  1. We live in a subdivision. 2.5 blocks away is 2-5 acre lots w/houses. Beyond that is "country". Last week we heard the coyotes howling. It sounded close like out in the farm land. In the spring/summer they come in to the subdivision. Our last walk is about 11:00 pm. The coyotes sound like they are a block over. The dogs alert & the big dog (who is anxious) wants to go home....now. The little one would want to fight them
  2. February is San Diego with friends. We were going to go to Vegas...but looked after we booked flights & realized it was Super Bowl weekend. This weekend we are headed to another island in Washington to check out houses for sarah. She has given up on her Orcas Island property. Her building permit has still not been issued...going on 10 months. Plus the contractor price has shot up to exorbitant The big trip is Italy. Flying into/out Amsterdam. Instead of doing a marathon flight from portland to AMS & then to Italy we are going to stay in Amsterdam for a few days on each end. Total time will be almost 5 weeks. Looking to mostly stay in Tuscany. Probably stay at an agriturismo. And leave like 7 days open...no plans or reservations
  3. Granpa & his grandaughter? Judging by the rings she has won a couple Super Bowls
  4. Haven't had MS for years. all Google all the time. If I'm not on my home laptop I can pull up my files off anything I have...my phone, Sarah's phone, her laptop etc I know the big G is like MS but it sure is handy & no subscription based model

    This is us

Anybody watch this? We started it a month ago & it's really good. A couple have triplets. One passes during birth & another baby is in the nursery after being left at a fire station. Very moving stories told thoughtfully without a laugh track. One episode we watched recently had one of the kids having a miscarriage. Brought me to tears thinking about WoScrapr 2 miscarriages. Not many series can do that Highly reco https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5555260/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
  6. WoScrapr had to have cable. So for a few years we did her cable & I had Sling to watch Pac 12 (RIP) sports. After she passed I cut the cord & just did streaming. It's almost 5 years & I think I saved almost $9k. I still have Sling & a couple other $7.99/mo add ons. I pare them back & then something comes on we want to watch & I add it back. Our cable was spensive
  7. same...plus a vitamin D
  8. I just head straight for the back 40 unless I see one as I'm going in. I'm headed there today. There was a recall on some antipasto that we've eaten about 2/3's. I haven't been out of the 'hood for like 4 days. We had about an inch of sleet that froze up. Then after the warm turned on we almost always get freezing rain. Now we have a slow thaw with temps about 34 degrees. I'm using micro spikes to walk the dogs. Working great

    $50 Haircut?

The lovely Sara with an h does it for nothing in the garage or outside. I throw $20 in the travel jar.She does a great job on my hair & neck shave. Before trips or special occasions I get a haircut & hot towel shave. That runs right at $100 with tip but it's a nice treat. I think I found my new barber on my last shave & haircut. My regular (5 years) started phoning it in. Just going through the motions. The new guy lays on the hot towels. Nice & relaxing
  10. We used to live on a hill. It was about 2 blocks long and about 15% grade. During ice and snow events much hilarity ensued. The community mailbox was hit several times. A few times cars that were parked on the street. WoScrapr and neighbor would get on the phone and do PbP. Of course it was the 'hood sledding hill. Until the gravel truck made a run. After we moved the city just closes the street now
  11. I have tried Chat GPT & the Google AI bot on out trip to Tuscany this Fall. Pretty worthless IMO. I did a few (5-6) iterations & it was just resulting in very generic advice. Stay Florence 4 nights....see Duomo, Ponte Vechio & Abe Lincoln's tomb. Drive 1 hour to Siena...rinse & repeat Not much help yet
  12. @Parr8hed We have lots & lots of power outages here in Portland. Some 60-90 mph winds.Sounds like freezing rain coming in tommorah. I was wondering if lineman have special heated gloves or other protective equipment to be out long hours. Doesn't seem productive to work 10 minutes on a bucket lift & then have to sit in the truck for an hour. Does G mention anything about that?
  13. Yesterday i think this tree fell across one of the main roads to Bend. One of the locals had a chainsaw in the back of the truck. the hero badass we need. Notice the short sleeves in 20 degree weather Portland is gearing for some stuff. 16 degrees & 50(!) mph winds. Snow & ice coming in the morning
  14. $1k/day x 50 weeks = @250k. So Ryan gets 2 weeks vacation without pay???? Ain't fair! He should form a union
  15. splain this to me in very small words....I wanted to see how cold -43 C is in Farenheit. I plugged -43 C into it & it says -45 F but if I plug in 20 C it becomes 68 F wtf
  16. On NYE I used channel locks to open a bottle of champagne. Just to get the cork started. then twisty twisty & it was oot
  17. Friend of mine is in a Tom Petty tribute band. They are really good. They have won awards in LA & Vegas. I've heard them once and want to see them again.
  18. Yes....I'm unlikely to switch as both bikes are "good enough" for me & my age. It would be fun to try disc brakes but ultimately not that important to me
  19. We went out to a boutique movie theater and saw Boys in the Boat. Had an impossible burger delivered to my seat. It was decent. On a cibatta bun so that helped. Theater was downtown. Portland seemed like it was back like the old days (pre pandemic) We noticed a lot more traffic as we got downtown. The Christmas lights made it festive and lots of folks out Went out to a warm car as I started it from the theater. Back story...I let the subscription lapse because it was a bit expensive. But Sarah with an H gifted it to me for Christmas. She missed having a warm car Got home and opened a bottle of Vevue Clique champagne and c watched TV for the ball drop. We went to OTA TV and found Paul Anka???? singing. WTF. We gave Stella the chiweenie a doggie downer for midnight fireworks as the noise really bothers her. The Odin the Golden started acting strange. The noise was mostly over and she was crying and walking over and looking at us. She really doesn't do this. We go downstairs and she hopped up on the bed. We were about 2 hours past our bedtime. She wanted to go to bed. So we did A good NYE But now it's time for college football!
  20. I believe she was a mail order bride....as they said BITD
  21. and gave him some sugar on the way out the door
  22. I only online dated for a few months. Maybe a half dozen dates (mostly coffee dates) Met Sara with an H and I was done. We just hit it off right off the bat. I was messaging a couple others and texted them I wanted to see where this goes. Only a couple of "bad" dates. The last one before Sarah was a mess...had moved in w/her daughter, unemployed (Covid) and poor prospects for a new one.....
  23. We had Christmas Day dinner at good friends. The host did Prime rib & ham & turkey. We were in charge of scalloped potato(e)s. Everybody else brought homemade sides. Don't tell anyone...but we went to Costco & bought the premade, heated them up & slid them into a nice (Spode) dish. It worked! Lots of compliments...and one request for the recipe.....ooopppsie. Should I drop the dime on Sara with an H? Or take the fall myself? Or just forward a bogus recipe?
  24. yeppers. All the tables/grills were full & the lobby was full of waiting patrons.
