I didn’t really share too much here about who I worked for but it’s a direct lender and with the rise in interest rates we are tanking hard. I had been pushing the button terminating access on hundreds of people who were being laid off a day for weeks. Well Friday I was advised that I’ll be gone too as my position is being eliminated. Friday the 5th is my last day and will get 12 weeks severance with my benefits being paid for the same 12 weeks. My boss said that two Executives really went to bat for me but ultimately lost the battle. What they were able to do is max my severance out as my position doesn’t warrant 12 weeks, it should have been a month to 6 weeks. So on to the next adventure. I already reached out to some industry friends and have a call lined up for Monday. We’ll see how it goes. I had said before that I hoped to ride this job out to retirement but I also knew the volatility of the industry would likely result in my leaving at some point. We’ll now is the time.

Much to my surprise, I scanned my ticket and I was a winner. I’ll be spending my $4 today.

Phew! Barely survived a two letter role a dope.

Looks like a lot of people got a brain cramp on this one. Not me for once.

4/6. Tried to outsmart the Wordle. Thought of cramp on guess three, then thought crawl was more likely.

My not wild sister invited my wild sister and me to a restaurant for lunch last year. It's a restaurant that I saw each time I drove to my parents' house, but I never stopped there, but was always sort of interested. So we went, and the restaurant was closed that week. So a few months later, ,my wild sister suggests meeting there for lunch. She checks the time online and we all meet there. Only she got the time wrong and looked at the opening time for weekdays, not Saturday. Turns out the restaurant didn't open until 3 hours later. Not wild sister invited us again for early dinner/late lunch tomorrow. I checked the website and called the restaurant, although I just got a recording with their hours. I feel like Charley Brown, oddly confident that Lucy will hold the football this time, although my prior experience shouldn't give me much confidence.

I may grill them as kabobs.

All the comments slammed this guy for being so judgmental. Someone else posted the “new rules” I like the new rules much better than the old rules. They were stupid.

Luckily for us the V.A. Let’s you continue to keep your health insurance at the same payment you would pay if you were still working.

It helps to have hobbies.

We won $4 as well. My wife didn’t say how many tickets she bought, so I suppose we probably lost money on the adventure.

At 8am...before it gets hot! I plan to start picking up my exercise..walking and weight workouts..and some possible bike rides with a friend.

7/30/29 40 miles with my son this morning

41 easy miles at 16.5 average speed. Nice smooth ride with Jose. Backed off the pace seeing he hasn't been on his bike for a month since moving to AZ. He's just visiting this week to pick up his things so he wanted to sneak in a ride. Maybe next week too as he's heading back Monday. So we did a 🌮 ride.

Yay, the restaurant was open and I finally got to eat there. The food was yummy, but the outdoor area was particularly lovely - shaded and pretty. My not wild sister was disappointed because she loved their zeppoles and they were no longer on the menu. But they were nice enough to make a tray of them for us anyway (their website said if you want something not on the menu, just ask and they'd make it if they have the ingredients).

Retirement is awesome. I haven't been bored one bit. I've picked up a few old hobbies; done some long-term projects; read more books; ridden my bike a lot more; and have traveled a bit. I have done a few small jobs more as a favor for some of my old consulting customers.

I had seent his video before. Phil is great. I love where he talks about waving to other cyclists, included "kids on fixes, homeless people..." and then at the end adds "even triathletes"

Was cruising the neighborhood and found this half done shed. No one was around so I tossed all the parts in the back of my truck. The guy was kind enough to leave a dolly for me. Some parts were screwed together, but it only took a few minutes just to fold everything up. I hope to get a hundred or so for this scrap. Bonus, I got a sweet dolly and a few rakes. Plus, a comfy chair.

11.5 on the MTB. I installed the piece @dinneR recommended. It works! The biggest cog isn’t available and cross-chaining is more noticeable. I only had time for a short ride before the haboob rolled in. It caught me in the last mile!

Also received my birthday present from my wife today. She ordered a couple of weeks ago. Anyone up for a little Brazilian barbecue? It it looks like the house of UB is not only turning into a pizzaria but a charoscaria as well. .

I saw a science documentary where they use an advanced microwave thingie to make tea, but the only kind you could get was Earl Grey, and hot.
