  1. Called me yesterday. The big dog in this area. "Parr8, we have done a market adjustment on your salary". "OK?" , I am thinking that they are cutting money because they are paying nurses too much. "Effective last paycheck you will see an additional 3.50 an hour on top of your base pay" Dang! Now I can almost afford to fill up to 3/4 of a tank instead of just half! Nothing I asked for, but I will damn sure take it!

  2. So my dogs can have a life of leisure. Apparently they did not like that one pillow. Einstein sent me this while I was in a meeting.

  6. I have previously posted that my paternal grandparents were old order Mennonites. You know, horse and buggy folks. Back in my childhood days, when we got actual winters, with snow on the roads and stuff, horses and buggies gave way to horses and cutters, or sleighs. When my grandpa died in 1974, my dad inherited his cutter, and he had big plans to make it into seasonal yard art, but that never happened. Might have had something to do with how he hoisted it into the rafters in the shed, and how much of a chore it would have been to pull it out and put it back every year. Well, now Dad is gone, and Mom is ready to sell the house, so it is time to de clutter (or de cutter in this case) . We put the call out to all the cousins to see if someone in the family would take it. My cousin's son said he has a place for it, so we are happy it will stay in the family. Anyway, the job today was to take it down from the rafters and put it on the ground, ready for them to come and pick it up. It was quite a big job, as Dad had built a storage crib under it that was full of wood scraps and other junk. So last time I was there, I tore out the crib, and made it ready to just pull out all the loose stuff so we could set the cutter down. I really don't know how my dad got it up there 48 years ago, but my youngest brother who was 10 at the time said he was there helping and all he remembers is that it involved ropes and pulleys. Well, we were a bit better equipped for setting it down. We used my 2 ton engine hoist, to which I bolted a transverse channel iron to the lifting beam. Once we had the weight off the wires suspending it, we just cut the wires and lowered it with the hoist. Once it was down to waist level, with one man on each corner, (me, my two brothers and a nephew,) we were able to carry it out and set it on the trailer.

  7. The more often I clean my glasses, the more often they need cleaning. It's like the schmaltz is attracted to the cleanliness.

  8. Look, here's something to put your mind at ease. The contact area of those brake pads is probably about four times as big as the contact area of your tires on the road. See? Doesn't that make you feel a lot better about the brake pads now?

  20. My dad hates flying. His buddy told him once that it is perfectly safe. You're strapped to two large containers of kerosene in something as thin as an aluminum can doing 700 mph with two huge fireballs on either side of you. What could go wrong?

  26. We are planning to attend Blaine’s 4th of July waterfront fireworks show in my home state. Small town on the border that puts on a heckuva show over Drayton Harbor. The Canadians will come down to watch it also . Folks from from the area just walk into town with their lawn chairs. Very well behaved and no drunks We plan on attending a couple other parties over the weekend -- including a salmon bake.

  28. My Canada Day today!..was bright brilliant blue sky, not much wind. In celebration..just before Calgary Stampede. The curved building far in distance above sign, Saddledome. Kinda aging and one day to be torn down. Last photo gallery art was put up by the city....this cylindrical foot-bike bridge does get damaged occasionally. It is a reminder-warning... I thought it was clever, arresting signage that didn't take much effort nor cost by city, but to educate many locals this holiday. I am grateful to be here in my country. Always. My perspective is profoundly affected because I know what my family could have been if they stayed in China...they wouldn't have had the opportunities like my generation and younger generations onward. We became stronger and more flexible as individuals ....at least my extended family here, not elsewhere in the world. Cycled 46km. Did grocery shopping, ate dim sum. Then later coffee and strawberry raspberry cake bread. The park pathway photo is on the northern edge of the city..approx. 8 km. from airport.
