  1. Compliments of my wife this morning.

  2. Mom of 7 fell in the bathroom this morning and hit her head. She seemed more out of sorts than normal so they sent her to the ER. X-rays were taken and she has a cervical collar on and doesn’t like it. Blood work has been ordered but not drawn yet. She doesn’t remember that she broke a rib last month and that is why her side hurts. I told her, “ you have CRS”. She said, “what’s CRS?” “Can’t remember shit”. She did smile though. She will be moving to a memory care place soon. Either in the same building or to where my sister is at.

  3. Wade put new taars on his Tahoe yesterday. He is 19 and wants a cool looking truck, so he went with a semi aggressive all terrain tire. Looks damn good, and I bit my tongue and did not get on him about mileage and wear and road noise. He can learn about that when his is old and grumpy. It was cool to see how proud he was of the tires.

  4. So I went to Road America for the day. It's something about watching vintage cars and motorcycle racing that I like. It's funny to see a car racing with the same tires that you have on your sidecar. The guy who owned this was a factory superbike racer in the 70s and still has the superbike my favorite car of the day

  5. The pandemic was just the push I needed to do what I should have done long ago. I used to enjoy going to the gym, but more and more, I find it an exercise in frustration. Mostly, the frustration stems from inconsiderate slobs who can't be bothered to put weight back where they belong, can't seem to bring themselves to wipe down benches and machines when they're done, and park themselves on machines between sets with ear buds plugged into their heads so they can conveniently ignore anyone who might ask to work in. Anyway, my wife and I had the discussion about investing in a home gym,

  8. Just to update... I made it home just fine. I was working in an area that was very close to a bridge, it's a section of downtown that is well west of the main area of downtown. There was not much going on where I was at. I am scheduled there again tomorrow. I painted the legs of my table, helped Griffin cook dinner and helped Emmy do her pitching drills outside. And I tried to explain to them what was going on with the people on the TV. Then I slept about 9 hours last night. It was glorious.

  11. Sometimes when we go for rides in the Miata, we pick a direction and drive for a few hours until we get lost. Then we look for a place to eat, and zig zag home. Today we headed west, found a park to let Maggie explore for a while, then continued west on roads we'd never been before. Somehow we wound up in one of our favorite towns, New Glarus. So we had lunch, tried a locally produced cream soda (it was good) walked around town for a bit, and Mags got to play with her new fluffy friend named Rascal while we had ice cream. Maggie was sad when it was time to go home.

  12. I married this wonderful woman. We have both been putting in some rough hours at work so we went to dinner, then the martini bar for a drink. Took a selfie there. We both had to work today so were home by a little after 9.

  14. ...if it makes you feel any better, the first two flights of Sandhill cranes flew over my house today. They come every year to winter over and nest down in the river sloughs and flooded fields south of me. They've been doing this a very long time.

  15. When I was a kid, one next door neighbor rented out their house and several families were living in it. They had numerous cars & felt the street in front of their house was their parking so would yell at my oldest brother not to park there. My brother repeatedly told them to F’ off. Well one night somebody broke into his car, put in in neutral, released the brake and pushed it down the street. My brother was pissed but never said a word about revenge. However a few nights later someone punctured all 4 tires on every one of their cars. Someone also shimmied up the power li

  16. On one of the routes Lucy and I take on our walk, we pass a house that displays international flags with a little sign saying where it is from. He changes them out once a week or so and Lucy and I enjoy seeing all the flags of the world. He was out in his yard today when we walked past. I took the opportunity to let him know how much I enjoy his flags. Apparently vexillophiles are an enthusiastic bunch because my friendly little comment opened a can of worms. He started telling all about the flag he had displayed today (Bavaria). Apparently Bavaria has two flags that are of equal s

  21. In honor of our anniversary, I went searching for one of my favorite threads. I searched for all the "story of" threads and it made me happy to see how many "story" threads were posted by other people. But this one is probably my favorite - it combines family, the Catskills and it even is cycling related. And this is to make the post more festive for the anniversary party:

  31. 30 miles with my friend. We started at the Redondo Harbor & rode the strand along the coast passing Marina Del Ray, Venice Beach and turning around at the Santa Monica Pier. I live in Orange County so this was way out of my way for me but my friend really wanted to do it. It was fun though.

  36. I laugh when I read about people being concerned about road noise. Hell, just turn up the radio. If it gets too quiet, I get sleepy. Just curious, did you ever drive or ride in a car that had holes in the floor board? That is when you notice road noise, as well as drafts.

  37. Yes it was. The project was a success, and we took it out on four camping adventures this summer. I've been too busy, (or maybe just too lazy) to do any updates, but I will post some photos later.

  38. When I looked up Carolina Dog on the webs, this post came up. squarewheelscycling.com/index.php?/topic/105256-what-is-a-carolina-dog/ Apparently the interwebs thinks that a bike forum that never talks about bikes is the place to seek wisdom.

  39. The people in the house that the parole visited are a little loony. This is the house across the street. I guess her kids are criminals and thieves. This would explain why parole was seen at that house. Luckily there is probably 3+ acres between us and that neighbor There was an armed standoff about 2 blocks away where some guy killed someone's dog, shot another person and barricaded himself in the house. She said everyone else is pretty good. She told me that the county will not maintain our road, even though it is on our taxes. Her dog is a beagle. The lady has a new 4
