan around the area you can see and look for animal signs or look at the roof structure for anything that's out of place. This might be possible. If the vent box is mounted on rails that nail into the neighboring trusses you might not be able to remove it from below. You might be able to pull down the recessed light fixture, move aside the insulation, and use a mirror to look about. This is a very good idea, especially if you're looking across the attic from the scuttle hole. Once you see the broom handle you can check the neighboring trusses to see if they look different than the other ones. Roof trusses are designed with significant safety factors. If one has cracked or split, the tension or pressure has relieved to the point where the truss can now handle what load is left and the neighboring trusses have picked up the load the first truss shed, They are probably loaded past their original design point, but not past the safety factors. A collapse would be caused by a series of cascading failures, meaning many trusses were loaded past their ultimate load points. Not impossible but extremely unlikely. That may not be entirely comforting, but that's the reality of it. I would suggest if you hear more popping and/or see more holes it would be wise to leave. The popping noise indicates to me that something was under tension or compression and let go. The first hole appears to have a straight lines (black lines) that looks like it follows a sheetrock joint, which means it's likely under a truss: The hole seems to protrude more from the ceiling along the direction of the arrow, as evidenced by the cracks on either side getting larger and longer as you move in the direction of arrow. For this hole I'm going to guess the truss runs in the direction of the cracks, and would suggest that a splice plate in truss has come loose under tension, and the ends of the lumber have come apart with one end bowing down to create the crack and hole. I've exaggerated in the picture below it illustrate the point: The bottom chord is typically under tension, so for it to fail in a compression manner would be unusual. It might be possible the splice let go and the downward force from a web pushed the chord through the ceiling. The second hole is a bit more difficult to pose a cause. It appears to be almost circular from the picture. One would expect that whatever made the hole would remain visible in the hole afterwards. My best guess on this one is a web or splice on a nearby truss failed and the web punched the hole, and when the tension was relieved the truss and web returned to a more normal position. I would suggest looking in and around that hole to see if you can find what made it. There is one last possibility I'm reluctant to suggest... It may be remotely possible that someone has accessed the attic spaces between the units (assuming they share a common roof) by cutting a hole through the firewalls, and may be looking to access the different residences through the scuttle hatches. If you poke your head up in the attic space and see insulation that's been compressed in some areas but not others - especially along a path, and especially near the holes - then this might be a possibility. If you're concerned that this might be the case, then screw a piece of plywood across the hatch or secure it from the inside so it can't be lifted. That's a whole boatload of conjecture based upon one photo of a couple holes (or three holes, depending on your view ) so I would also suggest I could be all wet on all of this. Those are my best guesses, and being free advice those guesses are worth every bit of what they cost.

  8. 27.5 miles with WoJSTL the Schwinn Twinn Tandem. Hot morning. Had a strange flat tire about 5 miles from the end. The leak was next to the rim tape but couldn't find anything wrong there. It was near a seam in the tube so it might just have been defective.

If I didn't know the interviewer (but it's an internal job), I'd send an email today or tomorrow thanking them for their time and letting them know I enjoyed talking with them and am excited about the possible opportunity.

  16. 12 miles after dinner. Winds out of the southeast, a little unusual; nice to sort of have the wind at my back on the second half of the ride instead of the first. OK, it was a shorter ride on a pretty flat route, but I was still happy with my 15.7mph avg speed.... I think that's my fastest this year. Weather for Saturday looks perfect, sunny and mid-70s.... looking forward to a long ride. 324 YTD

  22. Same company. Still a dialysis nurse. This would be with a home unit. Basically teaching people how to perform dialysis on themselves at home and monitoring them once they transition to home. More autonomy. Same pay (I think). More normal 8-4 type hours. No weekends or holidays. No more working 4th of July,. Memorial day, Labor day, etc. No more getting up at 4 am every morning. More flexibility as far as working from home on occasion, being able to set days off and work around softball/camping. Great small group of girls that work there now. The director is a nurse that I trained as a new grad years ago in the ER. I feel like it is just a win/win all the way around and I am fairly certain the job is mine just waiting to make everything official.

  23. I'm going to a dog agility event this weekend. I will be just like @Airehead except that she has dogs, enters the event and knows what she's doing, I'll wander around, look at cute doggies and probably look for snacks. But except for that I'll be just like her!

  24. This is a trip. Been riding together since 2005 (?). He lives here in Cali while his family lives in AZ. A new house back then. He works here, sends all his money to his unemployed wife and lives in his BILs garage. 17 years, don't know how or why he does it. Only sees his wife once every month or two. I would think he could find a warehouse job in AZ within the last 17 years. So all this time during covid, no problem. Masked rides, masked work, he was always worried about getting sick. So he started talking about his work slowing and rumors of lay offs over the last month. So he gets notice 2 days before they let him go but not yet sure if it's permanent till the end of the week. He's sitting by the phone waiting for an update by the end of the week. But go figure. He's been off for over a week now. No coworkers, sitting in his garage waiting for a call then comes up with covid. Well, Hope he doesn't get too sick. He and I were riding together just about every weekend the last few months, our taco rides. Haven't for a couple weeks though. His plan is to go live with his family in AZ as soon as he gets his call. But now getting covid, he says he's going home now. I hope he recovers. That would be something. Meet a friend then something like a lay off gets between but rather than go home, he dies. Pretty sure he won't but it's a thought to worry over.

  37. 15.25 miles. We are on Orcas Island & took the ferry (free for bikes) to Lopez Island. Not much open on Lopez midweek......even in Summer. One coffee shop, a couple small grocery stores & a little place to eat. We had a bite at Vita's. We are housesitting & found a couple bikes in the garage. Had them "tuned up". (aired up the tires & oiled the chain) We are both recovering from Covid so we didn't have a lot of stamina. The ferry returning to Orcas was about 45 mins late. we had a nice talk with a woman from Cool California. Outside Sacratomatoe.
