Scrapr's post in Now that we know all the places we don't want to travel... was marked as the answer
Yes...I'm glad you asked. We had vouchers from a previous trip. Virgin Atlantic was overbooked flying out of SFO. We could get a refund, stop in ATL on the way to London....or fly direct out of LAX and get 2 vouchers for RT anywhere VA flies. We were in Sacratomato area so booked a morning flight to LAX & took the vouchers. We called 330 days before our travel dates & had our pick of days & times. Easy peasy. On the front end of that trip is a few days at a lake in Minnesota. We'll be gone 5 weeks. Anyone want to dog sit?
The trip is a bit of family history trip. We got canceled out of an Ireland tour so rebooked that. We are going to Dingle! after the tour we are going to spend a few days going to Sarah's family area. She has researched & found her family farm. I am thinking about proposing there
Then we are going to Scotland. My grandpa did some tapes talking about his life. On the first tape he descibes the town (Slamannan) & where the house sits. I hunted around & found what i think is the house. It's an Air BnB! So I want to stay there. Probably tour around Glasgow a bit.
We have 10-14 days after that. So maybe some more England. I know Sarah would not be disappointed to go to the Cotswalds. And I must go to Paris. And we have more to see in London

We really liked the smaller estate out in the "Back 40".
The guided tour groups were ok except when 1 leader takes his group to a doorway & starts yammering. He was literally in the doorway. I started through the group saying pardon moi, pardon moi. In one small room there was 5 different tours talking along with us peasants. At least a few of the cruise ship groups. When it was a bigger space like the Hall of mirrors it was better. But the anterooms & vestibules? Oiy veh. We picked up the audioguide things and it did give more interesting info. That's about enough for me. I spent some time in the Napolean rooms. One room had paintings of him covering all 4 walls.
