I read that article and the, "here's what happened", part of the address wasn''t addressed. The article basically said, "Yup, everything went down." and didn't touch on the 'why'.
The cause was the same as usual, they pushed out an "update" to their systems that had not been properly tested, and it failed o function as intended.

There was a pickup towing a trailer carrying a pickup.
That is so you have a spare, just in case.

OK, it looks like the inside door handle on your car does not have a through opening. However, my idea might sill work, if you attached a cord to one of these:

For best durability, attaching the cord to the metal part the slide into the window opening would be preferred.

Can you tie a strap to the inside door handle to assist?

That sign behind you, did you just climb a steep hill with a lot of rubble on it or is it a dirty sign?
It looks like it might have been a "Watch for fallen rocks" sign.

I recall an eclipse a number of years ago when I was at work and lots of people went outside on the patio. They had glasses for people and it was fun, but then we just went back to our desks.
I have mine from the last eclipse in my area. It was a 45 mile drive to get to 1/2 mile off the center line of the trajectory. The local farmers out running there equipment didn't even stop, they just turned on the lights and kept going.

If you remove the drive from the USB case and interface, you may be able to get it to work om the PC's SATA connection.
